Ready or Not 2

Has it really been five years since the release of Ready or Not? The film, which starred Samara Weaving as a young bride who her spouse’s wealthy family hunts as part of a ritual, received positive reviews and didn’t do too badly at the box office, so where’s the sequel? Well, directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and producer Chad Villella — collectively known as Radio Silence — told Entertainment Weekly that they’ve been working on Ready or Not 2 since the release of the first movie and tease that it’s “an absolute f***ing banger.

It’s getting figured out,” said Gillett. “That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening. That movie is truly the love of our creative lives in a lot of ways.

Gillett added that the Radio Silence team, along with screenwriters Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, headed to Las Vegas after the release of the movie to attempt to develop a sequel. “I don’t think we knew after making it that there would be so much story left to tell,” Gillett said. “We’re so proud of what that first movie is, we’re so proud of what the sequel is. We’re just really excited, and fingers crossed that it gets made.” While there’s no official word on whether Ready or Not 2 will actually get made, Radio Silence seems confident that they’ll get the greenlight eventually.

According to a report from Jeff Sneider last month, the sequel won’t be directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin. Instead, Escape Room director Adam Robitel will take the helm, with Samara Weaving returning as Grace.

The next film from Radio Silence will be Abigail, which follows a group of criminals who are hired to kidnap a little girl and watch over her in a safe house until the ransom can be paid. Unfortunately, they soon find out that the little girl is a blood-thirsty vampire who hunts them down one by one throughout the night. The film will hit theaters on April 19th and you can check out a review from our own Michael Conway right here.

idle Hands

If you had to choose which horror movie villain you could outlast, chances are Chucky would be at the top of most peoples’ lists. Come on, he’s like two and a half feet tall, how could you not win? Why not just kick him across the room? Well, this can work every now and then, but Chucky is one diabolical doll and sooner or later he’ll find a way to get you. But imagine this gets swapped: Chucky is the oversized one matching wits and knives with someone – or something – a fraction of his size. That’s just the scenario Devon Sawa pictures, wondering what it would be like if the hand from Idle Hands were to take on the Good Guy.

Speaking with Collider, Devon Sawa – who has appeared in every season of Chucky so far, albeit as different characters – said that the possessed appendage of Anton Tobias from now-beloved horror-comedy Idle Hands – would make a perfect adversary. “I would love to see something like Chucky battle the hand, running wild in a little house, like a hand and Chucky chasing it with a knife. That would be the ultimate battle.” OK, that’s not quite a Freddy vs. Jason-level showdown, but no doubt Chucky would have plenty of cutting one-liners to work in against Anton’s hand…

The Child’s Play franchise has never fully crossed over with another horror franchise in its 36-year history, building its own world across eight movies and its own TV series. Idle Hands, on the other, uh, hand, never even received one sequel, which is no surprise considering it was a commercial failure. Even still, as its cult fanbase has built since 1999, many horror fans would welcome a follow-up. Sawa himself would be game, previously saying, “If there was one film that I want to do a sequel to that would be the one. Just because that set was, between Elden [Henson], and Seth Green, and Vivica Fox, [Jessica] Alba, Jack Noseworthy, and all those people, it was like summer camp and it was so much fun…I would love that to happen but unfortunately the first one didn’t… I think it broke even or something like that, but you never know. You never know.”

What do you think? Could a Chucky / Anton Tobias face-off work? Who would win out?

Dev Patel, Colman Domingo, Jurassic World

With Scarlett Johansson now in talks to star in the new Jurassic World movie, scooper Daniel Richtman has added a couple more casting rumours to the fire. According to Richtman, Colman Domingo (Euphoria) and Dev Patel (Monkey Man) are being eyed to star in the Jurassic World relaunch.

There’s no information on who Dev Patel might play in the Jurassic World movie, but Richtman added that Colman Domingo is being eyed to play the villain. Take all this with a grain of salt for now, but Patel and Domingo would make for excellent additions to the cast.

Gareth Edwards (Rogue One) signed on the direct the new Jurassic World movie after talks with David Leitch (Bullet Train) fell through, and with the movie already slated for a July 2, 2025 release, Edwards will have to get to work pretty quick. The movie will relaunch the franchise with a fresh take, which means that neither Chris Pratt nor Bryce Dallas Howard are expected to return. The original trilogy group consisting of Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern isn’t likely to be back either. However, there will be a blast from the past behind the scenes as original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp has signed on to pen the script.

Although Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion didn’t receive the best reviews upon release, they did quite well at the box office, earning $1.3 billion and $1 billion, respectively. Universal clearly believes that there’s plenty of juice left in the franchise.

Even before the release of Jurassic World: Dominion, franchise producer Frank Marshall was already keen on continuing the series. “[Dominion] is going to wrap up this [Jurassic World] trilogy, but we’re not resting on our laurels,” Marshall said. “We’re going to sit down, and we’re going to see what the future is. We have that wonderful series, Camp Cretaceous, on Netflix. We obviously want to make quality, good movies with great storytelling, great writers and directors, but we’re definitely looking to do more in the Jurassic world.

