The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game

Players have been hacking up victims as genre icon Leatherface and his fellow killers in the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive since it was released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One back on August 18th – but some of the most brutal kills haven’t even been added into the game yet! The game’s official X account has announced that the “Execution Pack 3” will be available for purchase as of May 28th, going for the price of $6.99, and they’re going to make the game even more brutal than it has been so far.

The game’s developers shared a one minute long clip of the new kills, and you can watch that right here:

Matches of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game pit 4 victim characters against 3 killer characters. The story of the game has the following set-up: When Maria Flores went missing, and local law enforcement seemed to stall out in their search, her younger sister Ana teamed up with some of Maria’s friends from college to pick up the trail. The game takes place before the events of director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it HERE).

Kane Hodder (who also worked on Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III) did the motion-capture performance for Leatherface in the game, as well as the Grandpa character. Other motion-capture performers include Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) as The Hitch-hiker; Troy Burgess (Swedish Dicks) as The Cook; Kristina Klebe (Don’t Kill It) as new killer character Sissy; and Dove Meir (Dig) as new killer character Johnny. Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween) did the mo-cap for all of the female victim characters while Hunter C. Smith (Lucky) did the mo-cap for all of the male victim characters. Although Whalen did the mo-cap for the Hitch-hiker, Edwin Neal, who played the character in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, provided his voice for the game. Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night) provided the voice of Johnny, and Michael Johnston of Teen Wolf did the same for Danny. BAFTA winner Cissy Jones did the mo-cap and vocal performance for Nancy. You can find out more about the killer characters at THIS LINK and the victim characters HERE. A recent addition to the game is the Virginia character, who has the voice and likeness of genre icon Barbara Crampton. A new killer called Hands is going to be added in June.

monarch, legacy of monsters

The first season of Legendary’s MonsterVerse TV series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters ran on Apple TV+ from November into January (you can read our own Alex Maidy’s review of the first batch of episodes HERE), and while Godzilla was an important figure in that season, it wrapped up with an episode that indicated Kong might be taking the spotlight if there were to be a follow-up. The show was co-developed by Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), and during a recent interview with Gold Derby, Black said that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 is aiming to be bigger and better – while giving viewers the Kong action they’re hoping to see.

Black told Gold Derby (with thanks to our friends at Bloody Disgusting for the transcription), “I think where we left the season gave us so much fertile territory for storytelling. Keiko comes back, we appear to have lost Colonel Shaw, we have this reunion with the family… that feels like a great launch pad for season 2. We want to continue to tell this human story, we want to continue to tell the story of the Randa family and Kate and Kentaro and their father Hiroshi and now their grandmother Keiko. But there also is a hunger for more spectacle, for more monsters. How do we make it bigger and better? We reveal Kong at the end of the first season so there’s gonna be an expectation you’re gonna see more of Kong that we want to deliver on.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is the latest chapter in Legendary Entertainment’s Monsterverse series, which currently consists of Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. KongGodzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and the Netflix animated series Skull Island.

The ten episode first season was set after “the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real” (as seen in Godzilla 2014). It tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw, taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

The cast includes Anna Sawai, Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters comes our way from Legendary Television. Matt Shakman (WandaVision) directed the first two episodes. Black, Fraction, and Shakman executive produce the series with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, as well as Andy Goddard, Brad Van Arragon, and Andrew Colville. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character.

Avengers: Endgame, superhero fatigue

While Marvel Studios quietly rethinks its approach to blockbuster entertainment by limiting the content released yearly in theaters and on Disney+, industry insider Daniel Richtman could have a promising update about the next Avengers movie. According to Richtman, who has a decent track record for leaking information about upcoming film projects throughout the industry, principal photography for Avengers 5 begins in the United Kingdom next January. Initially, reports said cameras could roll as early as December, but that appears to have changed.

Richtman says the story for Avengers 5 is “more grounded” than previous chapters of the multi-million dollar-printing franchise. However, Marvel plans to “go big or go home” regarding the Multiverse so that fans can expect plenty of portal-hopping shenanigans as the MCU gets remixed from one adventure to the next. Marvel has dabbled with the Multiverse already, but the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine could push the concept beyond limits with the dynamic duo sticking their dirty fingers in the fabric of reality to alter the MCU. Rumors suggest Deadpool & Wolverine is a “jumping off point” for a new MCU era where casual audiences can enjoy the stories without “doing the homework.”

Recent reports suggest Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan) and Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop) will be the new faces of the Avengers when the team returns to the silver screen, but nothing is confirmed. Marvel has planted seeds for a Young Avengers team to take center stage, with Kamala assuming a Nick Fury-like role in gathering a team of up-and-coming heroes to defend humanity. However, that trajectory could change with the MCU being in constant flux.

Avengers 5 also suffers from a Kang problem. Jonathan Majors, who plays Kang the Conqueror in the MCU, was recently convicted of assault and harassment in a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. While Kand is supposed to appear in at least two upcoming films, rumors suggest he’ll be paired with another villain to help lighten the load.

