The prophecy is how they enslave us – and one sick t-shirt might do the same, as Zendaya has turned up multiple times on the promotional circuit for Dune: Part Two in a tee that gives nod to David Lynch’s 1984 movie. With Zendaya going for this sort of low-key, casual look, she is also paying homage to the film that came before all of the success of Denis Villeneueve’s films.
Some Zendaya fans have noticed that the actress – who plays Chani in both Dune and Dune: Part Two – wore the same Dune shirt, which features Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides (a role taken over by Timothée Chalamet), on more than one promotional outing. It’s a nice touch from the star, especially since Lynch’s movie was an utter disappointment to fans of Frank Herbert’s series. We do have to wonder what David Lynch would think about this cross-promotion, as the director famously dislikes his attempt…
Zendaya has been the queen of fashion during the lead-up to Dune: Part Two, garnering attention for her cyborg-esque outfit that she donned at premiere.
Nearly every aspect of Dune: Part Two has been covered both leading up to and after its release. In the past few days alone – amid the film’s first full week since its March 1st release – we’ve seen it exceeding expectations at the box office, Villeneuve teasing the deleted scenes we’ll never get to see and a meeting between both generations of Feyd-Rautha, Sting and Austin Butler.
Dune: Part Two “[explores] the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.” As of publication, Dune: Part Two has taken in around $90 million domestically, with another $100 million worldwide, already making it the highest-grossing film of the year so far.
Are there any aspects of David Lynch’s Dune that you think surpass Denis Villeneueve’s films? If so, let us know in the comments below.
Sony‘s untitled Karate Kid film is ready to make Ben Wang‘s heart go pitter-pat after adding Cruel Summer actress Sadie Stanley to the cast. Stanley plays the romantic lead opposite Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) in the forthcoming marital arts drama, which also stars Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Fringe, D2: The Mighty Ducks), Jackie Chan (Rush Hour, Police Story, Drunken Master) and Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid, My Cousin Vinny, Cobra Kai).
Plot specifics remain a mystery, though we hear Sony will move the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds identity and strength in martial arts. During his journey of self-discovery, Wang’s character meets a disciplined martial arts master. With Chan and Macchio both appearing in the film, there’s a chance Wang’s character could train under two teachers. Jonathan Entwistle (I’m Not Okay With This, The End of the F***ing World)
Sadie Stanley made her mark on Hollywood as the title character of the live-action Kim Possible movie. After guest spots on shows like Coop and Cami Ask the World, Game Shakers, and the Christina Applegate and Lin Cardellini-led Netflix comedy Dead to Me, Stanley played Clancy in the family adventure comedy The Sleepover. Later, Stanly joined the cast of The Goldbergs as Brea Bee before moving on to a starring role in Freeform’s teen thriller series Cruel Summer.
Sony plans to release its untitled Karate Kid movie in theaters on December 13, meaning they’ll need to work fast to stay ahead of schedule. The Karate Kid franchise has grown by leaps and bounds since the mega-success of Netflix‘s Cobra Kai series. Cobra Kai continues exploring the rift between Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who establish rival dojos in their old stomping grounds. The overwhelmingly popular martial arts drama series concludes with Season 6, which is currently in production at Netflix. In addition to featuring various guest stars from the Karate Kid film series, Cobra Kai helped bolster the careers of young stars like Xolo Maridueña, Peyton List, and Tanner Buchanan.

Lionsgate and John Wick aficionado Chad Stahelski are taking their working relationship to the next level after the stuntman-turned-premiere filmmaker inked a multi-year producing deal with the studio focusing on action films. Per today’s official press release, the announcement comes just weeks after Stahelski signed on to direct a reimagination of the Highlander franchise as his next feature film while assuming creative oversight of the Highlander and John Wick franchises across film, television, and all multimedia platforms. The director and his team at 87Eleven Entertainment have taken the helm in designing a comprehensive multiplatform content strategy for both franchises.
“Chad and his team at 8711 Entertainment are profoundly talented filmmakers and creative collaborators,” said Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “They raise the bar of excellence on every project they take on, and we are looking to Chad to bring us the best new original action projects that we can work on together and turn into the next hits and franchises.”
Reacting to the deal, Stahelski said, “Lionsgate has been my home studio throughout my career as a feature director, so it only makes sense that I would base our film production business with the team that has been such extraordinary partners for so many years.”
Lionsgate knows who butters their bread, and Chad Stahelski makes plenty with projects like the billion-dollar film series John Wick. The latest installment of the John Wick franchise, John Wick Chapter 4, earned $440 million worldwide, with a 94% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The filmmaker’s next project in the John Wick universe is Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas as an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma, which will hit theaters next year under the direction of Len Wiseman.
When he’s not signing contracts, Chad Stahelski is working alongside Henry Cavill on the forthcoming Highlander reboot. The anticipated action film reimagines the 1986 classic starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown about an immortal Scottish swordsman who must confront the last of his immortal opponents, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled “Prize.”