Peacemaker, season 2, James Gunn

Get ready to taste it all over again. James Gunn took to Instagram over the weekend to confirm that Peacemaker season 2 is now filming its first episode, which he later clarified was a Saturday “pre-shoot.

Just like the first season, James Gunn has written every episode of Peacemaker season 2, but he won’t be able to direct as many this time around as he’s in the midst of directing Superman. “Yes, I’ve written all the episodes; but, no, in the interest of getting the show out there I won’t be able to direct them all (only some),” Gunn said last month. He added that that will be “three other great directors joining me for the season.

Gunn has also stated that the first season of Peacemaker isn’t canon to the DC Universe, which has left fans curious about how the second season will tie into the new franchise. He also teased that the second season “will take place after the events in Superman,” adding that the events of the Superman movie will have an impact on Peacemaker. In addition to John Cena as Peacemaker, it’s expected that other members of the cast who will be returning include Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Adrian, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee as John Economos.

As for Superman, the much anticipated DC relaunch is set to star David Corenswet (Pearl) as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) as Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps; Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific; Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho; María Gabriela de Faría (Deadly Class) as The Engineer, a member of The Authority; Sara Sampaio (At Midnight) as Eve Teschmacher; Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones) as Jimmy Olsen; and Wendell Pierce as Perry White. Nicholas Hoult is also set to appear as Lex Luthor, which Gunn finally confirmed late last year. Superman is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

Chopping Mall

As far as I’m concerned, director Jim Wynorski’s 1986 film Chopping Mall (watch it HERE) ranks up there as one of the most entertaining horror movies of the ’80s, which is the decade that brought a lot of my favorite horror movies into the world. It’s also a movie that doesn’t seem to get referenced often enough, and doesn’t get as much respect as it deserves – even if James Wan wants to remake it and Shout Factory TV aired it for 24 hours straight on Black Friday. So I’m glad to see that Chopping Mall is getting some love from the folks at Encyclopocalypse Publications, who have announced that they’re teaming up with Shout Factory and author Brian G. Berry for a Chopping Mall novelization!

Written by Wynorski and Steve Mitchell, Chopping Mall has the following synopsis: Some people will kill for a bargain… and at the Park Plaza Mall they do! Here, you can shop until you drop… dead! High tech robots equipped with state-of-the-art security devices have been recruited as the new mechanical “night watchmen” for the Park Plaza Mall. When a jolting bolt of lightning short circuits the main computer control, the robots turn into “killbots”… on the loose after unsuspecting shoppers! Four couples are trying to make it after-hours in a mattress store. They make it all right… in the morgue! At Park Plaza Mall, you can save on everything but your life!

The film stars Kelli Maroney (Night of the Comet), Tony O’Dell (Head of the Class), Russell Todd (Friday the 13th Part 2), Karrie Emerson (Evils of the Night), Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), Nick Segal (Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo), John Terlesky (Deathstalker II), Suzee Slater (Mind Twister), Dick Miller (Gremlins), Gerrit Graham (Phantom of the Paradise), and Eating Raoul‘s Paul Bartel and Mary Woronov.

Encyclopocalypse Publications lets us know that the novelization “promises to deliver all the laughs and thrills that have made Chopping Mall a beloved fixture in horror cinema, reimagined as a collectible paperback book.” Trade paperback, mass market paperback, and ebook copies are available for pre-order on their website.

Encyclopocalypse Publications has been responsible for a lot of novelizations in recent years, and Brian G. Berry has written several for them, including Amityville Death Toilet, Commando Ninja, House Shark, House Squatch, Motorboat, She Kills, and The Barn.

Will you be reading the Chopping Mall novelization? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

I’ve been waiting more than thirty years to see the Killbots return to the screen, and reading this novelization will be a nice way to spend some time while I continue to wait.

Shadow the Hedgehog, Keanu Reeves, Sonic the Hedgehog 3

We’ve known that Shadow the Hedgehog would be appearing in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 for some time but didn’t know who would be voicing the character… until now. First reported by John Campea and confirmed by THR, Shadow the Hedgehog will be voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves.

The audience at CinemaCon got a glimpse of Shadow during Paramount’s panel, during which a first-look trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was screened. The character first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 as a dark version of Sonic who does whatever it takes to achieve his goals. The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has included some unexpected voice actors, such as Idris Elba as Knuckles, so it should be fun to see what Keanu Reeves does with Shadow.

James Marsden reprises his role as Tom Wachowski in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the sheriff of Green Hills. Other returning cast members include Ben Schwartz as Sonic the Hedgehog, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Miles “Tails” Prower, Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, Tom Butler as Commander Walters, Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, and, of course, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. New members of the cast include Krysten Ritter, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone, as well as Alyla Browne, who is said to be playing Maria.

Before we get to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the next installment of the franchise will actually be Knuckles, a six-episode series set to premiere on Paramount+. The series takes place between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and “follows Knuckles (Elba) on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade (Adam Pally) as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.Knuckles will debut on April 26th, followed by Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on December 20th.

As for Keanu Reeves, he will reprise his role as John Wick for Ballerina, the upcoming spin-off movie starring Ana de Armas. The spin-off, which is officially titled John Wick Presents: Ballerina, will hit theaters on June 6, 2025.

What do you think of Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog?
