When Game of Thrones TV series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss set out to craft an epic series called 3 Body Problem, an adaptation of a trilogy of sci-fi novels written by Chinese author Liu Cixin, for the Netflix streaming service, they were hoping to get four seasons out of the material. But when the first season of 3 Body Problem started streaming in March and pulled in a sizeable but underwhelming number of views, some began to question whether or not Netflix would want any more episodes of the big budget show. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Netflix has indeed ordered more episodes – but just enough to allow Benioff, Weiss, and co-creator Alexander Woo to wrap up the story. Exactly how many episodes that will be has not yet been revealed.
The showrunners provided the following statement: “We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion. Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!“
Peter Friedlander, vp of scripted series at Netflix, added: “The extraordinary 3 Body Problem, brought to life with the deft hands of Benioff, Weiss and Woo, will soar to never-before-seen heights as they tackle the rest of the mind-blowing journey through Death’s End. Their brilliant vision as storytellers is matched by their amazing partnership — and, just like the fans, we can’t wait to see what they have in store.“
The Hollywood Reporter shared this information on the show’s viewership and budget: “After a somewhat modest first week, the show demonstrated it had legs, topping Netflix’s TV chart for three weeks and spending seven weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10. While 3 Body Problem initially drew some mixed reviews, its Rotten Tomatoes critic and audience scores gradually rose to 80 percent and 78 percent, respectively. The show is said to be one of the most expensive in Netflix’s history, costing more than $20 million per episode, which doesn’t include the cost of acquiring the TV rights to Liu Cixin’s novels and subsequent marketing.” JoBlo’s own Alex Maidy gave the show a 6/10 review.
The 3 Body Problem was the title of the first novel in Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy. The second novel was titled The Dark Forest and the third Death’s End. The novels tell the story of what happens when humanity discovers that we are not alone in the universe and prepares for an alien force arriving from a distant and inhospitable world. The title refers to the aliens’ star system, which has three stars orbiting each other in such a way that an Earth-type planet between them keeps suffering extreme hot and cold temperatures, repeatedly wiping out its intelligent civilizations.
The first eight episodes of the Netflix adaptation had the following synopsis: A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time to a group of brilliant scientists in the present day. As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history. The series stars Eiza González (Baby Driver, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Jovan Adepo (Overlord, The Stand), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange, Gemini Man), John Bradley (Game of Thrones, Moonfall), Tsai Chin (Lucky Grandma, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, Dog Soldiers), Jess Hong (Inked, The Brokenwood Mysteries), Marlo Kelly (Home and Away, Dare Me), Alex Sharp (How toTalk to Girls at Parties, The Trial of the Chicago 7), Sea Shimooka (Pink Skies Ahead, Arrow), Saamer Usmani (InventingAnna, Succession), and newcomer Zine Tseng.
Benioff, Weiss, and Alexander Woo (The Terror: Infamy) are co-creators, executive producers, and writers on 3 Body Problem. Bernadette Caulfield is also an executive producer, as are Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, and Nena Rodrigue of T-Street; Lin Qi, the late former Chairman of Yoozoo Group, and Zhao Jilong, CEO of the rights-holder, The Three-Body Universe; Xiaosong Gao and Lauren Ma; Plan B Entertainment’s Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, and Dede Gardner; and Rosamund Pike and Robie Uniacke of Primitive Streak. Derek Tsang and Andrew Stanton direct and co-executive produce. Jeremy Podeswa and Minkie Spiro also directed episodes.
Benioff previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the second season (if it happened) would be better than its predecessor. “Liu Cixin’s created this indelible trilogy and the books just get better for me. The second book is far better than the first, and the third book just completely blew my mind. The story just gets more and more ambitious as it goes, and it takes a huge leap in book two. So I feel like if we survive to the second season, we’re going to be in a good place.“

Netflix is tap, tap, tapping into one of Adam Sandler’s most beloved characters, Happy Gilmore, for a sequel to the Saturday Night Live alum’s 1996 comedy hole-in-one! On Wednesday, Netflix announced Happy Gilmore 2 during its Upfront presentation, confirming Adam Sandler’s return as the ill-tempered hockey player turned professional golfer.
Happy Gilmore star Christopher MacDonald was the first to say Adam Sandler is developing Happy Gilmore 2 in April. In the original comedy, MacDonald plays Happy’s nemesis on the golf course, Shooter McGavin. During an interview with Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan, MacDonald said he recently spoke with Sandler, who surprised him with a sequel script for the duo’s 1996 sports comedy.
