Fantastic Four, Paul Walter Hauser

Paul Walter Hauser loves to work, and Deadline reports that the actor’s latest gig will see him joining the cast of Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie.

It’s not known who Paul Walter Hauser will play in the Fantastic Four movie, but he will be joining a cast which includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic; Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, and Julia Garner as the Shalla-Bal version of the Silver Surfer.

Hauser has quite a few projects on his slate. In addition to Fantastic Four, he also recently joined the cast of the Naked Gun reboot starring Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, and Kevin Durand, and he’s also set to star as Chris Farley in an upcoming biopic about the iconic Saturday Night Live comedian directed by Josh Gad.

The Fantastic Four will launch Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is set to be directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision) from a script by Eric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer. Production is slated to kick off this summer, and Shakman has teased that the movie will be unlike anything we’ve seen from Marvel so far. “It’s different in so many ways,” Shakman said. “I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.Fantastic Four will hit theaters on July 25, 2025.

Hauser will next be seen, or rather heard, voicing Embarrassment in Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which hits theaters on June 14th. He will also star alongside Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, and Hong Chau in The Instigators, a heist thriller directed by Doug Liman. The film will hit theaters on August 2nd before streaming on Apple TV+ on August 9th.

Ronda Rousey, Netflix, biopic

Former UFC champion and WWE star Ronda Rousey is going from the mats to the writers’ room for an adaptation of her memoirs on Netflix. According to Deadline, Rousey is grappling with screenwriting to create a biopic based on her books, My Fight/Your Fight and Our Fight, which she co-wrote with her sister, Maria Burns Ortiz. Chernin Entertainment could produce, but details about their pact with Netflix remain in limbo.

Initially, Paramount was going to enter the Octagon with Rousey after snagging the rights to her first book, but after the studio played musical chairs with high-ranking positions, the rights lapsed, and Netflix pinned them down. Rousey’s books delve deeper into her personal and professional journey, detailing her struggle with suicidal ideation after her first loss to Holly Holm and raising awareness about the concussions she’d suffered before her MMA career. The text also investigates her complicated relationship with coach Edmond Tarverdyan.

Rousey teamed up with Adam Novak, a veteran executive in WME’s story group, to sharpen her writing skills. Novak would send Rousey scripts, evaluate her work, and provide detailed notes about improving her talents with the pen. Rousey reviewed and learned from dozens of scripts while informing herself about screenwriting structure, story design, and screenplay adaptation. Reports say Rousey was then challenged to write a script about her life and did so in seven days, an astonishing feat, to be specific.

When the opportunity presented itself, Rousey’s agents sent Netflix a coverless treatment to discourage bias about Rousey’s identity and screenwriting talent. Netflix executives reportedly pounced on the package (hey-o) and began planning to help tell Rousey’s story.

While Rousey was originally going to star in the biopic, she plans to stick to the writing end of the gig and let someone else enter the arena. Casting for the project begins soon.

What do you think about Ronda Rousey trying her hand at screenwriting? Are you interested in seeing her story play out on Netflix? Who do you think should play Rousey in the biopic? Feel free to share some suggestions in the comments section below.

We look forward to seeing who you think would be a great fit.

Louis Leterrier Fast X

Louis Leterrier has directed the action films The Transporter, Transporter 2, Unleashed, and Fast X, the action comedies The Brothers Grimsby and The Takedown, the mystery thriller Now You See Me, the fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans, and the comic book adaptation The Incredible Hulk (not to mention the TV shows The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Lupin), and over the decades his films have racked up $2 billion at the box office. Now he’s set to direct and produce the film 11817working from a screenplay by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying), which will see him venturing into the sci-fi horror realm.

11817 will show us what happens when inexplicable forces trap a family of four inside their house indefinitely. As both modern luxuries and life or death essentials begin to run out, the family must learn how to be resourceful to survive and outsmart who – or what – is keeping them trapped…

Leterrier had this to say about the project: “Directing projects where the audience gets behind the characters has always been my focus. However complex, flawed, heroic, we identify with them as we live through their journey. It’s what excites me about 11817’s wholly original concept and the family at the heart of our story. This is an experience that movie audiences won’t forget.

The film is coming our way from Leterrier’s Carrousel Studios, Rocket Science, Thank You Studios, Chernin Entertainment (A North Road Company), and 3 Arts Entertainment. Rocket Science is financing and will handle foreign sales, while CAA Media Finance represents the North American rights. Leterrier will be producing alongside Thomas Benski and Omar Sy for Carrousel Studios, as well as Lars Sylvest for Thank You Studios, Kori Adelson for Chernin Entertainment, Oly Obst of 3 Arts Entertainment, Thorsten Schumacher for Rocket Science, and Joe Neurauter. Cecile Gaget serves as an executive producer for Carrousel Studios.

Jordan Peele is dusting off his ten-gallon hat and sharpening his spurs for a potentially powerful docuseries about Black cowboys of the Wild West. Peele’s goal with his new project is to change the public perception of the Old West and the people who contributed to its identity. The docuseries is getting set up at Peacock, with Peele executive producing. Reports say the project aims to “dismantle the whitewashed mythology of the cowboy” and elaborate on themes featured in Peele’s 2022 invasion thriller Nope.

Peele is teaming up with By Whatever Means Necessary: The Times of Godfather of Harlem’s Keith McQuirter, who joins the untitled Black cowboy docuseries as showrunner and executive producer.

Here’s the official description for Jordan Peele’s Black cowboy docuseries:

“The untitled Black cowboy docuseries will rewrite a foundational piece of American history, unmasking the forces that erased the identity of the Black cowboy from frontier history and present. Stories of real cowboys will take viewers on a thrilling odyssey that connects to the heart of the resurgence of Black cowboy culture that we see today across music, art, fashion and film in a three-part series to premiere on Peacock.”

Cinematic stories about Black cowboys have risen in Hollywood, with Peele’s Nope being a recent highlight. Other titles that come to mind include Ricky Staub’s 2020 drama Concrete Cowboy, starring Idris Elba and Caleb McLaughlin as an estranged father and son reconnecting in a Philadelphia community of Black cowboys. 2012’s Django Unchained could find itself moseying along the genre. Still, Jeymes Samuel’s The Harder They Fall is undoubtedly a rough ride with Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, RJ Cyler, Edi Gathegi, Chase Dillon, DeWanda Wise, and Danielle Deadwyler leading the cast.

Nope gave a nod to the deep history of Black cowboys in America, and this docuseries offers a full exploration of their lives and contributions to today’s cultural landscape. Told through the singular lens of Jordan Peele, this series is every bit as entertaining as it is enriching. It’s been a thrill for UTAS to collaborate with Jordan, Monkeypaw, Keith and the team on what is a truly special project, and we’re excited to share it with fans,” said Universal Studio Group chairman Pearlena Igbokwe.

I’ll be interested in following Peele for his Black cowboy docuseries when it moseys onto Peacock. How about you?
