In Apple’s Presumed Innocent teaser trailer, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Rusty Sabich paints with a broad brush, making adultery sound like a fairytale in which the wolf wins, and love conquers all. Anyone who discovers their spouse leading a double life will tell you differently, and Rusty’s about to find out what it feels like when the wool gets pulled over his eyes. Today, Apple TV+ dropped a steamy and intense-looking teaser for Presumed Innocent, the limited series coming to the streaming service courtesy of David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams.

Here’s the official synopsis for Presumed Innocent:

“Gyllenhaal is set to star as Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor whose world is upended when a close colleague is murdered — and the evidence begins to point to Rusty himself. The role would be his first ongoing part in a TV series. Presumed Innocent was previously adapted for a 1990 feature film that starred Harrison Ford as Sabich, along with Bonnie Bedelia and Raul Julia. Kelley’s version will be a reimagining of Turow’s novel that will explore, per the show’s logline, ‘obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”

“Love isn’t what people tell you that it is,” Gyllenhaal’s Rusty says in the Presumed Innocent teaser trailer. “In my experience, it’s just something that grows until one day you just find yourself needing someone.” As the footage plays, visions of Rusty canoodling with his mistress reflect a saucy dalliance that quickly spirals out of control, bordering on obsession. Rusty’s reality cracks as the wheel turns, resulting in defiance, destabilization, and death.

Inspired by the Alan J. Pakula-directed thriller of the same name, the original film starred Harrison Ford, Raul Julia, and Greta Scacchi. The newest version of Presumed Innocent hails from David E. Kelley (The Lincoln LawyerBig ShotGoliath) and J.J. Abrams (Lost, Super 8Star Trek), with Gyllenhaal and Ruth Negga commanding the drama.

Presumed Innocent revolves around a vicious murder that sends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office reeling when one of their representatives becomes a suspect in the crime. Kelley’s version is said to investigate themes of obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love as the accused fights to keep aspects of their life from falling apart.

Jake Gyllenhaal plays Rusty Sabich in the new series, the role previously played by Harrison Ford in the 1990 thriller. Ruth Negga will play Barbara Sabich, an artist, gallerist, mother, and wife whose life is upended when her husband, Rusty, is accused of murdering his mistress. Throughout the ordeal, Barbara wrestles with the fallout of her husband’s misdeeds, striving to keep her family close and heal her broken heart.

Kelley,  an actual attorney, wrote the series and serves as an executive producer and showrunner. Additionally, Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich are executive producers for Bad Robot. Matthew Tinker executive produces through David E. Kelley Productions, with Gyllenhaal, Dustin Thomason, and Sharr White executive producing. Turow and Miki Johnson co-executive produce. Finally, Anne Sewitsky is directing and executive producing the first two episodes.

Presumed Innocent comes to order on Apple TV+ on June 12.

There is a lot of hype surrounding this month’s The Fall Guy, and considering it’s a tribute to the world of cinematic stunt work, it’s no surprise that Tuesday’s Los Angeles premiere pulled through, with stuntmen jumping through glass and leaping off balconies to dazzle the crowd before the movie even started. But Ryan Gosling had his own moment, reprising his runaway rendition of Beavis (to Mikey Day’s Butt-Head), bringing the metalhead slackers to one place you’d never expect to see them.

Appearing at The Fall Guy’s premiere, Gosling and Day stepped out as the characters, dressed from enormous head to toe just as they were on Saturday Night Live last month – although it is still a little bothersome that their Beavis and Butt-Head are in shirts that say “Death Rock” and “Skull”, since Beavis would always rock a Metallica shirt and Butt-Head would have on an AC/DC tee. It should be noted that Ryan Gosling didn’t spend his entire The Fall Guy red carpet time dressed as Beavis, as prior to that, he did step out in more appropriate digs…

The original SNL sketch was an immediate part of the highlight reel for the 49th season. It began with a discussion between Heidi Gardner’s news host and Kenan Thompson’s expert professor on the prominence of artificial intelligence. But the sketch quickly veered when it was revealed that somebody in the audience (Gosling) looked remarkably like cartoon character Beavis, something that distracted Thompson’s character enough where Beavis had to be removed…only to have his spot filled with a spot-on Butt-Head (Day).

The Beavis and Butt-Head sketch was one of the most memorable moments from Gosling’s April 13th hosting gig, which also found him starring in a sequel to the 2017 “Papyrus” video, which saw his character becoming disturbed that Avatar would use the namesake font for its title.

Speaking at the premiere, Ryan Gosling was far more intellectual and insightful than Beavis, saying, “Obviously this a love letter to the stunt community, they are the hardest-working people in show business. They risk more than anyone. This movie is just a giant campaign to get stunts an Oscar,” referring to the so-far failed one to recognize stunt work at the Academy Awards. He added, “I don’t know what to say, how do you say thank you to someone that got set on fire eight times for you, jumped from a helicopter, rolled a car eight times for you — this is just such an example of what they do for us, what they contribute to cinema, what they risk for all of us. It’s really been an honor to be a part of something that tells your story in some small way.” The Fall Guy opens on May 3rd.

Were you a fan of Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day’s Beavis and Butt-Head sketch? Will you be checking out The Fall Guy on opening weekend?

Ed Harris

Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), and Ed Harris (The Truman Show) are set to star in the revenge thriller Huntington for writer/director John Patton Ford, and Deadline reports that A24 has just boarded the project to handle its domestic distribution.

