The cast of the next Knives Out movie is starting to come together. Shortly after the title was officially announced — Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery — it was revealed that Josh O’Connor (Challengers) and Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus) had signed on, and Variety has reported that Andrew Scott (Ripley) has joined the cast as well.
As expected, details on who Andrew Scott is playing in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery are being kept under wraps, but he’s a welcome addition to what will surely be a stand-out ensemble cast. Daniel Craig will obviously reprise his role as Benoit Blanc, with the film teased to send the detective off on his “most dangerous case yet.“
Rian Johnson will return to direct Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery from a script he wrote and will produce the project alongside Ram Bergman through their T-Street Productions banner. Production is expected to kick off next month with a 2025 release on Netflix.
Once again, the sequel contains “A Knives Out Mystery” in the title, which Johnson didn’t love the last time around with Glass Onion. “I’ve tried hard to make them self-contained. Honestly, I’m pissed off that we have A Knives Out Mystery in the title,” the director told The Atlantic in 2022. “I want it to just be called Glass Onion. I get it, and I want everyone who liked the first movie to know this is next in the series, but also, the whole appeal to me is it’s a new novel off the shelf every time. But there’s a gravity of a thousand suns toward serialized storytelling.“
Andrew Scott was recently seen starring in Ripley on Netflix. The series follows Tom Ripley, “a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son Dickie Greenleaf to return home. Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder.” It remains to be seen if there will be a second season, but Scott is open to it after he’s had a break. After a rough launch in late 2020, numerous updates, a popular anime spin-off, and a big DLC expansion, Cyberpunk 2077 no longer has anybody working on it, which might be the first time in a decade that was true at CD Projekt Red.

The 2017 version of The Mummy was supposed to kick off a new cinematic universe at Universal Pictures – a Dark Universe that would consist of interconnected reboots of their classic monster properties. Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Creature from the Black Lagoon, they were all coming back, and they were all going to be crossing paths with each other. The crossovers had even started in The Mummy, with the appearance of Dr. Jekyll (and Mr. Hyde) and nods to other monsters. But Universal pumped so much money into The Mummy, its global box office haul of $410 million was considered a disappointment. The studio has since moved forward with a reboot of The Invisible Man, a couple new Dracula movies (Renfield and The Last Voyage of the Demeter), a Dracula’s Daughter movie (Abigail), and a reboot of Wolf Man (which is now filming), but none of these movies have been connected to each other, and there’s been no talk of further Mummy adventures… until today. Industry scooper Daniel Richtman has revealed on his Patreon account that a prequel to The Mummy is now in the works!
Here’s what Richtman said: “The Mummy PREQUEL movie now in development at Universal with Wes Tooke writing the script.“
That’s all the information we have to go on at this time. Richtman didn’t even specify which Mummy movie this project might be a prequel to. It seems unlikely that Universal would return to the story of their Dark Universe killer from 2017, so this probably isn’t going to dig into the history of Sofia Boutella’s Ahmanet character. So will it be a prequel to the 1932 original? The 1999 film starring Brendan Fraser? Since Fraser has been enjoying a career resurgence in recent years, including an Oscar win for his performance in The Whale, some fans have been hoping we might see him return to the Mummy franchise for a fourth film, following The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. (There were plans for a film called The Mummy: Rise of the Aztec at one point, but that was scrapped in favor of the Dark Universe idea.) But since this is a prequel of some kind, we probably won’t be seeing Brendan Fraser back in the role of Rick O’Connell.
Screenwriter Wes Tooke only has a few credits to his name: an episode of Jean-Claude Van Johnson, episodes of Colony, and the 2019 Roland Emmerich film Midway. Three and a half years ago, it was announced that Tooke was working with producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller and star Channing Tatum on “a modern day, tongue in cheek thriller” that was inspired by Universal’s classic monster movies, but we never heard anything more about that project.

The fix is in, and it’s lowkey hilarious. For the first time in 15 years, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are together again for the upcoming thriller Wolfs. Today brings a Wolfs teaser trailer ahead of tomorrow’s full trailer debut, with Clooney and Pitt displaying a silent chemistry unrivaled by most Hollywood pairings.
In Apple TV+‘s Wolfs teaser trailer, George Clooney and Brad Pitt sit in awkward silence in a car with obnoxiously loud windshield wipers. As the duo wars for control of the car’s interior, glares and exasperation build an invisible wall brick by brick. The Wolfs teaser trailer is chuckle-worthy, though I’m not sure that’s the intention. Either way, seeing Clooney and Pitt mixing it up again is fantastic.
Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) directed and wrote Wolfs, which centers on two lone-wolf fixers assigned to the same job. Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Poorna Jagannathan star alongside Clooney and Pitt, and the project hails from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Whispers around Hollywood’s watercooler say Wolfs is a dark comedic thriller, though we should learn more tomorrow when the full trailer debuts.
George Clooney and Brad Pitt helped lead Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven and its two sequels, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen. Pitt’s Rusty Ryan and Clooney’s Danny Ocean light up the screen in the Ocean’s films, with the duo’s comedic timing and clever chemistry elevating the franchise to great heights. The duo can also be seen in 2008’s Burn After Reading, a quirky comedy from Joel and Ethan Coen about mysterious information from a CIA agent ending up in the hands of two unscrupulous and daft gym employees who attempt to sell it.
Are you excited to learn more about Wolfs? What do you think about today’s Wolfs teaser trailer? What’s the most awkward car ride you’ve ever experienced? I once had to drive two hours with my friend’s stepmom, who was a cop, after getting caught for underage drinking the night before. The kicker? I didn’t even drink! It was my friend. She was angry at me for “letting it happen.” Ridiculous.
