The 80s were a time when country music and a type of hero born of the good ol boy class that came into his own. This could be seen in shows like The Dukes Of Hazzard, BJ and The Bear, as well as movies like Any Which Way But Loose and Smokey and the Bandit. They were a time of what would be considered fun action films and TV. Again, this was personified in shows where usually no one got seriously hurt, like The A-Team. The bad guys went to the same shooting school as your friendly neighborhood Stormtroopers. But, one TV show that would personify this “nobody better get hurt” adventure series was The Fall Guy.
The series was designed as a vehicle for star Lee Majors, who had become a household name thanks to The Six Million Dollar Man, but struggled to find a worthy follow-up. This would be it, with him playing Colt Seavers, a likeable stuntman who supplements his income as a bounty hunter. For Majors, this would be a passion project, with him even singing the theme song. The show became a major hit, with Majors riding a second wave of fame while his gorgeous co-star, Heather Thomas, would become one of the biggest pin-ups of the 80s. The show has just been given the big-screen treatment, with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt starring in the well-received remake (read our review here), so now it’s time to pay tribute to the original show.
This episode is written by Jessica Dwyer, edited by Cesar Gabriel, narrated by Travis Hopson, and produced by David Arroyo. We hope you love this episode – and let us know in the comments what you think!
Back in 2020, it was announced that Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again director Ol Parker would be following that film up by taking the helm of The Thursday Murder Club, an adaptation of the debut novel by Richard Osman (creator and co-presenter of the BBC quiz show Pointless), for Amblin. Given that Parker’s involvement was announced just days before the pandemic lockdowns, it’s not surprising to hear that iteration of the project didn’t hold together… but The Thursday Murder Club is still moving forward. Home Alone and Harry Potter director Chris Columbus is now attached to direct the film, and Variety reports that Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye), Helen Mirren (The Queen), and Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3) are being eyed for three of the four the lead roles!
The Thursday Murder Club will tell the story of four septuagenarian friends who live in a retirement community and solve cold cases for fun. When a shady property developer is found dead, the four find themselves in the middle of their first live crime.
The book became popular months before it was ever published, with Amblin beating thirteen other companies to come out the winner in an intense bidding war over the film rights. The Thursday Murder Club then became a New York Times bestseller, spawning three sequels: The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed, and The Last Devil to Die. The fifth book in the series is expected to arrive sometime in 2025.
Osman recently took to social media to say that the cast of The Thursday Murder Club is “insanely great.” The line-up of Brosnan, Mirren, and Kingsley would definitely fit that description… and if they do sign on, it looks like this has potential to become a franchise for them.
Would you like to see Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Ben Kingsley play retirement community residents who set out to solve a mystery? Have you read The Thursday Murder Club or any of its sequels? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
I haven’t read the book yet, but this project sounds interesting to me, so I look forward to seeing how it’s going to turn out.
There is a reason why Minishoot’ Adventure has that apostrophe in its name, but it isn’t a good enough one, so we’ll rightly ignore it from now on. But this certainly isn’t a game you should ignore: despite the awful name, this is the best Zelda-like 2024 has offered so far, and it’s also somehow a bullet-hell…

Close on the heels of Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving came another holiday-themed slasher movie, as director Erik Bloomquist‘s slasher movie Founders Day received a limited theatrical release in the United States, courtesy of Dark Sky Films, back in January. If you didn’t catch the movie during its run on the big screen, we have a positive update to share with you today: Coming Soon reports that Founders Day has a digital release date of May 7th.
Written by Erik Bloomquist and Carson Bloomquist, Founders Day is a contemporary murder mystery set in the midst of a heated mayoral election on the eve of a quaint New England town’s tricentennial.
The Bloomquist brothers produced the film for Mainframe Pictures, alongside Adam Weppler. Hargreaves co-produced with William Russ. William Kay serves as executive producer with Blue Finch Films’ Mike Chapman and Fatima Hayward.
The film stars Amy Hargreaves (Brainscan), Devin Druid (13 Reasons Why), Emilia McCarthy (SkyMed), Catherine Curtin (Stranger Things), William Russ (Boy Meets World), Naomi Grace (NCIS), Olivia Nikkanen (The Society), Jayce Bartok (When They See Us), Andrew Stewart Jones (Gotham), Tyler James White (The Villains of Valley View), Erik Bloomquist (Weekenders), Adam Weppler (Long Lost), Kate Edmonds (The Third Saturday in October), Dylan Slade (Katelyn), and Arun Cameron Storrs (Ninja Zombies).
The Bloomquists provided the following statement: “With whodunnit slashers serving as our entry point into the genre, we are elated to bring our own mischief-laden, blood-soaked mystery to life. Founders Day is a slasher for the world we are living in right now, and we can’t wait for the speculation on who’s behind the mask to begin…“ On the subject of the Dark Sky Films distribution deal, they said, “We’re very happy to be partnering with the team at Dark Sky who know and love the power of genre cinema like we do. As the chaos of modern politics rages, The Founder is primed and ready to be unleashed on American audiences.“
Founders Day has been rated R for “strong bloody violence, language, and some sexual references.” So it delivers pretty much what you expect to see from a slasher movie.
I have been looking forward to Founders Day ever since it was first announced, so I will definitely be watching it once it gets a digital release. Will you be watching this movie? Did you see it during its theatrical run? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
The John Woo identity switch film Face/Off is one of those 90s action movies that is memorable for good and bad reasons. With such a far-out concept and a beautiful excess of mayhem mixed with some fun drama, it’s easy to see why it made a mark the way it did, much more than Woo’s previous American effort, Broken Arrow, which was a more run-of-the-mill action movie. It’s also a film that seems like a one-and-done for the stars, no matter how much Paramount would want to franchise the title.
Well, although there had been rumblings of possible sequel talk before, now it looks as if good ol’ industry insider, Daniel Richtman, is back with a new rumor. According to Richtman, the new bit of news for the sequel is that both John Travolta and Nicolas Cage will be returning to the face-swapping sequel. How this will exactly work is not yet revealed since Cage’s Castor Troy did not emerge as the victor in his fight to the death with Travolta’s Sean Archer. However, an argument can be made that Castor’s face was preserved after the battle, and someone somewhere will be dawning his flesh mask. Or Troy simply wasn’t killed.
Prior to this news, Nicolas Cage revealed he met with Godzilla X Kong director Adam Wingard, who was developing a sequel with writer Simon Barrett, for a discussion of possible story ideas and one of the concepts involved Castor and Sean’s children. Cage explained, “I think Face/Off is a sequel that lends itself to a lot of twists and turns and unpredictability. It’s almost like if you factor in the idea of offspring and Castor and Sean having children and these children grow up, then it becomes like three-dimensional chess, and then it’s not just the two, John Travolta and myself, it’s four of us ping-ponging and going at different levels, and it becomes even more complex. I think there’s a lot of fertile ground there. I had maybe one meeting in an office, but I haven’t heard anything since, so I don’t know.“
According to World of Reel, last year, Wingard was adamant about doing the sequel with both stars returning, “Look, I mean, like, the only way that we’re going to do this really is if we get, you know, the original cast.’ I’m not going to say how it works or anything, but like, it’s got to be 100% the real follow up not just like some fan service movie, not just some like ca-ching thing, this has to feel like the ultimate follow-up to the original film.”