Drawing inspiration from the 1949 crime comedy Kind Hearts and Coronets, Huntington will see Powell taking on the role of Becket Redfellow, the heir to a multi-billion-dollar fortune who will stop at nothing to get what he deserves… Or what he thinks he deserves. Kind Hearts and Coronets told the following story: When Louis D’Ascoyne Mazzini, who hails from a royal family, is denied dukedom, he plans to kill all the potential threats in his way.

Kind Hearts and Coronets is in the Studiocanal library, and the company is fully financing this take on the concept. Studiocanal’s EVP Global Production Ron Halpern and SVP Global Production Joe Naftalin are overseeing the project with Pete Czernin and Graham Broadbent of Blueprint Pictures. Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh provided this statement: “We are thrilled to be working closely again with our friends at A24 and Blueprint in bringing this incredibly special project to life. John has assembled a dream array of on-screen talent in the extraordinary Glen Powell, Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris, with others to be announced very soon. We can’t wait to begin filming, and to share this wildly entertaining thriller with audiences around the world next year!

John Patton Ford previously wrote and directed the 2022 mystery Emily the Criminal, which starred Aubrey Plaza in the title role and got an 8/10 review from JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray that you can read HERE.

What do you think of Ford taking the helm of a remake of Kind Hearts and Coronets that will star Glen Powell, Margaret Qualley, and Ed Harris? Share your thoughts on Huntington by leaving a comment below.

With a prominent role in Top Gun: Maverick, the success of the rom-com Anyone but You, the good reviews he’s gotten for the upcoming film Hit Man, and the major release of Twisters on the way, Powell (who was recently cast to star in Edgar Wright’s take on The Running Man) is a star on the rise, so Huntington has landed him at just the right time.

Hype can kill a great moviegoing experience. And frankly, there was a lot of hype even before I stepped into David Leitch’s take on the classic series, The Fall Guy. Thankfully, this time, it’s beyond well warranted. Starring the ridiculously charismatic Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, this love letter to the amazing world of stuntwork shines. The action is predictably glorious – it’s David Leitch, the man excels at this – and the performances are perfection. It’s that rare cinematic treat that manages to do nearly everything well, and it works. Whether or not you are familiar with the cool as hell Lee Majors series (1981-86), you will fall for Leitch’s amazing work.

A couple of weeks back, I had the incredible chance to step onto the sound stages of Universal Studios. I was there to speak with the cast and director about their latest. First up was Mr. Leitch. I can’t say enough about what a great guy he is. We talked about the references in the new film, one of which was especially fitting for my viewing experience. He discussed finding the right balance a humor and heart, without letting up on the brilliant stunt work and action set pieces.

Next up, we talked with co-stars Hannah Waddingham and Winston Duke and it was yet another treat. The two talked about working on a set with Leitch, and building grounded, yet entertaining characters. Both of these actors are terrific in the film. In fact, Hannah is so good in the movie, I was half expecting her to be drinking the same beverage during the interview as the person she plays in the film. She did not. In fact, she is about as far from that as possible. These two were terrific.

And finally, I made my way to my final interview with Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling. While waiting for Ms. Blunt, I had the chance to speak off camera with Mr. Gosling. Having had the pleasure before, the man is one of the nicest guys you could ever talk to. As is his wonderful co-star. The two talked about taking on this fantastic film. For Emily, she talked about playing out the real life stakes portraying an up-and-coming director. And Ryan talked about his experiences with stuntmen throughout his career. It’s hard to imagine a more pleasant couple of actors to sit down with, as Gosling and Blunt are lovely people on-screen and off.

The Fall Guy is one of the most engaging and thrilling movies so far this year. It’s the kind of big budget tale that will likely find the same success as Top Gun and Barbie. You all are going to dig this (check out our review HERE).

Red Notice, Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, Samba TV, Netflix

It was recently revealed in a bombshell report that Dwayne Johnson has been allegedly showcasing unprofessional behavior by being excessively late to film productions. The article from The Wrap has made claims that Johnson would show up as late as eight hours while filming his most recent project, the Christmas-themed Red One. This tardiness issue reportedly contributed to the budget as it spiraled to over $250 million. According to the insiders quoted in the report, this cost the production at least $50 million. “It was a f***ing disaster,” the insider said. “Dwayne truly doesn’t give a f***.” However, other sources say that Johnson was never more than an hour late to set and a spokesperson for Amazon MGM flat-out denied any issues.

This production was not an isolated incident, it seems. According to the report from The Wrap, Johnson exhibited more of this behavior on the Netflix action comedy, Red Notice. In the fall of 2020, when the film was in principal photography, his co-star, Ryan Reynolds, had gotten incredibly infuriated with him after he had waited five hours for Johnson to show up. Insiders say when Johnson finally reached the set long after calltime, the two had a “huge fight,” and Johnson stormed off the set. The co-stars wouldn’t speak to each other for years until they recently buried the hatchet. However, a sequel was greenlit by Netflix and no movement on it has yet been made. Netflix responded with a rep stating, “Dwayne is the consummate professional and we’re thrilled to have worked with him on Red Notice, our #1 film.”

Other crew members on the film claimed that while the production set strict protocols for COVID, Johnson would break the quarantine rules and fly home in a private jet. An insider says, “He was frequently flying home and breaking the extremely strict rules of the bubble.” Johnson, who consistently updates fans on his social media, made a post on Instagram about his intense 14-hour workday, which he then deleted. However, the IATSE Stories Instagram account reposted it, calling him out with a crew member commenting, “He got to host family and friends for a BBQ, and wound up getting COVID anyway. Most selfish thing I’ve ever seen an actor do.” Although, another source close to the production would defend the Black Adam star, saying, “Nothing he did was in violation of COVID protocols.”
