beetlejuice 2 cast

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to director Tim Burton’s 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it HERE), is set to reach theatres on September 6th – and with that release date swiftly approaching, Empire magazine has unveiled a new image of Michael Keaton as the title character! They also shared quotes from Keaton about getting back into character after all these years, and from his co-stars, who were in awe of him on set. Keep scrolling down to read some of the quotes and see the new image.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was in development hell for decades before it finally got made. In 1990, Jonathan Gems was hired to write a sequel that was going to be titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Burton considered having Daniel Waters rewrite that script, Pamela Norris did rewrite it, and Warner Bros. offered Kevin Smith the chance to do another rewrite. He turned it down. Seth Grahame-Smith was hired to write and produce a new version of a sequel in 2011. Mike Vukadinovich was brought on to rewrite his script in 2017.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, co-creators and co-showrunners of Wednesday, have written the screenplay for Beetlejuice 2 that was actually filmed. Brad Pitt’s Plan B is producing the sequel, which filmed in London before moving to Vermont and Massachusetts.

Here’s the official synopsis: Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.

Keaton told Empire that, to get back into character as “the ghost with the most,” he had to ignore all of the Beetlejuice merchandising that has come out over the years (which he described as “f*cking weird”) and “go, ‘What was my unusual imagination even thinking about when I was developing it in the first place?’ As opposed to seeing a coffee mug or a golf-club cover [adorned with Beetlejuice’s face].’ … To be honest with you – I’m being very frank – [the merchandising] was off-putting, to look and go, ‘I don’t want to look like all these little things, f*ck that – what was the thing that started this?’

Keaton is joined in the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice cast by Winona Ryder, reprising the role of Lydia Deetz; Catherine O’Hara, back as Lydia’s stepmother Delia; Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter Astrid, Justin Theroux as a fellow named Rory,  Monica Bellucci as Beetlejuice’s wife and Willem Dafoe as a law enforcement officer in the afterlife. Arthur Conti is also in there, in an unspecified role.

O’Hara said it was “insane” to see Keaton slip back into the role of Beetlejuice, while Burton said it was like he was “possessed by a demon.” As Ortega described it, “It was like an animal with a gun had just walked into the room. To watch him physically change and appear and Michael Keaton to be gone, and for me to be dealing with this Beetlejuice guy… it blew my mind.

As for the film itself, Keaton said, “I love it. I absolutely love this thing. And I don’t [usually] talk like that. I unabashedly love this. It was not easy to pull off, and I think we did it in spades.” To read more, click over to the Empire link.

Mahershala Ali

We’ve been waiting a few years to see if and when the Marvel Cinematic Universe Blade reboot that’s set to star Mahershala Ali of Green Book is going to go into production – and while we continue to wait, Ali is in talks to join former MCU star Scarlett Johansson in the new Jurassic World movie that’s in the works at Universal! As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Ali tends to be very selective and usually avoids Hollywood blockbuster-type projects (aside from Blade), so getting him to sign on for a role would be a big “get” for this project.

If Ali’s deal closes, he’ll be sharing the screen with Johansson (Black Widow), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Rupert Friend (Anatomy of a Scandal), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), and a bunch of hungry dinosaurs. This new Jurassic World movie will have Gareth Edwards (GodzillaRogue One) directing the film from a screenplay by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, who returns to the franchise for the first time since The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Details on the plot have not been revealed.

Glen Powell recently mentioned that he had been offered a role in this film, but turned it down because he didn’t feel his presence would add anything to it. That said, “The script’s great. The movie’s going to fucking kill.” Previous reports have said that the new film isn’t going to star any of the leads from previous movies, so Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern are out, along with Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.

The new Jurassic World movie will be at least partially filmed at Sky Studios Elstree in the UK. Cameras are expected to start rolling sometime next month. The film is aiming for a July 2, 2025 theatrical release – so, as The Hollywood Reporter put it, “it will be hustling like a velociraptor in post-production.”

Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are producing the film for Kennedy/Marshall. Steven Spielberg is executive producing through Amblin Entertainment. Universal’s executive vp of production development Sara Scott and creative executive Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project for the studio.

