So, you’ve seen every film in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise – but have you seen every episode of the anthology TV series Freddy’s Nightmares? Night of the Living Tapes author Geoff Turner, filmmaker Henrique Couto, and Couto’s frequent collaborator David Denoyer have, and now they’ve put together a book called Welcome to Primetime: The Unofficial Freddy’s Nightmare Companion! Copies are available for pre-order through Death Cult Press and are expected to ship out the week of April 1st.

Freddy’s Nightmares ran for two seasons, from 1988 to 1990, with a total of 44 episodes. Robert Englund appeared in full Freddy Krueger mode in every episode of the show, in which Freddy, the dream serial killer, hosts an anthology of stories set in Springwood.

Directors who contributed to Freddy’s Nightmares include Tobe Hooper, Mick Garris, Tom McLoughlin, Ken Wiederhorn, William Malone, Gilbert Adler, and Dwight H. Little, and one of the most notable cast members to show up along the way was Brad Pitt, earning one of his earliest screen credits. Hooper directed the pilot episode, No More Mr. Nice Guy, which serves as a prequel to the Elm Street film series.

As for Welcome to Primetime, the companion book features breakdowns of each episode in the series, interviews with the show’s creators and a selected history of the bizarre world of horror anthology television.

At the Death Cult Press website, there are three different Welcome to Primetime bundles up for pre-order. Every bundle features both a print version of the book (signed by the authors) and a digital version. Other items in the bundles include an exclusive bookmark, vintage ad sticker, a button set, and a replica Elm Street sign. So head over there and make your choice!

I have fond memories of watching this show as a very young kid, back when it was first airing. I definitely didn’t see all 44 episodes then, though, and I haven’t caught up with all of them in the decades since, so I should fill in the Freddy’s Nightmares gap in my Freddy knowledge.

Filmmaker Edward Zwick, whose credits include About Last Night, Glory, Legends of the Fall, The Siege, The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond, Defiance, Love & Other Drugs, Pawn Sacrifice, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (not to mention co-creating Thirtysomething), recently published a memoir called Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood (pick up a copy HERE). This book contains some very interesting passages – like the one on Zwick’s Jack Reacher regrets, and another where he reveals how impressed Denzel Washington was by Matt Damon’s performance when they were on the set of Zwick’s 1996 film Courage Under Fire.

Zwick wrote, “As we finished Matt’s coverage, Denzel caught my eye and nodded approvingly. Later, he took me aside. ‘Who is that kid?’ he asked. I told him it was Matt’s first big role. ‘Damn,’ he said. ‘Better get my game on. He almost blew me off the screen.’

Matt wanted to physicalize the ravages of his character’s (drug) addiction in the final scenes and went back to L.A. to lose weight. He returned, having lost so much so quickly – unsupervised – that I was worried he might not make it through filming. I knew it was a big moment in Matt’s career, but was it worth him jeopardizing his health? Watching him was terrifying, but also inspiring. His performance was wonderful, and his career took off. A great actor is an athlete of the heart.

Directed by Zwick from a screenplay by Patrick Sheane Duncan, Courage Under Fire has the following synopsis: During the 1991 Gulf War, Lieutenant Colonel Nathaniel Serling (Denzel Washington) accidentally caused a friendly fire incident, a mistake that was hushed up by his superiors. Following the war, he is assigned to investigate the case of Army Captain Karen Walden (Meg Ryan), killed in action when her Medevac unit was attempting to rescue the crew of a downed helicopter. But, as Serling interviews the members of Walden’s crew, he realizes their stories about the incident don’t add up.

Washington and Damon were joined in the cast by Lou Diamond Phillips, Bronson Pinchot, Seth Gilliam, Regina Taylor, Michael Moriarty, Željko Ivanek, Scott Glenn, Sean Astin, Sean Patrick Thomas, and, as mentioned in the synopsis, Meg Ryan.

Shamy fans rejoice! Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik will reprise their roles from The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon Lee Cooper, and Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler, respectively, for the series finale of the Young Sheldon prequel series! Think again if we can share details about the couple’s reunion! The powers that be are keeping that business under wraps. Will they feature in a time skip? Does Young Sheldon (Iain Armitage) invent a time machine? The mystery remains.

The couple last appeared in the May 2019 series finale of The Big Bang Theory, which included a surprisingly emotional moment of self-reflection by Parsons’ Sheldon Cooper during a Nobel Prize acceptance speech. While Young Sheldon is beloved by Big Bang Theory fans, a reunion with Sheldon and Amy will surely gain significant attention for the forthcoming finale.

Iain Armitage stars in Young Sheldon as an adolescent version of Sheldon Lee Cooper, the neurotic genius who became the spokes-character of The Big Bang TheoryYoung Sheldon focuses on the child prodigy’s ’80s and ’90s upbringing in East Texas. Parsons narrated for the Young Sheldon series and brought the prequel spin-off to Big Bang producers before the show’s launch.

Young Sheldon‘s seventh and final season is currently on the air, with a back-to-back episode finale scheduled for May 16.

While Young Sheldon ends this May, a spin-off series centered on Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) is coming to CBS. The untitled spin-off finds Georgie and Mandy “navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting, and marriage.”

“From The Big Bang Theory to Young Sheldon the world of the Cooper family has been incredibly special to us. We’re very excited to continue their stories through the eyes of Georgie and Mandy,” said producers Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland in a joint statement.

Are you excited about Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik reprising their iconic Big Bang roles for the Young Sheldon series finale? Will you tune in for the Georgie and Mandy spin-off series? Will Big Bang be the series that keeps giving for years to come? More than it already has, I suppose. Let us know in the comments section below.
