The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 is now filming, video goes behind the scenes

When the Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City (check out our review HERE) had its premiere last June, it became the biggest cable drama debut of the year, drawing in 683,000 viewers as it aired on AMC, with viewers of the simulcasts on BBC America and IFC, plus replays, boosting the number of viewers to 1.12 million. So it’s no surprise that we’re getting a The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 that’s aiming for a 2025 premiere. The new batch of episodes is now in production, and AMC has shared a short video that gives a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the show. You can check it out in the embed above.

Eli Jorné, who was a writer and co-executive producer on The Walking Dead for multiple seasons, serves as showrunner on The Walking Dead: Dead City. This show sees Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror. 

Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan have been playing Maggie and Negan since season 2 and 6 (respectively) of The Walking Dead. They are joined in the cast by Mahina Napoleon (NCIS: Hawai’i), Zeljko Ivanek (Madam Secretary), Gaius Charles (Fright Night Lights), Jonathan Higginbotham (Shining Vale), Trey Santiago-Hudson (You Hurt My Feelings), and Charlie Solis (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit). It was recently announced that Kim Coates of Sons of Anarchy will be playing a gang leader named Bruegel in The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, and there’s a quick glimpse of him in that behind-the-scenes video.

Cohan, Morgan, and Jorné are executive producing The Walking Dead: Dead City with Scott M. Gimple, the Chief Content Officer of the Walking Dead Universe.

Obsession: Dove Cameron, Avan Jogia to star in James Wan thriller series based on 56 Days novel

Atomic Monster, the production company headed up by genre regular James Wan, is teaming with Amazon Studios to produce a psychological thriller series based on the best-selling novel 56 Days, by Catherine Ryan Howard (pick up a copy HERE). Titled Obsession, this adaptation of Howard’s work got an official series order at the end of last year – and now Deadline has learned that Dove Cameron of Schmigadoon! and Descendants and Avan Jogia, who dealt with zombies in both Zombieland: Double Tap and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, have been cast in the lead roles.

Lisa Zwerling and Karyn Usher, who were behind the Starz drama The Rook, are writing the adaptation and serve as executive producers alongside Wan and Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Rob Hackett. Danielle Bozzone will oversee the series for Atomic Monster. Howard is a co-executive producer.

Written by Howard during the pandemic lockdown in Dublin back in 2020, 56 Days is set during that very same lockdown. It tells the story of an intense, erotic romance that turns deadly. It follows two young professionals, striking out on their own in a new city, who are entangled quickly in a charged relationship that leads to a powerful intimacy that is soon cracked open by their secrets … and to murder. Here’s the book description: No one even knew they were together. Now one of them is dead. 56 DAYS AGO: Ciara and Oliver meet in a supermarket queue in Dublin and start dating the same week COVID-19 reaches Irish shores. 35 DAYS AGO: When lockdown threatens to keep them apart, Oliver suggests they move in together. Ciara sees a unique opportunity for a relationship to flourish without the scrutiny of family and friends. Oliver sees a chance to hide who — and what — he really is. TODAY: Detectives arrive at Oliver’s apartment to discover a decomposing body inside. Can they determine what really happened, or has lockdown created an opportunity for someone to commit the perfect crime?

The Obsession adaptation is not set during the pandemic lockdown, but it will center on Oliver and Ciara, who meet randomly in a supermarket and quickly fall into a relationship. Fifty-six days later, homicide investigators arrive at Oliver’s apartment to find an unidentified body — brutally murdered and intentionally decomposed. Did he kill her? Did she kill him? Intercutting between an intense single day in the present investigation and the twisted trajectory of the young lovers’ affair in the past, the series is both a unique crime story and a riveting, erotic, psychological thriller.

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock returns for 40th anniversary…in U.K. only

A dying planet. A fight for life. The search for Spock. It all returns to theaters this year. To commemorate the 40th anniversary, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock will beam back onto screens. Unfortunately for most of us, the release is only headed to the United Kingdom, leaving everybody else wondering if we’ll get it as well.

When it was released, The Search for Spock opened at #1 with $16.7 million, a best for the franchise up to that point. It also beat out Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in its second week. But it would fall short of its predecessors on the worldwide box office, taking in $87 million compared to Star Trek: The Motion Picture’s $139 million and The Wrath of Khan’s $95.8 million. It would also be surpassed by the fourth installment, The Voyage Home.

