Andor, season 2, Krennic

With Andor season 2 set to bring the story right up to the beginning of Rogue One, it stands to reason that we should see a few familiar characters from the movie, including Ben Mendelsohn as Imperial Director Orson Krennic.

As Krennic is one of the main architects of the Death Star, it would make sense for him to appear in Andor season 2, but Mendelsohn had previously suggested that he would not return for the series. “As for being contacted by Lucasfilm for a new project, I can tell you that no, I have not been approached for something like this,” the actor said earlier this year. However, Andor season 2 director Alonso Ruizpalacios may have let it slip to The Playlist that the actor will be returning after all.

The director, who will be helming the last three episodes of the 12-episode series, told the outlet, “directing episodes of the series was a treat, especially directing heavyweight actors like, ‘Stellan Skarsgård, Forest Whitaker, and Ben Mendelsohn,’ presumably not realizing he was revealing something of a spoiler.” Although Skarsgård and Whitaker appeared in the first season of the Star Wars series, Mendelsohn did not. The other episodes of the new season will be helmed by Ariel Kleiman and Janus Metz.

Prior to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Andor season 2 was previously reported to be on track for an August 2024 release, but the delays caused by the strike obviously pushed that back. As for when the series will return, Stellan Skarsgård has said, “It will probably be out towards the end of the year or early next.” The actor, who plays Luthen Rael in the series, also seems to think that the second season will be just as good as the first. “It’s the last season of it. It ends where Rogue One starts so it’s up to that point,” he said. “I think it will be very good as already the first one was satisfying for me because it’s sort of Star Wars for grown-ups – it’s a more realistic and complicated society that they’re living in and the claustrophobia of the fascist regime is palpable. I think we have a good season ahead of us.

Jimmy Buffett, Jurassic World, action figure

You may recall that the late Jimmy Buffett made a cameo appearance in Jurassic World as an attendee of the park who “saves” two margaritas during the dimorphodon attack. It’s a funny moment, but now his character will become an official Mattel action figure.

Mattel announced the “Jurassic World Hammond Collection Bubbles Up Jimmy Buffett Figure” today, which will launch on July 25th at 9am PT for $30.

The Jurassic World Jimmy Buffett action figure “wears his island apparel, including sunglasses and flip-flops. He stands atop a margarita-style platform, surrounded by ‘flying’ dimorphodons that circle him as the tiki hut-style base turns.” In honor of Buffett’s philanthropic legacy, Mattel will also be donating $5,000 and 5,000 toys to Singing for Change.

  • Figure stands 3.75 inches tall
  • Margarita glass lights up and plays music when you turn the base
  • Authentic sounds including whirring blender and swarming dimorphodons
  • Figure holds two drink glasses; we included a “lost shaker of salt” accessory
  • Premium margarita blender packaging structure with custom artwork

The next installment of the Jurassic World franchise is currently filming, with Gareth Edwards (Rogue One) directing from a script by David Koepp, who penned the original Jurassic Park screenplay. It’s been said the project is a “completely fresh take, launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the Island.” The new sequel will star Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Mahershala Ali (Green Book), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Rupert Friend (Anatomy of a Scandal), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Luna Blaise (Manifest), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), and newcomer Audrina Miranda.

Although Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion didn’t receive the best reviews upon release, they did quite well at the box office, earning $1.3 billion and $1 billion, respectively. Universal clearly believes that there’s plenty of juice left in the franchise.

Even before the release of Jurassic World: Dominion, franchise producer Frank Marshall was already keen on continuing the series. “[Dominion] is going to wrap up this [Jurassic World] trilogy, but we’re not resting on our laurels,” Marshall said. “We’re going to sit down, and we’re going to see what the future is. We have that wonderful series, Camp Cretaceous, on Netflix. We obviously want to make quality, good movies with great storytelling, great writers and directors, but we’re definitely looking to do more in the Jurassic world.

23 Jump Street, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill

If you’d like to feel old today, perhaps you’d like to know that it’s been ten years since the release of 22 Jump Street. Although another sequel may seem unlikely at this point, Channing Tatum told ComicBook.com that he’s still holding out hope for 23 Jump Street.

You know what, I’m going to put some good juju out there and I’m going to say I would love to see 23 Jump Street,” Tatum said. “I would love to do it with Jonah, and Jonah I know wants to do it. We would love to just get to go play again.” The actor added that the project is “still the best script that I’ve ever read for a third movie.

When asked what happened with the sequel, Tatum said, “It’s just a lot of bureaucracy, kind of above the line stuff. It’s really hard to get it made and we’ve been trying to get it done.

Sony Pictures did get the ball rolling on the sequel shortly after the release of 22 Jump Street, and it was later revealed during the Sony hack that the project was to be a crossover with the Men in Black franchise. The idea was crazy enough that it might just have been brilliant, but unfortunately, it was scrapped.

Christopher Miller, who co-directed both movies with Phil Lord, was also a big fan of the 21 Jump Street/Men in Black crossover. “There was, believe it or not, a Men In Black/Jump Street crossover script that was very funny and very crazy that we really adored,” Miller said in 2022. “The idea was that Jonah and Channing, a thing happened while they were doing their medical school adventure that got them embroiled into the world of Men in Black, and they ended up teaming up to stop an alien takeover type of thing. It was very funny, it was very crazy trying to manage these two franchises and not drive them both into the ground seemed like a real challenge.” Phil Lord added that one of his favourite ideas from the Men in Black/21 Jump Street crossover was that the “black suits were like martial arts belts that you had to work your way up to black, and [Hill & Tatum] were issued powder blue Men in Black suits.” The pair added that the crossover “came very close to happening” before it was shelved.
