Boy Kills World looked to be a cool action flick – and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said it was in his 8/10 review, where he wrote, “I had a total blast with this demented actioner.” But even with producer Sam Raimi’s name on the film, it didn’t draw in much of an audience during its theatrical run. According to The Numbers, it only made $3 million worldwide. Now it’s heading to home video, where hopefully it will have more success. Boy Kills World is getting a digital release next week, on May 28th, and Amazon is already accepting pre-orders at THIS LINK.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Moritz Mohr. It was scripted by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie). The story takes place in a bizarre, dark dystopian universe and centers on a deaf and mute character, Boy, who navigates this depressing world with his otherworldly imagination. Tragedy strikes when Boy’s family is brutally murdered. When his fight or flight instincts kick in, Boy finds himself on a life-threatening trek into the darkly forested jungle. There, he meets a shaman who takes Boy under his wing and launches him into a cutthroat coming of age journey where he encourages his new pupil to leave his youth behind and pick up the baton as a highly trained assassin.
Bill Skarsgard plays Boy and is joined in the cast by Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), Yayan Ruhian (The Raid: Redemption), Andrew Koji (Warrior), Isaiah Mustafa (It: Chapter Two), Famke Janssen (The Faculty), Brett Gelman (Stranger Things), Sharlto Copley (District 9), Quinn Copeland (Punky Brewster), twin brothers Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti (Big Little Lies), and Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey). Dockery plays Melanie, “the sister of the film’s Van der Koy family. Melanie is a satirical powerhouse and sociopath who tries to project a powerful cohesive family image to hide the desperation behind their decaying dynasty.” Janssen, Gelman, and Copley are also members of the antagonistic Van Der Koy family, with Janssen as matriarch Hilda, and Gelman and Copley as Gideon and Glen, respectively.
Sam Raimi and Zainab Azizi produced Boy Kills World through Raimi Productions, Roy Lee produced for Vertigo Entertainment, Simon Swart and Wayne Fitzjohn produced through Nthibah Pictures, and Alex Lebovici produced through Hammerstone Studios. Stuart Manashil and Dan Kagan are also producers. Reza Brojerdi of Ventaro Film and Andrew Childs are executive producers.
Boy Kills World is rated R for strong bloody violence and gore throughout, language, some drug use and sexual references.

Henry Cavill’s days of playing our hero Geralt of Rivia on the Netflix series The Witcher are over, but the streamer is continuing the show without him. Liam Hemsworth is taking over the role of Geralt as of The Witcher season 4 and will stick around for season 5, which was recently announced as the final season of the series. With The Witcher season 4 now in production, spy pics of Hemsworth as Geralt have been leaking online – so Netflix has decided to go ahead and release an official image of him in character through Entertainment Weekly. You can check it out at the bottom of this article, or if you want to see the image in motion, you can watch the teaser video embedded above.
Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich provided the following statement: “His look has been in development for over a year, so it’s thrilling to finally share an official sneak peek of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. Cast and crew alike have been struck by the passion, energy, and embodiment Liam has brought to the character from Day 1 — scruffy beard, iconic scar, and all! We’re having so much fun filming season 4 and are excited to welcome fans along on this journey with us.“
Inspired by a series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family — the story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.
For The Witcher season 4, Hemsworth will be sharing the screen with returning Witcher stars Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra, and Joey Batey. New additions to the cast include Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) as Regis, a character who was introduced in Sapkowski’s novel Baptism of Fire and is “a world-wise barber / surgeon with a mysterious past who joins Geralt on his journey in season 4;” Sharlto Copley (District 9) as the infamous bounty hunter Leo Bonhart from the novels, James Purefoy (The Following) as Skellen, a high-ranking spy and court advisor to Emhyr who is also a prominent figure in the novels; and Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld) as Zoltan, a fan favorite dwarf character from the novels and Witcher video games.
After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again.
