Dune: Part Two, streaming premiere, Max

If you’ve been waiting for the streaming premiere of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, you won’t have long to wait. Warner Bros. announced today that the acclaimed sequel will start streaming exclusively on Max on May 21st, which is just next week.

Dune: Part Two is already available on Digital and was released on Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD today, so the upcoming streaming release means that Paul Atreides’ saga will soon be accessible for all who want it. The Dune sequel explores “the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Dune: Part Two won’t be the end of the saga, as Villeneuve is expected to return for Dune Messiah, but don’t expect that to happen immediately. After spending six years working on the first two movies, Villeneuve is ready for a break. “I felt that it was a good idea to move forward right after Part One. We were already designing, writing et cetera. But it also meant that for six years I was on Arrakis non-stop, and I think it will be healthy to step back a little bit,” Villeneuve said. “First, make sure that we have a strong screenplay. The thing I want to avoid is not having something ready. I never did it, and now I feel it could be dangerous because of the enthusiasm. We need to make sure all the ideas are on paper.

Villeneuve added, “If we go back, it needs to be real, it needs to be relevant, if ever I do Dune Messiah, [it’s] because it’s going to be better than Part Two. Otherwise, I don’t do it.” Just last month, the director said he was already writing the third installment. “That anger [felt by Zendaya’s character at the end of Dune: Part Two] is tremendous,” he said. “I don’t want to reveal what I’m going to do with the third movie. I know exactly what to do. I’m writing it right now. But there’s a lot of firepower there, and I’m very excited about that decision.

Milly Alcock, Supergirl, release date

Warner Bros. has announced the official release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with the DCU movie set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. Additionally, the studio unveiled release dates for several of its other big movies, including Mortal Kombat 2, which will hit theaters on October 24, 2025.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will star Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) in the title role, with the film set to be scripted by Ana Nogueira and based on the Tom King comic series of the same name. Craig Gillespie (Cruella) is expected to direct the movie, but DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has teased that this version of Supergirl will be different. “In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” Gunn said. “She’s much more hardcore, she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re use to seeing.

More to come…

Agatha, release date, title

Marvel’s upcoming WandaVision spin-off starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness finally has an official title—for real this time—and a release date on Disney+.

The Agatha series has been through several titles over the years, including Agatha: House of Harkness, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Agatha: The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe. It turns out those constant title changes were the result of the titular pesky witch, and the actual title was unveiled during Disney’s 2024 Upfront Presentation: Agatha All Along. The first two episodes of the series will debut on Disney+ on September 18th.

Agatha All Along, title

The fitting title takes its name from the viral ear-worm song featuring in WandaVision from composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Admit it, you’re humming it right now. There goes my evening. In addition to Kathryn Hahn as Agatha, the Marvel series also stars Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Emma Caulfield Ford, Maria Dizzia, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Debra Jo Rupp, and Okwui Okpokwasili.

While Agatha All Along will be the next Marvel series to be released on Disney+, the presentation also gave us an idea of when to expect some of the others, including Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart. The Daredevil series, which has experienced a fair share of delays owing to a significant creative overhaul, is expected to launch on Disney+ in March 2025. Fans have been excited to see the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, and the show also includes appearances from other members of the original Netflix series, including Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and more.

As for Ironheart, which features Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), Marvel didn’t announce a release date window for the series, only to confirm that it would also debut in 2025.

What do you think of Agatha All Along as the new (and hopefully final) title for the Marvel series?

If you’ve ever wanted to see Will Ferrell wrestle a not-quite-dead alligator in a hotel room, well, the first teaser trailer for Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming comedy You’re Cordially Invited has got you covered.

A woman (Reese Witherspoon) planning her sister’s (Meredith Hagner) perfect wedding and the father (Will Ferrell) of a young bride-to-be (Geraldine Viswanathan) find out that they are double booked for their destination wedding at a remote resort on an island off the Georgia coast,” reads the official synopsis for You’re Cordially Invited. “When both parties decide to share the small venue, chaos ensues and disaster awaits.

If you’ve ever been involved in organizing a wedding, you know how easy just about anything can turn to pure chaos; toss in a competing wedding party, oh boy. “If I look out on that dock and that bride’s not my baby girl, that bride’s going in the f***ing lake,” Ferrell says in the trailer. “Splish splash, bitch, taking a bath.” To which Witherspoon replies, “I’m gonna kick your ass, and it’s gonna be embarrassing, because you’re big and I’m little.

Written and directed by Nicholas Stoller, who you might know from Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Neighbors, the film stars Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon, Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, Jimmy Tatro, Stony Blyden, Leanne Morgan, Rory Scovel, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Ramona Young, Jack McBrayer and Celia Weston.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar last year, Witherspoon said You’re Cordially Invited harkens back to the days of feel-good comedies. “I think the human capacity to handle as much heartbreak and tragedy that’s happened in the world is really diminished,” she said. “I think of opportunities to make movies and television shows that are joyful, optimistic, funny … I think about what I want to see on a Friday night, and while I can appreciate a true-crime show or a podcast, I really need some levity. I think the world is looking for a little brightness.

You’re Cordially Invited will premiere on Prime Video on January 30, 2025. What did you think of the You’re Cordially Invited trailer?

If you’ve been sleeping on Tubi, you should give the free, ad-supported streaming service a try. They have quite an extensive library of horror movies, ranging from old-school classics like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to unknown gems. They’ve also got their own line of Tubi Originals, and the latest will hit the service in just a few days: Killer Body Count, a slasher from director Daniskha Esterhazy set at a rehab center for sex addicts. Check out the new trailer for Killer Body Count above!

Mistaken for a sex addict by her devout father, Cami is sent to an isolated rehab center,” reads the official synopsis for Killer Body Count. “But when a killer begins to hunt the teens, Cami realizes that her survival and her independence are intertwined in ways she could never imagine.” The film stars Cassiell Eatock-Winnik as Cami George, Savana Tardieu as Wyatt, N’Kone Mametja as Mia, Khosi Ngema as Ali, Alex McGregor as Tawny, Bjorn Steinbach as Eugene, and Jessie Diepeveen as Bree.

Director Danishka Esterhazy is best known for The Banana Splits Movie and the remake of Slumber Party Massacre. Our own Alex Maidy had a lot of fun with the contemporary reimagining of the classic slasher. “Slumber Party Massacre successfully addresses the male and female gaze, the Bechdel Test, and virtually every trope of the 1980s slasher genre,” Maidy wrote. “It works far better when it is in solid satire mode and wobbles a bit when it switches into a more conventional horror tone. Still, this movie is a lot of bloody fun and works thanks to an ensemble of likable actors playing characters you want to root for while simultaneously paying homage to the original 1982 movie. Slumber Party Massacre is a fun blast of gore that does a great job of taking social commentary and weaving it into a story about bludgeoning people to death rather than beating us over the head with it.” You can check out the rest of Maidy’s review right here.
