Jessica Alba isn’t taking any prisoners this summer when her new action film, Trigger Warning, brings a violent revenge tale to Netflix on June 21, 2024. Today, Netflix shared a gallery of first-look images from the upcoming film, which features Alba as a Special Forces commando who finds herself pulled into a violent gang war when her father suddenly dies. The Trigger Warning images show Alba in action and some behind-the-scenes antics of the film’s production.
Mouly Surya (The City is a Battlefield) directs Trigger Warning from a script by John Brancato, Josh Olson, and Hailey Gross. Mark Webber (Flesh and Blood, Green Room), Tone Bell (The Flash, Whitney, Survival of the Thickest), Jake Weary (It Follows, Zombeavers, Fred: The Movie), Gabriel Basso (Super 8, The Kings of Summer, The Night Agent) and Anthony Michael Hall (The Dark Knight, Foxcatcher) star alongside Alba as primary cast members, with Kaiwi Lyman (Den of Thieves, American Violence) and Hari Dhillon (Bad Education, Entrapment) co-starring.
Here’s the official synopsis for Trigger Warning:
Special Forces commando Parker (Jessica Alba) is on active duty overseas when she gets called back to her hometown with the tragic news that her father has suddenly died. Now the owner of the family bar, Parker reconnects with her former boyfriend-turned-sheriff Jesse (Mark Webber), his hot-tempered brother Elvis (Jake Weary), and their powerful father Senator Swann (Anthony Michael Hall) as she looks to understand what actually happened to her dad.
Parker’s search for answers quickly goes south, and she soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown. Unsure of who she can truly trust, Parker draws on her commando training and proves herself a force to be reckoned with as she hunts down the truth and attempts to right what has gone wrong in Swann County with the help of her covert ops partner and hacker Spider (Tone Bell) and connected local dealer Mike (Gabriel Basso).

Several months ago, word leaked out that Maggie Gyllenhaal was set to write and direct a film called The Bride!, a new take on the concept of the 1935 classic The Bride of Frankenstein (watch it HERE). Once thought to be set up at the Netflix streaming service, this one is actually happening at Warner Bros., and the studio has set the film for a theatrical release, IMAX screens included, on October 3, 2025. Gyllenhaal has assembled a strong cast for the film that includes Penelope Cruz, Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, Julianne Hough, John Magaro, and Jeannie Berlin, with Jessie Buckley as The Bride and Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s Monster. Official images of the Bride and the Monster have been released before; in fact, those are what can be seen above this paragraph. But now Buckley and Bale have been spotted on set, in costume, and a “spy pic” image of them at work can be seen in the X embed at the bottom of this article.
The Bride! has the following synopsis: A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.
This isn’t a Universal project, but it wouldn’t be the first Bride of Frankenstein remake to be made by a different company. In 1985, Columbia Pictures brought us another movie simply called The Bride, which starred Sting as Baron Charles Frankenstein, Jennifer Beals as Eva (the bride) and Clancy Brown as Viktor (the monster). A few years ago, it was announced that Scarlett Johansson was going to star in a similar project called Bride for A24 and Apple, but that still hasn’t made it into production.

Earlier this month, we learned that Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde are teaming up to bring the comic book character Avengelyne, who was created by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, to the big screen. Wilde, who previously directed Booksmart and Don’t Worry Darling, will be directing the film, with Robbie producing through her company LuckyChap – and there’s a chance that she’ll end up playing the title character as well, although her reps were denying that at the time of the earlier report. Now Deadline has broken the news that the Avengelyne project has landed at Warner Bros., with the studio negotiating to close a seven figure film rights deal. It makes sense that WB wanted it, since they just had a $1.4 billion success with Robbie and LuckyChap’s Barbie.
Poor Things writer Tony McNamara is working on the screenplay, and according to Deadline, Robbie will decide whether or not to take on the role of Avengelyne once the script has been turned in. Robbie is producing the film alongside LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, as well as Genre’s Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon.
If you’re not familiar with the Avengelyne character, Deadline provides some information: Avengelyne is an angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. She was the most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost, having single-handedly broken into Pandemonium, the outer fortress of Hell, to confront the Devil himself. She is a fallen angel, banished from Heaven by God after being tricked into questioning his love for humans. Avengelyne was stripped of all her angelic abilities, other than her great strength and her blood, which, once extracted from her body, could be used as a weapon or a miracle, when it is empowered by quoting verses from the Bible. Avengelyne uses her powers to fight demons on Earth and is being groomed to be humankind’s last hope in a coming Armageddon.
Liefeld has said, “Avengelyne resonated so powerfully with the audience because her story of redemption is one that is so relatable. A fallen angel, sentenced to redeem herself by serving humanity, Earth is a foreign environment to her, she must adapt in order to save herself as well as mankind. Her dilemma provides humor amidst the larger plot engine driving her journey.“
The original version of the character, who made her debut in 1995, was designed to look like former Vampirella model Cathy Christian. Over the years, she has been featured in comic books published by Maximum Press, Antarctic Press, Awesome Entertainment, Avatar Press, Arcana Studio, and Image Comics. Eleven years ago, Gina Carano was attached to star in an Avengelyne film, and at another point the project was set up at Paramount with Akiva Goldsman expected to produce.

The Funko Pop figures are out of the box and will be coming to PCs and consoles on September 13 for a massive interactive crossover event with the co-op action game Funko Fusion! On Tuesday, Funko Inc. and 10:10 Games released a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming video game, which will combine beloved IPs like Jaws, The Thing, Scott Pilgrim, The Walking Dead, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, Masters of the Universe, and more!

Today’s Funko Fusion trailer presents an intriguing blend of third-person gameplay with co-op action elements. Like Fortnite, Funko Fusion combines characters and weaponry from beloved franchises across various film genres. The Funko Fusion trailer also highlights original elements inspired by the Funko brand. From what I can gather, characters from the featured IPs are up against an original threat. We’ll need more details to know plot specifics, so don’t quote me on this aspect of the game.
Surprisingly, Funko Fusion looks fantastic aesthetically. Your mileage for Funko Pops may vary, but the trailer shows the game looking polished, engaging, and, dare I say, epic. I can’t help but wonder if the height of the Funko Pop fandom has passed and if the Funko Fusion game will arrive too late this September. Still, even though I don’t collect them anymore, many people continue to add the figures to their collection.
I admit to being Funko Fusion curious. If Funko Inc. and 10:10 Games introduce a live-service model and update the game with new Pops regularly, this could be a whole new way for fans to interact with the Funko brand.