The Witcher is executive produced by Steve Gaub, Matt O’Toole, Mike Ostrowski, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko of Platige Films, and Jason Brown and Sean Daniel of Hivemind Content.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is upon us. The spin-off is getting mostly positive reactions, with a bevy of its criticisms coming from the film’s length and pacing. However, the consensus is that 79-year-old George Miller brings back the action and excitement that made Mad Max: Fury Road such a standout spectacle in the sea of frenetic action blockbusters. While praise belongs to Miller and the film’s star, Anya Taylor-Joy, the man of the hour is Chris Hemsworth as Dementus, the villain of the movie.
Hemsworth has recently stated that he would get in his own way by improvising too much on Thor: Love and Thunder. However, a new profile in MovieMaker reveals that Hemsworth found it easier to disappear into his character for Furiosa thanks to his unique look — namely the prosthetic nose. He explained, “The nose, the beard, the kind of wig, all the sort of prosthetics and the costume, everything was just, look — any of that helps you kind of get out the way of yourself. The more you can cut loose of yourself and be completely taken on a journey through what the hair and makeup, costume, the sets, have to offer — it makes your job so much easier.”
The way that Miller was able to create another world on the set of the film worked to the benefit of Hemsworth immersing himself into the character much more. It was a far cry from having to act against a green screen, “Look at these costumes, look at these sets. We just gotta not screw up our lines now and not get in the way of it all. So it was like another prop, all of it. And when I would look in the mirror, I’d go, ‘I don’t see myself anymore. This is a great thing.’ So then you start to think differently, start reacting differently, and there’s a knock-on effect to that.”
Meanwhile, there is still waiting from fans on when Max Rockatansky will be making his return. There is a plan for Mad Max: The Wasteland, but delays have been plaguing it. As recently as 2022, Miller described the story as “still not fully evolved.” There is also a novella of The Wasteland that Miller had also written in addition to the screenplay. Miller explained, “We also wrote, not a screenplay, but almost in novel form, Nico Lathouris and I, what happened to Max in that year before (the events of Mad Max: Fury Road), and that’s something that we’ll look at further down the track later.” Since the story is set “before”, Miller has confirmed that the Furiosa character is not involved.

The copyright lawsuit between original Friday the 13th director / producer Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller, a case that dragged on for years, finally ended with Miller being awarded the copyright to the first movie within the United States. Fans were hoping that meant the path was clear for a new Friday the 13th film to go into production soon – but that’s not happening. During an appearance at the Texas Frightmare Weekend convention, Cunningham told fans we shouldn’t expect to see a new Friday the 13th movie for at least three more years.
Back in the glory days, a.k.a. the ’80s, we were getting new Friday the 13th movie from Paramount on a yearly basis, with 1983 and 1987 being the only years without a new F13 arriving on the screen. But things changed when the ’90s arrived. We only got one new movie, from New Line Cinema, that entire decade, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. Otherwise, the franchise was bogged down in the development hell of Freddy vs. Jason, which took ten years to come together. So long that another F13 movie, Jason X, was sent out into the world in the meantime. When Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash fell through, Platinum Dunes was brought in (after a brief, ill-fated attempt to get Quentin Tarantino to mastermind a new Friday movie) to reboot the franchise. Which they did, with 2009’s Friday the 13th – and since that film used elements from the first four movies that were released by Paramount, New Line and Paramount had to work together on that one. For a moment, it looked like a 3-D sequel was on the fast track for a 2010 release… but New Line would have to work with Paramount on a sequel, and the studios didn’t want to split the money again. So that was scrapped. Later, New Line gave Paramount five years to do whatever they wanted with the franchise, and what Paramount did was keep it development hell for five years. When a movie was finally just weeks from going into production, Paramount pulled the plug because their recent horror release Rings had underperformed. Then came the Cunningham / Miller lawsuit. Things have been a mess for a long time. We got eight movies in ten years. In the thirty-five years since, we’ve only gotten four more.
Asked about the chances of a new Friday the 13th movie happening any time soon during his appearance at Texas Frightmare Weekend, Cunningham said (according to Creepy Catalog), “the major obstacle holding back a new Friday the 13th film is the reluctance of a movie studio to risk putting money into a horror project that might not see a huge return on its investment. In the post-pandemic world where movie-watching habits are changing, especially for movies released in theaters, studios like New Line aren’t necessarily willing to provide a substantial budget for a horror movie. At least, not for one they’re not reasonably certain will do well in theaters.” So, he said, don’t expect to see a new movie for “at least three years.”
