Schwarzenegger DeVito

Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger might look like an odd couple – which is exactly why Twins worked as an outlandish concept – but they’ve been pals for decades. Although their onscreen collaborations are few, they do have another project in the pipeline. Unfortunately, it doesn’t involve taking down Michael Keaton’s Batman…

Speaking with Deadline, DeVito said of his pal and a future project, “Arnold and I love working together. We’re doing a movie together next year. We’ve been working on it…Since Twins and Junior, and all the stuff we’ve done together, we’ve become friends.”

What exactly this project between Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger is remains a mystery at this point but we do know it will be set up at Warners Bros. This would further indicate it’s undoubtedly not the do-we-really-want-this? sequel to Twins (a Universal movie), which Arnold himself has said stopped because the late Ivan Reitman’s son, Jason, “f*cked it up.”

Another common bond DeVito and Arnold share is that they both tried to take down the Caped Crusader on the big screen, albeit in very different movies. But such a cool link it is that it became the show-stealing moment of this year’s Oscars. Remembering that bit – in which Michael Keaton played along brilliantly – DeVito added, “I don’t think Keaton was his Batman, but I got to try to kill Keaton, ’cause if you’ve ever met him, that’s the thing, you wanna just strangle him – only as Oswald Cobblepot.” Building off of this, DeVito went on to praise his Batman Returns co-star, saying, “If I’m honest, I love Michael. So that was totally a lot of fun, and the big highlight of the night was my tuxedo fit. It was really good to be out there with Arnold.”

Whatever the project is that DeVito mentioned, we’d love to see him and Arnold reunite on the big screen, especially after that Oscars tease. Heck, get them into the DC multiverse for a true one-off battle against Keaton – a Penguin & Mr. Freeze vs. Batman would be the showdown of the decade!

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, George R.R. Martin

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the next Games of Thrones spinoff, is coming together, and George R.R. Martin took to his blog to tease that it will have a “much different tone” from the previous shows.

The Hedge Knight will be a lot shorter than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, with a much different tone… but it’s still Westeros, so no one is truly safe,” Martin wrote. “I hope to visit the shoot come July, when I swing by Belfast on my way to the worldcon in Glasgow. The show will make its debut next year… and if it does well, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight will follow.  By which time I hope to have finished some more Dunk & Egg stories (yes, after I finish The Winds of Winter).

The official logline for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros … a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.” Peter Claffey (Vikings: Valhalla) and Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) are set to star in the series as Dunk and Egg.

Martin said most of the auditions for the series are done, with more cast announcements coming shortly. The author added that Owen Harris, who directed the San Junipero episode of Black Mirror, will helm three of the six episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is written and executive produced by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker, with Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw also executive producing. The series is based on three novellas published by Martin — The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight (2010). All three stories were then collected and published together as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in 2015.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expected to launch in late 2025, but the release of the second season of House of the Dragon is just a few weeks away. The series will return on June 16th.

Turtles of Grayskull

Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are two franchises that had a massive impact on my childhood – and now Dark Horse Comics has revealed that they will be bringing characters from those franchises together in a four-part comic book mini-series called Turtles of Grayskull! Super Hero Hype reports that the first issue of Turtles of Grayskull will be reaching store shelves on September 25th – and they also got their hands on three different covers for that issue, which you can check out at the bottom of this article!

Longtime He-Man writer Tim Seeley has written Turtles of Grayskull, with Freddie E. Williams II (who previously drew the Injustice/Masters of the Universe and Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossovers) providing the artwork. Space Ghost colorist Andrew Dalhouse is also on board, with the lettering coming from AndWorld Design.

Turtles of Grayskull finds the Ninja Turtles sent to Eternia after stumbling across Shredder making a bargain with Skeletor. Soon Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo are teaming up with the Masters of the Universe to kick some blue boney butt.

Seeley provided the following statement: “As inevitable as a meet up between He-Man and the Turtles has felt, it took some time getting done! And now that it’s here, I have a huge pile of newly purchased figures, and a bunch of pages for what is one of the most awesome comics I’ve ever gotten to work on.

Williams added: “This crossover has a long lineage- many of us fans have been bashing He-Man and the Ninja Turtles together since we were kids! And I’m honored and thrilled to draw it!

Will you be reading Turtles of Grayskull? Share your thoughts on this crossover between the Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchises by leaving a comment below – and take a look at the covers while you’re scrolling down!

I will definitely be reading this series, as my 7-year-old self would have thought this team-up was one of the greatest things to happen in the history of the world. I owe it to that kid to find out what’s going to happen when He-Man meets the Turtles.

