Harvey Smith, the now-former studio director at Arkane Austin, has taken to X/Twitter to express his feelings about Microsoft’s sudden and shocking closure of the beloved developer, alongside three other Bethesda-adjacent studios, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Games. A few weeks ago, it looked like S Craig Zahler would be making the noir thriller The Big Stone Grid as his first movie since Dragged Across Concrete back in 2018. Now, it turns out that Zahler will indeed be making a new film, but it will be an all-new project that re-teams him with his frequent star Vince Vaughn. The movie The Bookie and the Bruiser is a period crime flick that teams Vaughn with Adrien Brody, and the film is set to be shot later this year.
According to the release from Anton, the company financing the film, “The Bookie & the Bruiser is set in 1959 New York City and features a pensive, Jewish fellow named Rivner and an oversized Italian-American tough named Boscolo from the Lower East Side, both of whom served overseas in World War II and returned changed men who no longer fit inside the lives they’d left behind. Uninterested in taking orders from bosses or playing by the rules of polite society, the two friends partner up as a bookmaker and an enforcer and create an illicit gambling operation that proves to be very profitable, though risky, and their situation gets rather sticky when they find themselves stuck between a powerful Irish gang and the Mafia.”
While it hasn’t been confirmed, it doesn’t take a genius to figure Vaughn is playing the titular bruiser, with Brody as the Bookie. For those who may not know it, Vaughn is actually one of the most physically imposing actors in Hollywood, with him standing a massive 6’5. I interviewed Vaughn (along with the great Don Johnson) some years back when he did his first movie for Zahler, Brawl in Cell Block 99, and took a photo with him. To note, I’m 6’2 (on a good day), but I looked TINY next to him. Check it out:
Being a huge fan of Vaughn’s, I’m very excited to see him re-team with Zahler. While I thought Dragged Across Concrete was more Mel Gibson’s film than Vaughn’s, he was superb in the kick-ass Brawl in Cell Block 99, one of my favorite action films from the last ten years. While I enjoy Vaughn in comedy, I like him even more in darker fare, and this sounds like a perfect film for him. Ditto Adrien Brody, who’s been on a roll recently, with him having a killer role as Pat Riley on the, unfortunately, cancelled Winning Time.
Needless to say, this one is skyrocketing up to the top of my list of must-see movies for 2025. Zahler’s made three movies so far (Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99 and Dragged Across Concrete), and they’ve all been exceptional.

An original prototype of Nintendo’s Super Famicom, Japan’s (superior) version of the SNES, is currently up for auction and recent bids have already pushed the grey piece of gaming history north of $3.2 million. The “god-tier” nostalgia bait shows the market for retro collectibles can still be all over the place.
There were many things to look forward to when Dune: Part Two finally landed after a bit of a delay. The sequel expanded on the lore and started to escalate the universe well beyond what general audiences could predict. There were even rumblings that Anya Taylor-Joy might have a secret role and fuel would be added to the fire as she walked the red carpet at the premiere dressed in a very desert-appropriate dress. Lo and behold, during the two-hour and forty-six-minute epic, the unborn sister of Paul Atreides, Alia, would come to him in a vision as an adult and the viewers would be greeted with Taylor-Joy’s face.
Taylor-Joy would sit down with Variety to talk about her upcoming film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga when she revealed the story of how the secret cameo came about. As she made her appearance as a pretty significant character, that led to speculation of her return for Dune Messiah. When asked if there will be another Dune in her future, Taylor-Joy simply replied, “I hope so.” Meanwhile, Villeneuve would not contain his excitement to work with her again, “Shooting with Anya in Africa was nothing short of magical,” he says. “Her generosity, candor and passion truly moved me. I can’t wait to go back on Arrakis with her.”
She had actually met with director Denis Villeneuve just prior to filming Furiosa. The meeting was for a different movie, but Taylor-Joy explained, “Before I even sat down, he was like, ‘I want you to be in Dune, but you can’t do it!’ I was like, ‘Please?’ I skipped all the stages of grief and went straight to begging I was like, ‘I can do this. I can be in Australia and Abu Dhabi at the same time.’ He wanted me to be part of the universe. We kept in touch. I just had this feeling that it wasn’t over.”
Villeneuve recalled instantly seeing Taylor-Joy in the role just as the meeting with her started, “Anya was Alia as soon as I met with her. In fact, I realized after the fact, she has always been Alia. Anya feels out of this world, as though she belongs to some other dimension, one step into the dream.” Her role was kept secret, however. It was shot with a small crew in Nambia. She revealed, “I told my husband and my parents and I took my mum.” What’s even more impressive was that it was revealed that “no one at the studio knew. My face had been blurred out” in early versions of the film.
Through his X movies, Ti West has created one of the best, most ambitious horror series going right now. And while we’re on the cusp of his trilogy coming to an end after the slow-burn ‘70s homage X and demented origin story Pearl, some may be eager for more after this summer’s MaXXXine. But will that ever happen?
Ti West confirmed that MaXXXine “will probably be the end of the Maxine era” but did also note, “I do have one idea that plays into these movies that could maybe happen. I don’t know if it’ll be next. It might be. We’ll see.” That’s not too hopeful, but we did go in knowing that Ti West would be delivering a trilogy, so we can’t be all that disappointed if it ends where it was intended to.
Ti West also said that MaXXXine is by far the most ambitious of the trilogy, saying, “The thing that the other two movies don’t have is that sort of scope. To try to do a big, sprawling Los Angeles ensemble movie is what the movie was, and that’s just a big undertaking.” MaXXXine takes place after the events of Pearl, finding Mia Goth’s character in Los Angeles at the same time as serial killer the Night Stalker aka Richard Ramirez. That aspect opens up the opportunity for a lot more blood than even its predecessors – a fitting way to conclude the X series.
It also gives the series a chance to explore a realm it has yet to, ensuring yet again that fans can’t guess where it leads. As Ti West also said, “People will be killed, yeah, I’m going to deliver on all those things. But it’s going to zig instead of zag in a lot of places that people aren’t expecting. It’s a very decadent world that she lives in, and it’s a very aggressive world that she lives in, but the threat shows up in an unexpected way.”
Are you looking forward to Ti West capping off his X trilogy or do you want more movies in that universe? What has been your favorite so far? Let us know in the comments section below.

Ryan Murphy is not one to shy away from many things. This even includes casting names not normally known for acting, such as Lady Gaga’s early crossover role when she made her appearance in the FX series, American Horror Story. Recently, Murphy even cast Kim Kardashian in a later season of American Horror Story, who isn’t the most popular figure, given the amount of exposure she’s received for years. Murphy would drop a teaser for his upcoming horror drama for FX, which you can watch below, and Deadline has reported that Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will be making his Hollywood debut in Grotesquerie.
The NFL star will be starring alongside Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville in the upcoming horror series, and the show has just started production. Grotesquerie finds Murphy reuniting with his normal run of collaborators Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken. He released an all-text teaser in on his Instagram last February. The teaser included audio of Nash-Betts character in either a phone call or recording where she says, “I don’t know when it started, I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s different now. There’s been a shift, like something’s opening up in the world — a kind of hole that descends into a nothingness.”
Kelce would be a hometown celebrity in his own right with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes being predominantly featured in the national spotlight. However, a public budding relationship with popstar Taylor Swift catapulted Kelce into the stratosphere. Prior to his newfound international fame, Kelce had dipped his toe into the acting world when hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live. However, years before, he would also become the focus of his own reality dating show, Catching Kelce. Kelce regularly hosts a podcast with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, but Hollywood came knocking with his high-profile tabloid relationship, and Kelce would sign with CAA. He had also began his run as a film producer as he would EP for an indie titled My Dead Friend Zoe, which premiered at SXSW. He is also set to produce an upcoming documentary on artist Jean-Michel Basquiat titled King Pleasure.
Meanwhile, Murphy has plenty of projects in the works for FX, including further seasons of American Horror Story, American Crime Story, American Horror Stories, Feud, and the upcoming American Sports Story, which will focus on Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots player who was found guilty of murder and later killed himself. Jose Andrés Rivera (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) has been tapped to star as Hernandez in American Sports Story, with Patrick Schwarzenegger (Gen V) onboard as Tim Tebow.