One problem here is that Cunningham seems to think “a substantial budget” is necessary for a Friday the 13th movie, which shouldn’t be the case. Unless people behind-the-scenes are asking for large paydays. For the action on the screen, it shouldn’t cost too much to have Jason Voorhees slash his way through a new batch of characters.
Of course, there are other Friday the 13th projects in development. Miller is teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian of Horror Inc., production company A24, and the Peacock streaming service for a series called Crystal Lake, which will tell a new version of the story of Jason Voorhees and his mother. Announced on Halloween 2022, that show looked like it would be heading into production this summer – but then A24 decided they wanted to go in “a different direction” than showrunner Bryan Fuller was taking the story, so Fuller was dropped and they need to find a new showrunner to take Crystal Lake in a direction A24 is more enthusiastic about. It’s worth noting that the Peacock deal guarantees one season of the show, with the streamer facing a penalty if they don’t do a second season. Pretty much making sure season 2 is going to happen as well. The fact that two seasons of a TV show are expected could be why Cunningham said a movie is at least three years down the line. By the way, Cunningham holds no ill will toward the project, even though it’s the result of him losing the copyright battle. He said he is “looking forward to the show and is interested in seeing how they adapt the story in a new way.“
Cunningham was once developing a TV series of his own, called Crystal Lake Chronicles. The CW expressed interest in that one… before it fell apart, like everything else.
Miller, Toberoff, and Barsamian are also behind the recently announced Jason Universe plan to release “new Friday the 13th activations that will span a wide range of platforms from entertainment, games, immersive experiences, merchandise and more to be announced throughout 2024 via @JasonUniverse13 on social media or by visiting the official Jason Universe website.” But the movie side of the franchise is going to remain dormant for a while.
What do you think of a new Friday the 13th movie being “at least three years” away? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Apple TV+ has now released the new tense trailer for Presumed Innocent, the limited series coming to the streaming service courtesy of David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams. The legal drama has Jake Gyllenhaal in for the fight of his life as he defends himself from allegations of murdering a peer with whom he shared a complicated entanglement. It doesn’t look good for Gyllenhaal’s character, as a plethora of evidence is working against him, and he can only continually profess his innocence.
The official synopsis reads,
“Gyllenhaal is set to star as Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor whose world is upended when a close colleague is murdered — and the evidence begins to point to Rusty himself. The role would be his first ongoing part in a TV series. Presumed Innocent was previously adapted for a 1990 feature film that starred Harrison Ford as Sabich, along with Bonnie Bedelia and Raul Julia. Kelley’s version will be a reimagining of Turow’s novel that will explore, per the show’s logline, ‘obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”
Inspired by the Alan J. Pakula-directed thriller of the same name, the original film starred Harrison Ford, Raul Julia, and Greta Scacchi. The newest version of Presumed Innocent comes from primetime TV veterans David E. Kelley (The Lincoln Lawyer, Big Shot, Goliath) and J.J. Abrams (Lost, Super 8, Star Trek). Presumed Innocent revolves around a vicious murder that sends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office reeling when one of their representatives becomes a suspect in the crime. Kelley’s version is said to investigate themes of obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love as the accused fights to keep aspects of their life from falling apart.
Jake Gyllenhaal plays Rusty Sabich in the new series, the role previously played by Harrison Ford in the 1990 thriller. Ruth Negga will play Barbara Sabich, an artist, gallerist, mother, and wife whose life is upended when her husband, Rusty, is accused of murdering his mistress. Throughout the ordeal, Barbara wrestles with the fallout of her husband’s misdeeds, striving to keep her family close and heal her broken heart.
Kelley, who was an actual attorney, wrote the series and serves as an executive producer and showrunner. Additionally, Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich are executive producers for Bad Robot. Matthew Tinker executive produces through David E. Kelley Productions, with Gyllenhaal, Dustin Thomason, and Sharr White executive producing. Turow and Miki Johnson co-executive produce. Finally, Anne Sewitsky is directing and executive producing the first two episodes.
Presumed Innocent is scheduled to reside on Apple TV+ on June 12.
