The Abadons, Lucas Till, Diana Silvers, Kurt Sutter, Netflix, series

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is going from the fictional town of Charming to the plains of Oregon for his next ambitious series, The Abandons. The forthcoming Netflix Western adds six cast members to its roster today, with Lucas Till (MacGyverMonster TrucksThe Collective), Diana Silvers (Space ForceMaBooksmart), Lamar Johnson (The Last of UsThe Hate U GiveBrother), Aisling Franciosi (The NightingaleThe Last Voyage of the DemeterThe Unforgivable), and Natalia del Riego (Promised LandNCIS: Los AngelesHail Mary).

Created and executive produced by Kurt Sutter, The Abdandons “follows a group of diverse, outlier families pursuing their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, as a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out. These abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back. In this bloody process, “justice” is stretched beyond the boundaries of the law.” (via Deadline)

Lucas Till plays Garret Van Ness, with Diana Silvers portraying Dahlia Teller. Nick Robinson steps into the role of Elias Teller, while Aisling Franciosi plays Trisha Van Ness, and Natalia del Riego plays Lilla Belle. The group joins previously announced series headliners Lena Heady and Gillian Anderson as Fiona Nolan and Constance Van Ness, respectively.

Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy dominated the TV space from 2008 to 2014 with seven seasons of hard-hitting drama and violence while following the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club (SAMCRO). The gritty series starred Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Mark Boone Junior, Kim Coates, Tommy Flanagan, Theo Rossi, Maggie Siff, Ryan Hurst, and more as bikers struggling to keep their club together while solving territorial disputes, drug trades, and family life. The show was a massive hit, putting Sutter on the map as a talent to watch.

In 2018, Sutter launched the Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans M.C. The series, starring JD Prado, Clayton Cardenas, and Sarah Bolger, ran from 2018 to 2023, marking another hit series for its creator. When Sutter brings a series to the airwaves, people tune in. The Abandons will investigate the line between survival and the law, with a family hoping to survive a harsh existence and opposition around every corner.

The Rock

The next time you go to tell someone to know their role and shut their mouth, you might want to think again, lest The Rock drops a legal People’s Elbow on you. That’s right, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson now owns the intellectual properties and trademarks for an extensive series of one-liners, quips, nicknames, and more. What do you think about th–It doesn’t matter what you think about that!

In new filings, it was revealed that TKO Group Holdings made the IPs and trademarks part of a deal that named The Rock a member of its board of directors. So, what’s included in that contract? Pretty much everything you would have ever associated with Dwayne Johnson’s in-ring persona, including monikers The Rock and Rocky Maivia, the name he made his 1996 debut under. There are also other names associated directly with the icon, such as The Brahma Bull, The People’s Champion and The Great One, not to mention the long-discarded The Blue Chipper. And who can forget his days with Team Corporate and The Nation, now also both under protection?

The Rock has also landed some of his all-time great insults, like Jabroni and Candy Ass, which, coupled with lines like “Finally, The Rock has come back to _____” and “If you smell what The Rock is cookin’” made him one of the greatest to ever work a mic.

Some might be surprised that it has taken this long for Dwayne Johnson to obtain rights to these, but then again, the WWE has long been protective of their properties, often forcing wrestlers who leave for another promotion to grab another in-ring name and gimmick. The most electrifying man in sports entertainment, The Rock has also been one of the most business-savvy pro wrestlers in history, so him taking over rights and trademarks is really just the latest of his endeavors. He announced last month that a Ric Flair biopic is in the works at his Seven Bucks Productions.

For some time, it looked like The Rock would be headlining Wrestlemania XL by taking on Roman Reigns. After fan backlash, the intended main event of Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes remained; but will The Rock turn on Reigns and set up an ultimate showdown? If so, that would make him Head of the Table, yet another trademark he could grab…
