It looks like Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two is trying to get rid of its indie label, Private Division. This is according to a new IGN report that details how the company’s recent studio closures and mismanagement have been “quietly killing” the indie publisher.
There was talk that Brotherhood of the Wolf and Silent Hill director Christophe Gans’ new Silent Hill movie Return to Silent Hill, which is said to be “totally independent from the two previous movies,” would be having its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, but that’s not exactly what happened. What actually happened was that there was a private screening of the film for potential distributors. We don’t know how that went, but we are benefiting from the film’s search for distributors. The first image made its way online a couple weeks ago (that can be seen above), and now a teaser trailer has made its way online. You can check that out right here:
Gans directed the 2006 version of Silent Hill from a screenplay he wrote with Roger Avary and Nicolas Boukhrief, and directed this new film from a screenplay he wrote with Sandra Vo-Anh and Will Schneider. Based on the video game Silent Hill 2, Return to Silent Hill follows James, a man broken after being separated from his one true love. When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and hold on long enough to save his lost love.
The film stars Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) and Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw).
Return to Silent Hill was produced by Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, and David Wulf. When the project was heading into production, Gans provided the following statement: “Return to Silent Hill is a mythological love story about someone so deeply in love, they’re willing to go to Hell to save someone. I’m delighted to have the wonderful talents of both Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson take us on this journey into a psychological horror world that I hope will both satisfy and surprise fans of Silent Hill.“
Hadida added: “Christophe and I have been working closely with our partners at KONAMI, as they update the video game, to also create a version of Silent Hill for the theatrical audiences of today. You will still find the iconic monsters – but there will also be new designs. We are confident that this new film and KONAMI’s updated game together will propel the Silent Hill franchise forward for years to come.“

Things aren’t looking good for me. I’m a few levels into Selaco, a new FPS out now on Steam, and I’m stuck behind a bar as a group of sci-fi soldiers unload their rifles and shotguns into my hiding spot. I’m also low on health. So yeah, a bad spot to be in. I take a deep breath and try something.

The New Batman Animated Adventures isn’t the only bat-related animated project that has been sliding down a bat pole shortly. On Thursday, Warner Bros. Japan announced a sequel to the 2018 animated film Batman Ninja, called Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League. The upcoming sequel finds Batman voice actor Koichi Yamadera reprising his role from Batman Ninja, with artists and crew returning, including Kamikaze Douga, the animator behind the CG anime opening themes for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. WB plans to announce more details about Batman Ninja 2 at the Anime Expo 2024 on July 4.
Batman Ninja finds the Dark Knight and his extended family members in feudal Japan, facing off against extreme versions of the Caped Crusader’s rogues gallery. Here’s the official synopsis for Batman Ninja:
Here’s the official synopsis: Batman Ninja takes a journey across the ages as Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine transports many of Batman’s worst enemies to feudal Japan – along with the Dark Knight and a few of his allies. The villains take over the forms of the feudal lords that rule the divided land, with the Joker taking the lead among the warring factions. As his traditional high-tech weaponry is exhausted almost immediately, Batman must rely on his intellect and his allies – including Catwoman and the extended Bat-family – to restore order to the land, and return to present-day Gotham City.
Also coming to WB’s Anime Expo 2024 presentation is Suicide Squad: ISEKAI, with original character designs by Akira Amano (Psycho-Pass, Kamonohashi Ron No Kidan Suiri) and scripts by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara. Here’s the official synopsis:
In the crime-ridden city of Gotham, Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., has assembled a group of notorious criminals for a mission: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark. These Super-Villains are sent into an otherworldly realm that’s connected to this world through a gate. It’s a world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies—an “ISEKAI”!
With lethal explosives planted in their necks, there’s no running or hiding, and failing the mission means a one-way ticket to the afterlife! Can Harley Quinn and her crew conquer this perilous ISEKAI realm?! Brace yourselves for the pulse-pounding saga of the elite task force known as the “Suicide Squad” as they embark on a jaw-dropping adventure!
Anna Nagase voices Harley Quinn, Yuuichirou Umehara plays the Joker, Reigo Yamaguchi voices Deadshot, Jun Fukuyama plays Clayface, Taku Yashiro voices Rick Flag, Kujira plays Amanda Waller, and Reina Ueda voices Fione.
Plot details for Batman Ninja 2, or Batman Ninja versus Yakuza League, if you’re nasty, remain a mystery. However, fans can expect lots of bone-snapping action as Batman and members of the Bat-family square off against a collection of vile villains in a gorgeously animated thrill ride of epic proportion. We’re excited to learn more in July and will report back shortly.