My Bloody Valentine

Last month, we learned that Lionsgate and Blumhouse Productions have made a multi-picture pact that will see Blumhouse reimagining horror classics from the Lionsgate library, with the first project on that slate being the development and production of a reboot of The Blair Witch Project. Now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have revealed that Blumhouse is already planning a reboot of another Lionsgate property: My Bloody Valentine! No further details have been shared.

Directed by George Mihalka from a screenplay by John Beaird (and a story by Stephen Miller), the original My Bloody Valentine was released in 1981 and has the following synopsis: Twenty years ago, a tragic accident in a mine on St. Valentine’s Day took the lives of five miners. The disaster occurred while supervisors left their posts to attend the town’s annual Valentine’s Day dance. The only survivor, Harry Warden, was confined to a mental institution after the ordeal. On the disaster’s first anniversary, he returned to the town for bloody revenge. That was nineteen years ago, and memories have dimmed. Young lovers T.J. and Sarah and friend Axel are among the townspeople attending another Valentine’s party. Then, a box of Valentine candy arrives, containing an ominous message and a blood-soaked heart. Before the night is over, terror will strike again and again and again…

Twenty-eight years later, director Patrick Lussier and screenwriters Todd Farmer and Zane Smith brought us a 3-D remake of My Bloody Valentine that told this story: Ten years ago, an inexperienced coal miner named Tom Hanniger caused an accident that killed five men and put a sixth, Harry Warden, into a coma. A year later, on Valentine’s Day, Harry woke up and murdered 22 people with a pickaxe before dying. Now Tom has returned home, still haunted by the past. And something else is back in Harmony: a pickaxe-wielding killer in a miner’s mask, who may be the ghost of Harry, come to claim Tom and his friends.

The 1981 My Bloody Valentine is one of the best slasher movies to come out of the ’80s, and I’d rank the 2009 My Bloody Valentine as one of the best horror remakes ever made, so I hope Blumhouse will make something awesome with their take on the property. This is a franchise that never lived up to its potential, as the filmmakers behind the original had ideas for a sequel that never made it into production, and the same thing happened with the remake.

Are you a fan of My Bloody Valentine? What do you think of Blumhouse getting their hands on it? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Inglourious Basterds Eli Roth

Vanessa Kirby, who earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in Pieces of a Woman and is best known for the White Widow character she played in Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (as well as landing the role of Sue Storm in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe version of The Fantastic Four), launched a production company called Aluna Entertainment with former Film4 executive Lauren Dark back in 2021, and Variety reports that Aluna Entertainment is now in production on its first feature film. It’s a thriller called Night Always Comes, and Kirby stars alongside Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Zack Gottsagen (The Peanut Butter Falcon), Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk), Julia Fox (Uncut Gems), Randall Park (WandaVision), and Michael Kelly (House of Cards).

Benjamin Caron, whose credits include The Crown and Andor, is directing Night Always Comes from a screenplay by Sarah Conradt (Mother’s Instinct). Based on the 2021 novel by Lean on Pete author Willy Vlautin, the film follows Lynette, a woman who risks everything to secure a future for herself and her brother by setting out on a dangerous odyssey in Portland, in doing so confronting her own dark past over one propulsive night.

Kirby revealed that Vlautin’s story “reminded me of so many of my favourite films, like Cassavetes’ Gloria, it really had the heartbeat of that, the visceral-ness, and also the Safdie Brothers movies like Uncut Gems and Good Time, and Sebastian Schipper’s Victoria,” adding that she loved the morally complicated, antihero protagonists of those films. “What those movies do is put you at the epicenter of their journey, one that’s really propulsive. But also you’re inside their experience. And to me that’s great cinema, when you feel like you’re going on a journey with them. So that’s why we loved the book.

Kirby went on to say, “It feels very, very meaningful that our first production happens to be this one, which is this women’s story all set over one night, with all her hope and desperation and complexity. With this team it just feels incredibly special.

Kirby and Dark are producing Night Always Comes for Aluna Entertainment. Benjamin and Jodie Caron are also producing for Square Eyed Pictures, with Gary Levinsohn and Billy Hines producing for H2L Media Group. Vlautin serves as an executive producer alongside Ryan Bartecki of H2L, Chris Stinson, and Amy Greene.

Night Always Comes is set up at the Netflix streaming service, which previously worked with Kirby on Pieces of a Woman and The Crown, and has a multi-year first-look deal with Aluna Entertainment.