“I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,’” McDonald said. “I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ Maybe you should cut that out [of this audio] because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!”
Happy Gilmore focuses on Happy, a hockey player with anger management issues who, with the help of golf pro Chubbs Peterson (Carl Weathers), joins the PGA Tour to earn enough money to save his grandmother’s house. Happy isn’t precisely a conventional golfer, and his aggressive, slapshot style of play clashes with PGA favorite Shooter McGavin, a self-important asshat in desperate need of a kick in the golf balls. As Happy and Shooter prepare to face one another for the top prize, Shooter uses every dirty trick in the book to keep his title and sabotage Happy’s possible victory.
Adam Sandler is the only star confirmed to return so far. With any luck, Julie Bowen could return to the course as Virginia Venit, the Public Relations Director for the PGA Tour and Happy’s love interest in Happy Gilmore. Sadly, several stars from the first film have passed, including the legendary Carl Weathers, Bob Barker, Joe Flarety, Frances Bay, and Richard Kiel. We’ll be keeping an eye on this project’s development. In the meantime, let us know if you’re excited about Happy Gilmore 2 in the comments below.

Billy Zane was first cast as Marlon Brando all the way back in 2019 – and things have been pretty much silent for the bulk of the five years that followed. But now, with the movie at this year’s Cannes Market, we finally have a look at Zane as Brando…and wow does he nail it!
Billy Zane’s Marlon Brando is from a pivotal era in the legendary actor’s career, with Waltzing with Brando taking place in the late ‘60s into the early ‘70s, when his work shifted dramatically and he reinvented himself. Appropriately, Zane has entirely reinvented his look to portray Brando. Photos made available courtesy of Deadline fresh out of Cannes show Zane on the island of Tetiaroa, which Brando purchased in the 1960s when he had that “private island money.” Brando took to the region while filming 1962’s Mutiny on the Bounty; other key movies that will also be covered are The Godfather and Last Tango in Paris. One image shows Zane as Brando during this time, complete with longer hair, turtleneck and blazer.
Judging just by these photos, Billy Zane’s Marlon Brando is hands-down one of the best visual representations of a historical figure ever, up there with the likes of Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles in Ray, Gary Oldman as Sid Vicious in Sid & Nancy and Denzel Washington as Malcolm X in the namesake film just to name a few. Indeed, if the actual film portrayal can live up to the photos, it might go down as one of the most faithful in movie history.
It’s still quite early, but if Billy Zane can truly pull off Marlon Brando, he could be looking at a Best Actor nomination. After all, voters do love to reward such performances, with six of the past 10 winners being for performances of real-life figures. In the meantime, it’s at least cool to see Zane so committed to the look, which is something that tends to be most criticized in such films, especially if the person is incredibly famous or has a distinct style. (We guess people could overlook the fact that Hugh Jackman couldn’t be farther from resembling P.T. Barnum…)
Billy Zane may seem like an oddball choice to play Marlon Brando but he does have a fascination with the two-time Oscar winner, telling Entertainment Weekly, “The man was a recluse who moved to an island, yet is up all night on shortwave radio [and] can’t sleep alone. He had many children. It’s like, what led to that? He’s full of contradictions. That was touching to me.”
What do you think of Billy Zane’s Marlon Brando? Which performance of a real-life figure do you think had the most accurate look? Give us your choices below!
The Ghoulies franchise has been dormant for thirty years, but it might be coming back in a major way. A couple months ago, Ghoulies director Luca Bercovici, who also wrote the screenplay for the 1984 creature feature with Jefery Levy, announced that he and Levy have reclaimed the domestic rights to Ghoulies and have big plans for the franchise, including making a new trilogy of films, publishing a book series, and launching an exclusive line of figures, apparel, and collectibles. While we wait to see these new films and books, Toynk has unveiled a trio of 14-inch Ghoulies plush toys that will allow fans to take home plush versions of the Fish Ghoulie, Cat Ghoulie, and Rat Ghoulie!
The original Ghoulies had the following synopsis: As a child, Jonathan was almost killed by his father, Malcolm, during a satanic ritual. After being saved and raised by Wolfgang, who has kept him unaware of his background, Jonathan inherits Malcolm’s house and moves in with girlfriend Rebecca. During a party, he jokingly performs a ceremony described in one of his father’s books on black magic, not realizing he has unleashed small, demonic creatures known as “Ghoulies.”
The Ghoulies plush toys can be ordered directly from Toynk, and are also available in stories like Target. The Fish Ghoulie plush has the following description:
