The time has come for audiences to start witnessing George Miller’s newest action epic to see if it takes them to Valhalla or leaves them scrounging for food in the desert. The latest installment of the Mad Max saga spins off from Mad Max: Fury Road and sees Anya Taylor-Joy taking up the role from Charlize Theron. It had recently been confirmed that Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will also be the franchise’s longest film, with the Cannes Film Festival website confirming its 2 hour and 28 minute runtime. While that means the film is significantly longer (by a half hour) than Fury Road, it’s worth noting that this prequel tells a truly epic tale that takes place over decades. Fury Road only took place over two days.
The reactions to the new Wasteland fairy tale have now hit social media. Our own JimmyO posted, “#Furiosa brings us back to The Wasteland with a stunning performance from Anya Taylor Joy. The excellent script, while still bombastic and thrilling, takes a slight detour from Fury Road. Once again, George Miller presents another visual masterclass to IMAX! It’s a glorious flick, and yes, Chris Hemsworth is insanely enjoyable as Dementus! Furiosa is yet another wild and unforgettable ride!”
Nick’s Flicks Fix posted a reaction that glowed about Chris Hemsworth’s performance as he plays the rare villainous character. “#Furiosa is EPIC in every sense of the word! The world building and lore expansion of the Mad Max universe is front and centre to a bombastic film that has some explosive, exciting action. Taylor-Joy is great, but Hemsworth truly shines in a way he hasn’t before!”
Doug Jamieson of The Jam Report has some significant critiques for the movie, which made it a mixed bag for him, “There’s a lot to admire about #FURIOSA. It’s gorgeously shot and the action sequences are mind-blowing. Anya Taylor-Joy is sensational and Chris Hemsworth chews every piece of scenery in sight. But the narrative lags considerably and the CGI is often ghastly. A mixed bag for me.”
Bill Bria of SlashFilm says that the film is myth-making at its finest, “LADY AND GENTLEMENS: #Furiosa is myth making at its finest. The most sprawling Mad Max Saga entry returns to the series’ roots: it’s a powerful, moving, gritty tale of revenge in the middle of a world gone wild. Also: windsurfing bombers. Anya Taylor-Joy owns, Hemsworth kills!”
John Nguyen at NerdReactor states that it’s one of the most brutal Mad Max films yet, “#furiosa is 2-and-a-half hours of colorful mayhem. Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne both get their fair share of screen time as the title character. Chris Hemsworth is like a villainous Thor with his red cape and long hair. It’s one of the most brutal Mad Max films yet.”
Dr Luke Buckmaster also had issues with the narrative, which didn’t hinder his enjoyment of the action, but it rather became his saving grace, “It’s clear very soon that #Furiosa is no Fury Road. The timing is off, the structure shaggy. It’s a little shambolic – but out of a chaotic wasteland comes some characteristically (for George) visceral, dust-baked action, and a memorable showdown between Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy”
Peter Gray of The AU Review also glows about Hemsworth, saying he proves himself as a character actor here, “Now that I can say so, #Furiosa is a BLAST! Made in the spirit of FURY ROAD, it’s still its own beast that thrives on exaggerated action and characters. Anya Taylor-Joy makes the character her own, but this is Chris Hemsworth’s chance to prove his worth as a character actor.”
therese lacson also found issues with the pacing. Miller would seemingly attempt to distance this film from Mad Max’s tales by segmenting its story, “I would and could easily watch 15 hours of Anya Taylor Joy and Alyla Browne as #Furiosa, however much of her film struggles with inconsistent pacing due to the segmented story. This won’t match up to Fury Road’s splendor but it also doesn’t need to. #IMAX”
Erik Davis teases a War Rig sequence that blew his mind, “George Miller’s #Furiosa is powerhouse action filmmaking at its absolute best! A ferocious & relentlessly paced epic that expands the story of Furiosa and the Wasteland while delivering the craziest chases, the most bombastic characters & just plain stunning cinematography. Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth equally dive all the way into the Wasteland, and both deliver some incredible stuff. There’s one War Rig sequence that blew my mind – an instant classic. I love the #MadMax movies and I loved this film. Start your engines!”
Overall, it sounds like Furiosa is a blast, even if it seems to not be quite at the level of Fury Road. Then again, would that have even been possible? Look for full Furiosa reviews closer to the Cannes premiere.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will hit theaters on May 24th. FilmRatings.com reports the movie has been “Rated R for sequences of strong violence, and grisly images.“

A24 may be looking to ki-ki-ki Friday the 13th, as their planned series, Crystal Lake, seems to be treading water. Come on, A24, you were supposed to be paying attention to Jason!
As per Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, “I’m hearing that A24 has pulled the plug on Crystal Lake, its planned Peacock series based on the Friday the 13th franchise featuring masked killer Jason Voorhees. Bryan Fuller was due to executive produce the horror series. It’s unclear whether this is a permanent decision or a temporary one, as A24 had no comment. Perhaps Peacock will help the trades shed more light on this project, which was announced back in 2022.”
For horror fans, Crystal Lake had so much potential in doing justice to the Friday the 13th franchise. The series has been in a virtual lull for 15 years now (oh come on, you didn’t like that game, did you?), with no new movie since that awful Platinum Dunes reboot attempt. After an extensive legal battle left original writer Victor Miller with the rights, that then gave the opportunity for Crystal Lake showrunner Bryan Fuller cart blanche to throw pretty much anything – and anyone – from the franchise into the mix. As he put it, “A24 and [IP attorney] Marc Toberoff, have beautifully and excruciatingly assembled all of the Friday the 13th rights. As a streaming series, we have the rights to do everything underneath the Friday the 13th umbrella.”
As such, Adrienne King – who played “final girl” Alice Hardy – was directly tied to the project. Crystal Lake was also basically already confirmed for two seasons right off the bat, with the first intended to begin filming this summer.
With Chucky proving to be a hit for Peacock, no doubt horror fans would have latched onto Crystal Lake as well. What would have made this series stand out more, however, is that it was designed to be a “pre-remake-uel”, with much focus being put on both Jason and Pamela Voorhees. There, too, would be a wealth of kills that would keep us – and those horny camp counselors – coming back for more week after week.
How do you feel about Crystal Lake possibly being killed by A24? Did the series have potential? Give us your thoughts below.
Artificial intelligence is here to stay, and if SAG-AFTA thought they could silence AI once the strike settled, they’ve got another thing coming. One of the major talking points of last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike — which lasted from July to November — was the threat of AI within the industry. And while it has been just under six months since the strike ended, the topic is once again at the forefront.
The next focus for SAG-AFTRA is negotiations for the 2026 contract, which is already on the table as far as discussion goes. At a recent event, Lisa Powell — executive vice president of SAG-AFTRA — confirmed that one of the key matters at hand will indeed be AI, which they claimed a small but vital win over during the contract settlement last fall. “We’re watching A.I., we’ve got a lot of legislation going on to try and cover some of the loopholes in A.I. but I think we’re also going to watch how that technology develops and be ready to make any changes or tweaks or additions that need to be made. There’s some that we left on the table that that we’re going to go back and try again.”
As for whether or not SAG-AFTRA has a stronghold on AI, Powell remains confident, saying, “The exciting thing is that I feel like we’re in a more powerful position because of having a struck that [the studios] take us very seriously now, as they should. There’s a sense among membership that we can push the envelope a little more, and it’ll bend.”
Studies have been done over just what sort of impact AI will have in Hollywood. Even as soon as two weeks after SAG-AGTRA ended their strike, AI was the focus of one study that estimated that the instead could see upwards of 200,000 jobs lost to the technology. Adding to this, a more recent poll pointed to nearly half of those within the film and television industries feel that artificial intelligence is ultimately harmful to their professions. Not surprisingly, the vast majority do feel that proper regulations need to be put in order.
Undoubtedly this should play into any of SAG-AFTRA’s future negotiations over AI. That they are keeping a close eye on the developing technology and adapting as artificial intelligence does is also quite wise, as even the slightest advancements could make their actions and progress moot if they put ink to paper too quickly.
Do you think SAG-AFTRA can ever truly settle on their position on AI? Or will any negotiations always feel out of date so long as the tech is advancing?

Jar Jar Binks is one of the more reviled characters in the entire Star Wars franchise, and while he’s largely harmless, some fans wonder if he’s not hiding something darker and more sinister. Some have even theorized that Jar Jar is secretly a Sith Lord, and the new teaser trailer for LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy definitely plays into that by giving us… Darth Jar Jar. Check out the teaser below!
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy will find the entire Star Wars Galaxy getting completely mixed up when “an ordinary nerf-herder, Sig Greebling (Gaten Matarazzo), unearths a powerful artifact from a hidden Jedi temple. He finds himself thrust into adventure in a new, wondrously wild and twisted version of the galaxy where good guys are bad, bad guys are good, and the fate of all depends on Sig becoming the hero who can put all the pieces back together.” Among the many changes are Rebel TIE-wings, Ewok bounty hunters, and Darth Jar Jar, who proudly declares, “Mesa gunna hurt yousa!”
In addition to Gaten Matarazzo as Sig Greebling, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy also features the voices of Tony Revolori as Dev Greebling, Bobby Moynihan as Jedi Bob, Marsai Martin as Yesi Scala, Michael Cusack as Servo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, and of course, the one and only Ahmed Best as Darth Jar Jar.
In a statement, executive producer James Waugh said: “It’s hard to believe that it’s been twenty-five years since the ground-breaking collaboration between Lucasfilm and The LEGO Group began. In that time, LEGO Star Wars has given our fans the unique power to unlock their imaginations and play with the galaxy’s elements in any way they can conceive… and build. It’s with that playful spirit in mind that we set out to ‘Rebuild the Galaxy’ like never before. Tapping into the comedic genius of Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, two of the most talented comedy writers I’ve had the fortune of working with, we’ve mixed and matched LEGO sets to snap together Imperial X-fighters, Rebel TIE-wings, and yes, even Darth Jar Jar. This four-piece special is a celebration of all things Star Wars, LEGO, and the incredible explorations that can only happen when these two amazing brands come together.“
Showrunners and executive producers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit added: “The opportunity to work with LEGO and Lucasfilm to rebuild the galaxy has been a dream come true. We’ve been collecting LEGO Star Wars sets for twenty-five years, and we have approached this project with a fan’s enthusiasm, crafting this story quite literally brick by brick. For new fans, this will be an exciting place to enter the world of LEGO Star Wars, and for lifelong fans, you’re going to see some things that you never thought possible.“
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy will consist of four parts and will premiere on Disney+ on September 13th.
I’ll admit I doubted a third Tron movie would ever happen, but I’m thankful to be proven wrong. After kicking off production at the start of the year, Tron: Ares has wrapped production and director Joachim Rønning has shared a handful of photos on Instagram.
“That’s a wrap on TRON: ARES,” Rønning wrote. “Thanks to an incredible and tireless crew, I really believe we pushed the filmmaking limits on this movie. Even through six weeks of night shoots you never slowed down. Also, a big thank you to our wonderful cast for leaving everything on screen. I can’t wait to show the world what we’ve done.” You’ll note that some of the photos contain blurred-out elements, with one seemingly covering up a Light Cycle.
Tron: Ares “follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.” The film stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.
To the delight of Tron fans, it was confirmed last month that Jeff Bridges will also return. “I’m heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third installment of the Tron story,” Bridges said. “I’m excited about that. It’s wild. Jared Leto is the star of this third one, and I’m really anxious to work with him, and I’ve admired his work.” He also spoke about the visual effects of the last Tron movie, which found him digitally de-aged in a way that didn’t always work. “[I’m really excited] to see what the technology is going to be all about [this time],” he said. “When I did Tron: Legacy, we had to put all these dots on our face and all these kinds of things. And that’s [probably] all passé. I had to see myself as a young guy or as another character, but the same guy, but it was gonna be digitally created. I think it was [de-aging], but I didn’t like the way I looked in it; I felt like I looked more like Bill Maher than myself; it was kind of bizarre [laughs]. I’m anxious to see what the technology and what it will be. I hear there’s even less A.I. stuff in this. It’s going to be more a practical set, and they’re beautiful; there are beautiful sets that I’ve seen.“
Tron: Ares is set to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.
It’s been thirty years since Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock starred alongside one another in Jan de Bont’s classic action thriller Speed, but the pair are game to reunite for Speed 3.
During a joint interview on the 50 MPH podcast, Reeves and Bullock expressed a willingness to return for Speed 3. “I mean, you know — we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park,” Reeves said. Given the success of the first movie, the studio was keen to get a sequel off the ground, but only Bullock returned for Speed 2: Cruise Control, which was a notorious bomb in just about every respect.
Will Speed 3 actually happen? Who knows, but even if it doesn’t, the two actors are aware that they share a special chemistry and would love to work together again. “There’s no formula. It just is,” Bullock said. “Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera. Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?” Reeves added, “It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there’s something that wasn’t done. I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.“
Bullock has previously admitted that she was still embarrassed by Speed 2. “I have one [that] no one came around to and I’m still embarrassed I was in. It’s called Speed 2,” Bullock said. “I’ve been very vocal about it. Makes no sense. Slow boat. Slowly going towards an island.” Reeves was originally supposed to reprise his role for the sequel but wound up backing out due to the script. “At the time, I didn’t respond to the script,” Reeves said in 2021. “I really wanted to work with Sandra Bullock, I loved playing Jack Traven, and I loved ‘Speed,’ but an ocean liner? I had nothing against the artists involved, but at that time I had the feeling it just wasn’t right.” Jason Patric stepped in to replace Reeves as the male lead.