National Treasure 3, Jon Turteltaub, Nicolas Cage

Despite Nicolas Cage’s vehement remarks about not being game for a National Treasure 3, director Jon Turteltaub is confident the project is happening, with the original cast along for the ride. Speaking with the National Treasure Hunt podcast, Turteltaub said he’s “100%” confident the sequel could happen with the original cast intact, including Cage, but they’ll need to act fast to get it made.

“100%. … We do have to hurry because people are both getting older and less interested and lives are changing and all that. And the world changes,” Turteltaub explained to the National Treasure Hunt podcast. Our culture is changing. A lot. Since the first movie was made. Socially, certainly politically, and definitely, our language, and different cultural changes we’ve had. And you’ve got to make sure you’re in touch with all that and moving with it, and doing things the right way. … It’s not as easy to just do another one. You’ve got to take a lot into account. I can tell you, 20 years later Justin Bartha is a lot better looking.

National Treasure harkens back to a cinematic era when action-adventure films were in style, with Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mummy, and The Legend of Zorro delighting audiences with family-friendly fun and light-hearted comedy. The first of two films in the National Treasure series banked $347 million on a budget of $100 million, exceeding expectations and then some. National Treasure: Book of Secrets followed in 2007, grossing $459 million, blowing the first total out of the water. National Treasure returned in 2022 with National Treasure: Edge of History, a series starring Lisette Olivera as a 20-year-old Dreamer exploring the mystery of her family’s history. The Disney+ series lasted for one season before getting canceled.

Turteltaub’s comment about Cage being game to return to the National Treasure franchise is strange, considering the actor’s reaction to being asked about starring in a third chapter of the series. Speaking with Screen Rant in March, an upset Cage said, “Here we go! See, you’re the one that brings these things up and they go out and they eclipse everything else. No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.

Do you think Turteltaub’s comments about National Treasure 3 hold water? Is it too late to recapture the magic that made the first two films so popular? Will Cage bend the knee and return for a threequel regardless of his comments? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Garfield Furiosa

Last weekend saw one of the closest box office battles of the summer, with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga only narrowly inching out a victory over The Garfield Movie (by less than a million bucks). With very little in the way of competition this weekend, the orange, animated feline is set to overtake Miller’s post-apocalyptic actioner, thanks mainly to weekend family matinees.

Given how mediocre Furiosa’s box office start was (with many predicting it killed the chance of us ever getting Mad Max: The Wasteland), all eyes will be on the film’s hold this weekend. Given the reviews and word of mouth, I predict a 40% decline, which would put it in the $16-17 million range. To note, during its run, Mad Max: Fury Road never posted a drop over 50% until late in its run. Hopefully, word of mouth means the film will have a decent enough finish at the box office, although Garfield will certainly make more money. I’m expecting that one to make $18 million.

The one sliver of good news for the holdovers at the box office is that nothing’s really opening this weekend that has a shot at a top-five finish, with the drama Ezra not really getting much the way of publicity despite good reviews for its star-studded cast (our review will be up tomorrow). Disney’s Young Woman and the Sea, starring Daisy Ridley, is only getting a limited release. Paramount’s IF should be able to hold on to third place with $10 million, while Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will likely make about $8 million, with Fall Guy in fifth place with $3 million.

As such, the box office reporting this week will be a bit of a drag, unless something unexpected happens, like Furiosa suddenly turning into a word of mouth hit. Things should pick up next weekend with the release of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which is getting great word-of-mouth.

Here are our predictions:

  1. The Garfield Movie: $18 million
  2. Furiosa: $16 million
  3. IF: $10 million
  4. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: $8 million
  5. The Fall Guy: $3 million

PLOT: “Jim Henson Idea Man” takes us into the mind of this singular creative visionary, from his early years puppeteering on local television to the worldwide success of Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and beyond. Featuring unprecedented access to Jim’s personal archives, Howard brings us a fascinating and insightful look at a complex man whose boundless imagination inspired the world.

REVIEW: It’s hard to properly quantify the importance of someone like Jim Henson. The value of education is obvious but the ability to make it fun for kids is a tough nut to crack. Whether it’s through Sesame Street or The Muppets, Henson’s work has taught generations. That’s not to mention the emotional maturity brought on by films like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. So it’s well overdue that we’re treated to a documentary, lovingly portraying one of the most remarkable minds in Hollywood.

