Attack of the Jeremy’s! Variety reports that Succession star Jeremy Strong is in talks to join Jeremy Allen White in Deliver Me From Nowhere, the upcoming movie revolving around Bruce Springsteen and the making of his iconic album, Nebraska.
Should Strong sign on to the project, he would play Bruce Springsteen’s longtime manager, Jon Landau. 20th Century Studios and Disney will produce and distribute the movie based on Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska by Warren Zanes. Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) will write and direct with production expected to kick off this fall.
Springsteen and Landau are involved in the project, which will give the project access to Springsteen’s music. “Warren Zanes’ Deliver Me From Nowhere is one of the best books ever written about Bruce Springsteen and his music,” Landau said. “Bruce and I are thrilled that Scott Cooper has chosen to write and direct the film based on that book – we think he’s the perfect filmmaker for the job. Scott, with Producers Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson at The Gotham Group, and Scott Stuber are bringing together a superb team to ensure that this project has the vision and soul that have been the hallmark of Bruce’s 55-year career. We’re thrilled to have the wholehearted commitment and support of the entire team at 20th and Disney.“
Scott Cooper added, “I once read that Nebraska is an album that moves you to the marrow of your bones. I couldn’t agree more. Bruce Springsteen, and Nebraska, in particular, have had a profound impact on me and my work. Through themes of despair, disillusionment, and the struggles of everyday Americans, Bruce has formed an unparalleled legacy, painting an unflinching portrait of the human condition. Yet, amidst the darkness, a sense of resilience and a sense of hope shines through, reflecting an indomitable spirit. That’s the Bruce I’ve come to know and love and will honor with this film. Warren Zanes’ wonderful telling of this chapter in Bruce’s life is ripe for cinematic adaptation. This film has the potential to be a transformative cinematic experience, offering audiences a window into the soul of Bruce Springsteen and the universal truths that bind us all together.“
Anyone But Youand Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney is eager to enter the squared circle to portray pioneering boxer Christy Martin for director David Michôd’s upcoming biopic. The project, which will fetch a pretty penny at the Cannes market, charts Martin’s rise to become the most iconic boxer of the 1990s. Dubbed the “female Rocky” by producers, the untitled film follows Martin as she makes a name for herself in the squared circle.
Martin’s life changed dramatically in 1989 when she met her manager and later husband, Jim Martin. Her career blew up when she signed with fight promoter Don King, leading to an iconic cover story for Sports Illustrated. Known for her fighting prowess, stand-out beauty, and charismatic ways, Martin gained a significant fanbase on her way to becoming the welterweight champion. Sadly, like many athletes, Martin struggled behind the scenes with personal demons, toxic relationships, and an attempt to end her life.
“I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself.” Sweeney told Deadline, who broke the story about Sweeney’s casting on Wednesday.
“Christy Martin not only legitimized female boxing, she overcame gender stereotypes, and fought through emotional, physical, and financial abuse,” Sweeney continued. “I’m passionate about the fighting world, Christy’s story shines a light on her incredible rise to the top while showing the struggles of fame behind the curtains. I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity and didn’t allow it to defeat her. It’s powerful, and emotional.”
“The film is about Christy as a young gay woman in small town Virginia in the 1990s. She came from a relatively conservative family and wasn’t allowed to be who she was so she used boxing as a vehicle to express herself and her rage. She had to make some dangerous and fundamental compromises in her life, the most important of which was marrying an incredibly dangerous man,” Michôd says about the script.
Sweeney is excited about training for the film and can’t wait to mix it up as Christy Martin in the ring. I love a great Hollywood transformation story and await the details of Sweeney’s training regimen with bated breath. My mom was a personal trainer, so I grew up around strong women (my sister was also a gym rat), and I look forward to seeing Sweeney throw her weight behind a solid punch to her opponent’s bread basket. LFG!

It’s good to be Paul Giamatti. With seven years of Showtime’s Billions under his belt, and a fresh Oscar nomination for The Holdovers in his rearview mirror, the legendary character actor can seemingly have his pick of any role he wants on the big or small screen. According to a scoop by notorious Hollywood tipster Daniel Richtman, he may have just chosen the most unlikely follow-up of all time: a TV version of Eli Roth’s Hostel from the controversial horror auteur himself.
While this might sound outrageous to some, Giamatti has been very open about his love of the genre, noting that he wants to add more horror to his filmography. He’s always carved out time in his schedule to be in genre stuff like the series 30 Coins, the movies Morgan, John Dies at the End, Gunpowder Milkshake, Shoot ’em Up, and more. He also noted that one of his favorite roles of all time was as the ape Limbo in Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes. With his love of the genre, he might be taking the opportunity to step it up a bit in a series that could put him in the pantheon of horror greats, especially if he’s teaming with Eli Roth.