Do you think Marvel can salvage the MCU after so many years of missteps and setbacks? Do you believe any of the original Avengers will appear in the upcoming sequel? Let us know in the comments section below.

The Primevals

A project that has been decades in the making, the most expensive film in the history of producer Charles Band‘s company Full Moon, the stop-motion epic The Primevals made its festival premiere last summer and was given a theatrical release through Alamo Drafthouse cinemas earlier this year. A special edition Blu-ray release from Full Moon will be up for order in July (and there’s an Australian release that will be shipping out in August) – but if you want to check out the streaming version, you only have one more week to wait. The Primevals will be available exclusively for rental on Amazon Prime Video and Full Moon Features streaming apps as of May 31st, going for the price of $4.99.

The Primevals (read our review HERE) was a passion project for visual effects artist David Allen, who earned an Oscar nomination for his work on the 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes. He spent around twenty years thinking of and working on this sci-fi fantasy film. He first came up with the idea – a film that would combine live action with stop-motion animation to tell a story of time travel, Eskimos, yetis, robots, and giant lizards – in the 1960s or ’70s. Filming of the live action scenes were completed in 1994, and he was working on the special effects right up until he passed away from cancer at the age of 54 in 1999. Then the project sat dormant for almost another twenty years… until Charles Band and Allen’s longtime associate Chris Endicott (Avengers: Infinity War) were able to start putting the finishing touches on the film.

Here’s the official synopsis: Deep in the Himalayas, a group of Sherpas subdue and kill a towering humanoid creature. Its remains — including a brain that appears to have undergone some kind of surgery — wind up under the supervision of Dr. Claire Collier (Juliet Mills), who believes it to be one of the legendary Yeti. Joined by her former student Matt Connor (Richard Joseph Paul), a longtime believer in the creatures’ existence, big-game hunter Rondo Montana (Leon Russom), and others, Dr. Collier leads an expedition into the mountains to track down more of the abominable snowmen. Their trek results in an encounter with a tribe of primitive hominids — which in turn leads to the far more frightening discovery of beings they never could have expected or imagined.

Allen directed the film from a screenplay by Randall William Cook.

Pacific Heights has mixed aspects of status culture, domestic and physiological thriller, giving us an intense, melodramatic, and juicy entry into one of the best subgenres. Add to that a surprisingly energetic directing style, alongside Michael Keaton going full psycho, and you get a decent early 90s Thriller. Today on Revisited, we head back to the 90s and dig into Lance Vlcek’s second entry into his Domestic Thriller Trilogy.

The film stars Michael Keaton, Matthew Modine, Melanie Griffith, Mako Mako, and Laurie Metcalf. It

Toolbox Murders is technically a remake of the 1978 film The Toolbox Murders, but it’s very different from the source material. Written by Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch, this one has the following synopsis: A couple work hard to renovate their dream house and become landlords to pay for it. Unfortunately, one of their tenants has plans of his own.

The Pacific Heights episode of Revisited was Written, Narrated, and Edited by Lance Vlcek, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

Star Wars: The Acolyte, Dafne Keen

The highly anticipated Star Wars series The Acolyte officially launches on Disney+ on June 4. Still, early viewers are already flocking to social media platforms to celebrate the dark, bold, and bound-to-be-divisive series. On Thursday evening, the cast and crew celebrated the show’s early arrival with a select crowd, and the first reactions to the murder mystery set in a galaxy far, far away are pouring in. The event shared the series’ first two episodes (some journos have seen the first four), and audiences have big feelings about what could be the grittiest Star Wars saga yet.

Many of the reactions to The Acolyte are overwhelmingly positive, with viewers praising the show’s stellar performances, nail-biting action, and intriguing murder mystery plot. In particular, audiences say Amandla Sternberg, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Lee Jung-jae are sensational additions to the Star Wars universe.

You can check out some of the first reactions to The Acolyte below:

Reading through the comments, you’ll see many celebrating the show’s overall vibe, with one viewer likening the presentation to Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. That comment is bound to turn a few heads as invoking Tarantino’s marital arts double-feature in any capacity is risky. Other viewers say The Acolyte exceeds their expectations, even after only two episodes. Jamie Jirak of the Blank Check Podcast says she enjoyed visiting an older era in Star Wars history in live-action and that Leslye Headland does a “dynamite” job of fleshing out the characters.

Despite being one of the Star Wars universe’s darker offerings, Dr. Nancy Wang Yuen says Manny Jacinto does a great job of breaking the tension with good humor, creating an inspired balance for what is assuredly a bloody affair.

Set hundreds of years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom MenaceThe Acolyte takes place during the High Republic era of the franchise. The series stars Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Dafne Keen (Logan), Charlie Barnett (You), Jodie Turner-Smith (Anne Boleyn), Rebecca Henderson (Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (Game of Thrones), Joonas Suotamon (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix Resurrections).

The logline reads: “An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.”

The Acolyte premieres on Disney+ on June 4. Are you excited for this new chapter of the Star Wars universe? Let us know in the comments section below.