Utilizing archive footage as well as brand new interviews with his family members and countless colleagues, Jim Henson: Idea Man gives the audience a chance to learn a little more about the man who voiced Kermit (amongst many other things). From his desire to simply create and all the forms which that took. It’s easy to see how big his properties have become but the journey getting there is fascinating. Education is simply an afterthought to Henson, with his primary goal being one of creative fulfillment.

Henson proved to be an enigma in many ways. While most creative types are often ignorant to the cost at hand, Henson always kept an eye on “the almighty dollar.” He knew that without funding, they would be nowhere, and even kept a mural in the office to remind others. His approach has allowed the Muppets Studio to persevere for decades. The story is told in a biographical sense, with various collaborators discussing their time with the man. Directed by Ron Howard, there’s a command of the narrative that only comes with years of experience. As a video editor, it’s hard not to appreciate all they went through to liven up a still image.

I’d argue the only thing really missing is the full picture of what made Henson human. They allude to various transgressions he made, especially in regards to his marriage, but it’s really glossed over. Henson’s detachment from his marriage seemed like a massive shift in his creative endeavors. He went from creating this magic with his wife as a partner to pushing her into motherhood and forming those same bonds with others. Heck, one of Jane’s replacements was Frank Oz, who would go on to work in countless classic films. The ripple effect of this one action is massive and doesn’t feel like it’s treated with anything except a loving lens. I would have appreciated a little more truth about the situation.

Muppet Studios in Jim Henson: Idea Man (2024).

One thing that the filmmakers handle wonderfully is the suddenness of Jim’s passing. The narrative is moving along and it feels like Henson’s output will be limitless, only for it to be gone in a flash. The shock is clear amongst his family, who are still reeling from the giant hole Jim left in their lives. Because he was more than just a creative force, he was a guiding light for so many. He had so many ideas and hopes for the future. While no doubt his family and collaborators have done a great job of keeping his spirit alive, it’s hard not to think about what others things he’d have created given a little more time.

I’m not sure we’ll ever get someone like Jim Henson ever again. He was a unique person who pushed creative boundaries. Idea Man is a wonderful look at his life and all of the good he managed in his 53 years on this earth. His family’s involvement means we aren’t really getting any of the ugly side, therefore depleting the narrative of a grounded reality. But this film isn’t interested in getting into of the nitty gritty and is instead focused on showcasing the brilliant work of Mr. Jim Henson. And sometimes in this cynical world, that’s all you need.

Apologies to the Dune: Part Two popcorn bucket, but you’ll need to hold Deadpool & Wolverine‘s beer as a new receptacle for buttery popped kernels takes the crown. Ryan Reynolds is making savory snack enthusiasts think filthy thoughts after debuting the limited-edition popcorn bucket for Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn bucket gives audiences the gift of an open-mouthed Logan Howlett while wearing his X-Men ’97 costume. In a new video posted to Reynolds’ YouTube page, the Merc With a Mouth promotes the suggestive popcorn bucket by lovingly stroking Logan’s plastic face as a popcorn waterfall fills the surly hero’s gaping maw with delicious treats. Immediately, one imagines advantageous movie fans planking over the bucket with wicked intentions. No? Just me? Clearly, y’all need to spend more time on the internet.

If you’re interested in owning the Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn bucket, you’ll need to act fast. It’s sure to fly off theater shelves when the film opens the weekend of July 26, 2024. You can try your luck on eBay, but who’s to say the seller won’t list it as “Used?”

Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively. In addition to featuring the superhero team-up of the century, the threequel finds Wade and Logan sticking their dirty fingers into the Marvel Cinematic Timeline, creating chaos while foiling a nefarious plot devised by Charles Xavier’s sister, Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin). The MCU desperately needs a shake-up, and it sounds like Cassandra Nova and multiversal shenanigans could usher significant changes into the interconnected universe.

Deadpool & Wolverine also stars Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Rob Delaney as Peter. Deadpool 3 will also star Emma Corrin as the villain and Matthew Macfadyen as a TVA agent. The film is also expected to feature cameos from characters throughout the history of 20th Century Fox’s Marvel movies, with a few already being revealed in the trailer, including Aaron Stanford as Pyro.