A Hostel TV show actually sounds like a nifty idea. While it’s unlikely it would be as heavy as the first two movies, which pushed the envelope regarding screen violence, the premise was always compelling. In it, young backpackers are lured to a Hostel where they are tortured to death by sadistic wealthy folk. With the income gap increasing more and more each year, this could prove to be fertile ground for a long-form TV project. I could see Giamatti in a number of potential roles. He could play a sadistic rich person torturing travellers, or he could play one of the people running the hostel. He could also play a more reluctant participant or even a good guy trying to shut the hostel down. Heck, he could even play a torture victim himself. Any of these roles would suit him – although my suspicion is that if Giamatti is doing horror, he’s gonna want to play a REAL bad guy. Preferably one with a menacing accent.
Does a Hostel TV show with Giamatti and Roth sound promising? Let us know in the comments!
Shhh. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of the new teaser for A Quiet Place: Day One. While series creator John Krasinski has opted to do a much more family-friendly fare with the Ryan Reynolds movie IF, A Quiet Place has been handed off to some pretty capable hands as Michael Sarnoski steps up to sit in the director’s seat. The new trailer will be dropping sometime tomorrow. However, the official Instagram account for the film and the film’s studio, Paramount, couldn’t wait to tease audiences with this atmospheric, ASMR-esque video which should give you the environment of the invasion as you listen to it with headphones on.
Footage was showcased at this year’s CinemaCon and our own Lance Vlcek would give his description, “Set in New York. Lupita Nyong’o looks up to see the aliens shooting down to earth as everyone in the city looks at what seems to be meteors raining down. Everything goes wild, chaos in the streets, everyone is getting attacked/killed as Nyong’o hides under a truck. A man tries to hide with her, only for him to be pulled away to death. Jump scare cut! Army and martial law takes over and everyone in NY is quarantined. The army destroys all of the bridges out of the city, keeping everyone (assuming they think the monsters as well) stuck in the city. Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn make a pack to escape the city. Quinn and Nyong’o escape into a skyscraper. The revolving door creaks, causing a slew of monsters to ascend into the building, climbing down the outside of the skyscraper in what looks like a great set piece.“
While John Krasinski directed the previous two films, he is producing A Quiet Place: Day One and has passed the helming duties over to Michael Sarnoski, director of the Nicolas Cage drama Pig (watch it HERE). Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special) was attached to write and direct A Quiet Place: Day One for a while, but when he dropped out he was replaced by Sarnoski. The story, which is credited to Krasinski and Sarnoski, does take place in the same world established in the first two movies, but doesn’t involve the Abbott family, the characters we followed through the first two movies.
Meanwhile, Sarnoski’s next project will be a dark reimagining with Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer which depicts an aged Robin of Lockley titled The Death of Robin Hood. Sarnoski is writing and directing the film, which is said to be “a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale. Set of its time, the film will see the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, a battleworn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.” Production is due to begin in February 2025.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth are ready to “make it epic” when Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga barrels into cinemas on May 24, 2024! As tickets for the full-throttle prequel become available for pre-order, the final Furiosa trailer explodes onto screens with action, drama, and one particular shot that now makes me curious about an element of the film. I’m talking about the shot of the CGI-enhanced War Boy.
My knee-jerk reaction to the CGI-enhanced War Boy is one of apprehension. How large of a role does this character play in the film, and will their cartoonishness offset an otherwise incredible-looking film? I hope not. One of the more thrilling elements of Miller’s Mad Max series is the visual spectacle, and I worry the CGI-enhanced War Boy could be an “arrow to the knee.” I could be entirely off base, and I’m simply being paranoid for no good reason. It’s a small comfort that the early reactions to Furiosa are glowingly positive, so this character did not throw audiences into a tizzy. Plus, the final Furiosa trailer looks sick, doesn’t it?
Reactions to the new Wasteland fairy tale have now hit social media. JoBlo’s JimmyO posted, “#Furiosa brings us back to The Wasteland with a stunning performance from Anya Taylor Joy. The excellent script, while still bombastic and thrilling, takes a slight detour from Fury Road. Once again, George Miller presents another visual masterclass to IMAX! It’s a glorious flick, and yes, Chris Hemsworth is insanely enjoyable as Dementus! Furiosa is yet another wild and unforgettable ride!”
Directed by George Miller from a screenplay he wrote with Nico Lathouris, Furiosa has the following synopsis:
As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by the Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants are in a war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
The title character, Furiosa, is played by Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), who takes over from Fury Road’s Charlize Theron. Lachy Hulme (Offspring) pulls double duty, playing both Fury Road villain Immortan Joe (taking over from the late Hugh Keays-Byrne) and a character called Rizzdale Pell, who is “one of the gang members affiliated with the warlord Dementus.” We’ve heard Dementus is “a pretty horrible individual, and he’s played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor). Also in the cast are Tom Burke (C.B. Strike) and Quaden Bayles (Three Thousand Years of Longing), with Alyla Browne (The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart) as a younger Furiosa. Nathan Jones and Angus Sampson are said to reprise their Fury Road roles of Rictus Erectus and The Organic Mechanic.
What do you think about the final Furiosa trailer? Does the CGI-enhanced War Boy make you nervous? Let us know in the comments section below.