Today, The Search for Spock stands as perhaps the most underrated Star Trek movie, with a fanbase that has been tirelessly supportive in the decades following its release. With that, there is definitely a call for it to hit the States and other countries, which would be a fitting tribute to the movie that has grown in reputation over time. Four decades on, The Search for Spock holds a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the fourth highest-rated of the original series of movies.

As Empire notes, this is “the first film in the series to have been directed by Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy – and, following the tragic conclusion of Wrath Of Khan, sees Captain Kirk heading off on… well, a search for Spock. Get ready for Genesis planets, resurrections, and Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon. Great Scott!” They also debuted the British quad poster by Matt Ferguson, which you can check out below:

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock will hit U.K. cinemas on June 14th, almost 40 years to the day after it made its worldwide debut. For those of us outside of the territory, you can at least watch the movie on Max.

Go the distance with the new Rocky: Ultimate Knockout Collection that will include Rocky V and Rocky Balboa in 4K for the first time

The Rocky movies are pretty synonymous with cinema. You’ve got every kind of movie you could want, the intimate Academy Award-winning underdog original and its closely knit sequel, the fun and cheesy spectacles of Rocky III and Rocky IV, the misguided attempt to recapture its roots with Rocky V, and the old war horse, broken down, one-last-fight inspiration of Rocky Balboa. The story behind the first movie is as engaging as the movie itself, which is why it will be the subject of a new movie from Peter Farrelly called I Play Rocky.

Blu-ray.com has unveiled that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will now be releasing the Rocky series, sans Creed spin-offs, with the new 4K Ultra HD Rocky: Ultimate Knockout Collection. The set will encompass all versions of the commercially released films in UHD, which includes both the theatrical version of Rocky IV and the recut Rocky Vs. Drago: The Ultimate Director’s Cut, as well as a theatrical version and a director’s cut of Rocky Balboa. This set will also feature the first time both Rocky V and Rocky Balboa are available in 4K. The championship pack will be available on July 16.

The set includes a bonus disc with the extended documentary of the Rocky Vs. Drago re-edit as well as the features from the Blu-ray release of Rocky.

Rocky I
Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), a small-time boxer from working-class Philadelphia, is arbitrarily chosen to take on the reigning world heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), when the undefeated fighter’s scheduled opponent is injured. While training with feisty former bantamweight contender Mickey Goldmill (Burgess Meredith), Rocky tentatively begins a relationship with Adrian (Talia Shire), the wallflower sister of his meat-packer pal Paulie (Burt Young).

Rocky II
Although working-class Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) lost his high-profile bout with the cocky world champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), his Cinderella story has caught the national sports media’s attention, and he now has the opportunity to capitalize on his sudden fame. Meanwhile, Creed is still smarting from nearly losing to some palooka no one has ever heard of, and arrogantly prods his newfound nemesis into getting back into the ring.

Rocky III
Having become the world heavyweight champion, former working-class boxer Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is rich and famous beyond his wildest dreams, which has made him lazy and overconfident. In a double whammy, he loses his trainer and father figure Mickey (Burgess Meredith) and then has his title stolen by the arrogant, menacing challenger Clubber Lang (Mr. T). Turning to his former adversary, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), for help, Rocky struggles to get his old fire back.

Rocky IV
After reclaiming the boxing championship title, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) plans to retire and live with his wife, Adrian (Talia Shire). However, during an exhibition match, Rocky’s friend Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) is mercilessly beaten to death by hulking Russian newcomer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Rocky vows payback against Drago and flies to Russia to train for a Christmas Day fight. Despite their different training methods, Rocky and Drago both wage a long and intense match.

Rocky V
Recently retired boxer Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) falls on hard times after his accountant mismanages his finances. He stages a comeback of sorts by mentoring fiery young boxer Tommy (Tommy Morrison), while also trying to mend his shaky relationship with his own son, Robert (Sage Stallone). These challenges prove to be at least as tough as any fight Rocky has faced in the ring. He wonders if he will be able to meet them and raise his arms in victory again.

Rocky Balboa
Now long-retired, Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) runs a Philadelphia eatery and mourns the loss of his beloved wife, Adrian. Yearning to recapture a bit of his glory days, he plans to re-enter the ring for a few low-profile, local matches. All that changes when Rocky accepts a challenge to fight the world’s reigning heavyweight champion, Mason “the Line” Dixon (Antonio Tarver).
