Month: June 2024

For the past several years, anytime Jonathan Glatzer picks up his proverbial pen, he creates content that gels for scores of fans. With 19 episodes of Succession, 20 episodes of Better Call Saul, 13 episodes of Bloodline, and more to his credit, Glatzer is one of the industry’s top talents in the realm of must-see television drama. I hope you’re ready for another exciting project from this in-demand creative. Glatzer is tackling Silicon Valley’s shady, seedy, and evolving world, where some of today’s most significant ideas live and die.

AMC Networks is giving the green light to Jonathan Glatzer’s untitled Silicon Valley series. Glatzer is writing the project. According to the project’s logline, Glatzer’s upcoming endeavor is set “inside the bubble of Silicon Valley, amid misguided corporate cultures, moony innovation labs and cutthroat private high schools.” The series centers on a scandal sparked by “the exploitation of personal data which unravels out of a rift between a self-appointed ‘inventor of the future’ tech CEO and his self-serving ‘performance psychologist.’ This act of corruption quickly spirals out of control for all involved, exposing the absurdities of ambition, corporate ethics, and the fallibility of the people who are shaping the future of our world.”

“Jonathan is a massive talent and AMC is lucky to be the home of this, his first series creation brought to life,” said AMC Networks’ president of entertainment and AMC Studios, Dan McDermott. “The show, which chronicles the lives of characters creating the world we will all inhabit, is right here and right now. Truth is stranger than fiction, especially here.” McDermott says Glatzer’s latest presents a “captivating, enthralling, authentic look behind the curtain of Silicon Valley.”

Regarding the Silicon Valley-centric project, Glatzer said “frighteningly self-involved people” control the tech Wonderland. We know scumbags are Glatzer’s bread and butter, and Silicon Valley is home to many. Someone is going to have a lot of fun playing Glatzer’s resident “tech bro,” I assure you.

“They radiate a bizarre, semi-deity-like energy, but even they cannot escape their own humanity,” Glatzer said about the kinds of people who slither through Silicon Valley. “So rather than do something directly about ‘tech,’ I wanted to focus on the people. And not just the titans, but the antsy wannabe titans, the kids and spouses of the wannabes; their housekeepers, their schools, their psychiatrists, their dogs and gurus alike, all of them living in this bubble where they truly believe — and perhaps rightly — they are inventing the future, dogs excepted.”

I can’t think of a better project for Glatzer to sink his teeth into. I hope he takes the people associated with Silicon Valley to task, exposing their habits, beliefs, and delusions in ways that only he can.

Allegoria Krsy Fox

A couple years ago, Spider One – the frontman of Powerman 5000 and the brother of fellow musician/filmmaker Rob Zombie – made his feature directorial debut with the horror anthology Allegoria. He has since followed that with Bury the Bride, and has Little Bites on the way. Now we have learned that Spider One is already working on his fourth feature film, Big Baby, which has Terrifier‘s Catherine Corcoran and Terrifier 3‘s Krsy Fox in the cast and counts Cher as an executive producer.

Big Baby will tell the story of Adam Lewis, a successful horror screenwriter struggling for inspiration for his latest script. After a graphic and realistic nightmare of a hulking man dressed in a baby mask and onesie who axe murders his girlfriend Kate in the middle of the night, Adam gets the inspiration he needs for his new screenplay. Excited about the direction his story is taking, he starts losing himself in his script. Things are better than ever for Adam and Kate until “Big Baby” starts appearing in real life and tormenting and killing victims fueled by his own revenge. Characters from Adam’s script begin to pay him visits pleading for their lives, and he quickly realizes he holds their fate in his hands. Power and fear completely consume Adam until his girlfriend Kate is terrified of the man she once loved.

Brandon Scott (Dead to Me) is playing Adam Lewis, with Fox taking on the role of Kate. Adam Marcinowski (Allegoria) plays Big Baby. Also in the cast are Jordan Elsass (Little Fires Everywhere), Radek Lord (Ballers), Torio Van Grol (Accident, Suicide or Murder), Kate Freund (Creepshow), Cameron Cowperthwaite (Station 19), Kirby Bliss Blanton (Project X), Nelson Leis (The Last of Us), and Chaz Bono (American Horror Story).

Big Baby is coming our way from OneFox Productions. One and Fox are producing, while Cher and Bono executive produce alongside Tyler Connolly, Terry Poor, and Wendy and Mark Berry.

Spider One provided the following statement: “My goal for Big Baby was to turn the slasher genre inside out… to craft a meta script about creation and those creations coming to life. It’s a terrifying premise centered around a writer desperately trying to control the narrative of his script and his life, which of course proves to be an impossible task
with deadly consequences.

The idea of Big Baby goes back to Allegoria, where Big Baby was a goofy, dirt cheap slasher that characters are shown watching. I said in my Allegoria review that “I’d gladly watch a feature version of Big Baby.” Now we’re getting one, with a meta twist.

Andrew Lincoln

With The Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, Andrew Lincoln seems to have finally wrapped up his time making his way through the zombie-filled post-apocalypse as lawman Rick Grimes… and now Deadline reports that he’s moving on by signing to star in and executive produce the British TV thriller Cold Water, which is set up at ITV.

Playwright David Ireland is writing the series, which is being produced by Eric production company Sister. Lincoln will be taking on the role of John, a repressed man who who is shocked to find himself in middle age, secretly raging at his life as a stay-at-home dad. He moves to a backwater Scottish village and strikes up a friendship with next door neighbor Tommy, who is despised by wife Fiona. When her husband’s relationship with their enigmatic new neighbour becomes increasingly intense, Fiona’s suspicions are aroused. She is unconvinced Tommy is all he seems to be.

Lincoln is being joined in the cast by Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting), Indira Varma (Obsession) and Eve Myles (Keeping Faith). Bremner is playing Tommy, with Varma playing Fiona.

Ireland previously wrote the Sky series The Lovers and had an acting role in the Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls. He provided the following statement: “Cold Water started with a question I was asking myself. Where do I want to live – the countryside or the city? Such an innocent beginning, but from it came this dark, funny, twisted thriller. And I’m amazed we’ve managed to attract such a peerless cast, led by the formidable Andrew Lincoln.

ITV Head of Drama Polly Hill added: “David’s scripts are wonderful, and original and have attracted an incredible cast led by Andrew Lincoln. It promises to be a really unmissable drama.

Lincoln and Ireland are executive producing Cold Water with Chris Fry, Alice Tyler, Lydia Hampson, and Jane Featherstone. Brian Coffey is producing. Filming will begin sometime later in 2024.
