Deadpool & Wolverine, comic costume

It’s been nearly twenty-five years since Hugh Jackman strapped on the adamantium claws for the very first X-Men movie back in 2000. He went on to play Wolverine in eight different movies, but to the disappointment of fans, he has never worn the character’s distinctive costume from the comics… until now.

At long last, Hugh Jackman will finally wear a comic-accurate costume in Deadpool & Wolverine, and the actor told Empire that he can’t believe they’ve never done it before. “We almost did it in The Wolverine,” Jackman said. “But from the moment I put it on here, I was like, ‘How did we never do this?’ It looked so right, it felt so right. I was like, ‘That’s him.’ There are different sides of Wolverine we haven’t seen before in the movies. It was exciting for me.

As Jackman mentioned, the closest fans had previously gotten to seeing the yellow costume from the comics was in a deleted alternate ending for The Wolverine. The scene found Logan opening up a box containing the costume, but he never put it on. It may have taken two decades since that first appearance on the big screen, but fans will finally get to see Wolverine in all his yellow-and-blue glory.

Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Rob Delaney as Peter. Deadpool 3 will also star Emma Corrin, who is expected to play the villain, and Matthew Macfadyen as a TVA agent. Of course, the biggest addition to the Deadpool 3 cast is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, who finally broke down after being pestered by Ryan Reynolds for so many years. The film is also expected to feature cameos from characters throughout the history of 20th Century Fox’s Marvel movies, with a few already being revealed in the trailer, including Aaron Stanford as Pyro.

Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26th, making it the only MCU movie to be released this year.

Friday Night Frights

Here on the Arrow in the Head horror side of the JoBlo Network, we feel that the best way to start the weekend is by kicking back on a Friday evening to watch and discuss some horror entertainment – and that’s why TONIGHT (Friday, May 3rd) at 8 PM Eastern/5 PM Pacific, we’re launching our first horror live stream on the JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel! The channel link is HERE, and the specific link for the live stream is THIS ONE. We’re calling the live stream Friday Night Frights, and it’s the first of what should be a great new series!

The Friday Night Frights stream will be hosted by Tyler Nichols, and during this first live stream, Tyler will be talking about Chucky season 3, which just wrapped up a couple days ago (check out his interview with Brad Dourif himself), and the new horror film Tarot, which is in theatres now. Don’t expect Tyler to have many good things to say about Tarot – and you can tell from his 3/10 review, he was not a fan of this one. There will also be a surprise trailer reaction along the way.

Now that we’ve told you all about the live stream event, here’s some information on Tarot:

Best known for playing Peter Parker’s best friend Ned in the recent Spider-Man movies (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, with appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame), Jacob Batalon plays the title character in the horror comedy Syfy / Hulu / Amazon series Reginald the Vampire, and also has a lead role in Tarot. He’s joined in the cast by Avantika (Mean Girls), Adain Bradley (Wrong Turn: The Foundation), Humberly González (Ginny & Georgia), Wolfgang Novogratz (The Last Summer), Harriet Slater (Pennyworth), Olwen Fouéré (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and Larsen Thompson (The Midnight Club).

The film is based on a 1992 novel by Nicholas Adams (pick up a copy HERE) that was called Horrorscope. Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen wrote the screenplay adaptation and made their feature directorial debut with Tarot, which follows a group of college friends who after getting their horoscopes read, begin dying in ways connected to their fortunes. Are their fates fatal or can they change what’s written in the stars?

A collaboration between Screen Gems and Alloy Entertainment, Tarot was produced by Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton, along with Scott Glassgold of Ground Control. Cohen and Halberg served as executive producers. Scott Strauss, Michael Bitar, and Lariah Perara oversaw the project for Screen Gems. Cohen previously contributed to the screenplays for Extinction, Moonfall, and Expend4bles. With Halberg, he has written the upcoming movie Ivy and the podcast series Classified.

jackpot, john cena, awkwafina, paul feig

Entertainment Weekly is taking a look at the upcoming summer movies in their latest issue. One film that the publication is previewing comes from Spy and Bridesmaids director, Paul Feig. His latest action comedy is titled Jackpot, which stars John Cena, Awkwafina and Simu Liu. Jackpot will be hitting Prime Video on August 15 and EW has the first look photos from the film.

The synopsis according to Entertainment Weekly reads,
“The film follows new Los Angeles transplant Katie (Awkwafina), who accidentally finds herself with a winning lottery ticket that makes her a target in the Grand Lottery, a new contest in an economically challenged California that allows others to seize the ticket (and its prize) if they kill the winner by sundown.

When Katie joins forces with Noel (John Cena), an amateur jackpot protector, they try to survive the day, facing off against random adversaries and Louis Lewis (Simu Liu), a rival jackpot protector who wants the commission from Katie’s win for himself.”

Feig has dipped his toe in the action genre with The Heat and Spy while still being integrated with his home in comedy. However, the director expresses how much he looked forward to working on this film. He tells EW, “This is the Jackie Chan movie I always wished I could make. What I love about Jackie Chan movies is that he’s a real, everyman caught in a situation he doesn’t want to be in. He’s the master of panicked fighting versus ‘I’m cool, and I’m going to take you on.’ It’s not Bruce Lee. It’s the ‘Get away from me, get away from me’ type of action. I don’t like mayhem and action for action’s sake. It always has to advance the plot, be character-driven, and find the humor in people who aren’t normally in these situations getting in these situations — and how they get themselves out of it.”

The director of such comedies as The Office and Freaks and Geeks also emphasized that the action comes from a fun place, but it’s still taken seriously. He expounded, “It is very fun and ridiculous, but you’re still worried for them because the stakes are real. But you’re never going, like, ‘That’s upsetting.’ I want to keep an elegance about it all and make it fun, but at the same time, I don’t like action comedies where the villain is silly, and everybody is silly. The stakes have to be real. There has to be real danger. It has to be very believable characters, and then you put them in an extreme situation.”