We found out last year that the 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat, one of my all-time favorite movies, will be getting a Blu-ray and 4K UHD release from Synapse Films. They were originally aiming for a Halloween 2023 release, but since they missed that month they’re now aiming to get the Blu-ray and 4K out into the world by Halloween 2024 – and things are looking promising, as the case art and list of special features have now revealed!
And the list of special features was announced on a Spooky Picture Show livestream. Here’s what fans have to look forward to seeing and hearing:
– Brand new 4K restoration from the original camera negative approved by the original DOP – 3 Discs (4K Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray, original soundtrack CD licensed by Sony) – 3 different thick chipboard slipcases to choose from with new artwork on each, with Vinegar Syndrome style slip sleeves over the Criterion-style disc case itself featuring the original theatrical artwork on one side and UK quad art on the other side – “Rock and Shock” feature length documentary – Tribute to Sammi Curr actor Tony Fields, interviews with family/friends, never before seen photos, etc. – 3 audio commentary tracks: one with the director, one with audio interviews with producer and writer, and one commentary track about Satanic Panic hysteria – 5.1 audio remix, 2.0 track, original stereo track as well – a still photo gallery so large, it takes 25 minutes to go through – original Fastway music video for “After Midnight” licensed by Sony – Horror’s Hallowed Grounds video, hosted by Sean Clark – Trailers, TV spots, radio spots – Original electronic press kit – 60-page booklet with liner notes, essays, pictures, etc. – 6 double sided postcards – Fold-out poster of the original theatrical one-sheet on one side, and a replica of the Sammi Curr autographed poster from Eddie’s bedroom wall on the other side
Directed by Charles Martin Smith from a screenplay by Rhet Topham, Joel Soisson, and Michael S. Murphey (with an uncredited polish from the Final Destination duo of James Wong and Glen Morgan), Trick or Treat has the following synopsis: This mesmerizing horror adventure takes you into the terrifying dark side of rock’n’roll. Marc Price (Family Ties) stars as Eddie Weinbauer, a teenage outcast who idolizes Sammi Curr, a heavy metal rock superstar. After Sammi dies a violent death, his spirit returns to help Eddie get even with his high school tormentors. In doing so, Sammi begins to gain control over Eddie’s life and brings him deeper into the world of the occult. When Eddie realizes that he has become the tool of Sammi’s evil revenge, he attempts to stop him. The horrifying events that follow leave no one unscathed.
Marc Price is joined in the cast by Lisa Orgolini, Doug Savant, Elaine Joyce, and Glen Morgan, with Tony Fields as Sammi Curr and special appearances by Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons.
Trick or Treat has been a favorite of mine since I was a little kid, and this Blu-ray and 4K release of it sounds amazing to me. I will definitely be adding a copy of this to my collection. Will you be adding it to your collection? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
In 2006, you could scarcely go a day without someone shouting, “This is Sparta!” in your face. The iconic line by Gerard Butler’s King Leonidas in Zack Snyder’s 300became a battle cry for anyone looking to punt an irritant off a cliff. Out of sight. Out of mind. According to sources, a 300 TV series is developing at Warner Bros. TV. It’s early days for what Deadline says could be a prequel to the 2006 film, and fans are already theorizing about the plot, which is unknown. While deals are not in place, we hear Zack and Deborah Snyder could reunite with Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, Bernie Goldmann, and Wesley Coller of Stone Quarry for the newly announced project.
Zack Snyder directed and co-wrote 300 with Kurt Johnstad and Michael B. Gordon. That’s Gordon, not Jordan. Based on the 1998 comic book series by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, 300 explores a fictionalized Thermopylae battle where King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fight against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. They face insurmountable odds when a Spartan reject betrays them. The film stars Gerard Butler as King Leonidas, Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo, David Wenham as Dilios, Dominic West as Theron, Michael Fassbender as Stelios, Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes, and more.
300 banked $456M+ at the worldwide box office, paving the way for a sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire. Directed by Noam Murro from a script by Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad, the 2014 follow-up focuses on the Greek general Themistocles of Athens, who leads the naval charge against invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy. Sullivan Stapleton leads the film as Themistocles, with Eva Green playing Artemisia. Lena Headey, David Wenham, and Rodrigo Santoro reprise their roles, with Hans Matheson, Callan Mulvey, Jack O’Connell, Andrew Tiernan, and Igal Naor joining the cast.
What do you think about WB developing a 300 TV series? Will the show retain the stylish look of the films? Do you hope to see some of your favorite characters, or should they introduce a new cast of warriors and villains? Let us know in the comments section below.
There’s just over a month left until Dawntrail, the next expansion for Square Enix’s hit MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, releases in early access. Yet we still don’t know too much about the next chapter of the game, beyond it being a kind of summer vacation for players. That mystery is intentional, as the story is a big…
