Apparently it’s update day in the world of current-gen consoles. The PlayStation 5 is finally getting direct Discord integration and other improvements, while the Xbox Series X/S address dynamic background and Wi-Fi password frustrations. This is the lowkey console UX war we love to see.

Word around the Hollywood water cooler is that Oppenheimer and The Fall Guy actress Emily Blunt is eyeing a role in Steven Spielberg’s next summer box office smasher. Amblin Entertainment and Universal are the studios, and the film is based on Spielberg’s story and a script by Jurassic Park’s David Koepp. Kristie Macosko Krieger is producing, with Emily Blunt possibly starring alongside another lead.
There are no plot details, but Universal plans to release the film on May 15, 2026, making it a box office barn burner to light up the summer. Word has it that Spielberg is a big Emily Blunt fan, and his admiration for her work dates back to when she starred in the Amblin-produced adaptation of The Girl on the Train. Spielberg also enjoyed Blunt’s latest feature, The Fall Guy, in which she plays an up-and-coming director looking to make her mark while repairing her relationship with an estranged stunt performer.
Blunt’s reputation for working alongside some of the film industry’s most celebrated filmmakers, like Christopher Nolan, Denis Villeneuve, Rob Marshall, Doug Liman, and Rian Johnson, precedes her. Teaming up with Steven Spielberg would be another feather in Blunt’s already ornate cap. Spielberg’s 2026 tentpole is reportedly a UFO story.
In addition to this project, we reported that Spielberg has been working on a new movie based on Bullitt, the classic action thriller starring Steve McQueen. The project received an update late last year from Kristie Macosko Krieger, one of Spielberg’s producing partners. “I’m producing it. Steven [Spielberg] and Josh Singer, who is writing the script, they are working on the story,” Krieger said. “I hope we have a script soon as the writers’ strike put us behind a bit. But they are working on it – I couldn’t tell you if it’s the next movie we are making as I don’t know at this point. I think that it will be a wildly entertaining film.”
Are you excited about Emily Blunt potentially working with Steven Spielberg on a UFO film? Who could join the project as the film’s co-lead? Let’s see your suggestions in the comments.
Atomic Monster, the production company headed up by genre regular James Wan, is teaming with Amazon Studios to produce a psychological thriller series based on the best-selling novel 56 Days, by Catherine Ryan Howard (pick up a copy HERE). Titled Obsession, this adaptation of Howard’s work got an official series order at the end of last year, and last month we learned that Dove Cameron of Schmigadoon! and Descendants and Avan Jogia, who dealt with zombies in both Zombieland: Double Tap and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, have been cast in the lead roles. Now they have their first pair of co-stars. Cameron and Jogia are being joined in the cast of Obsession by Karla Souza of How to Get Away with Murder and Dive, and Dorian Missick of The Burial and Shirley.
Lisa Zwerling and Karyn Usher, who were behind the Starz drama The Rook, are writing the adaptation and serve as executive producers alongside Sandrine Gros d’Aillon, Wan, and Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Rob Hackett. Danielle Bozzone will oversee the series for Atomic Monster. Howard is a co-executive producer. The first two episodes of the adaptation are being directed by Alethea Jones, whose credits include episodes of Evil, Shining Vale, Mrs. Davis, and Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.
Written by Howard during the pandemic lockdown in Dublin back in 2020, 56 Days is set during that very same lockdown. It tells the story of an intense, erotic romance that turns deadly. It follows two young professionals, striking out on their own in a new city, who are entangled quickly in a charged relationship that leads to a powerful intimacy that is soon cracked open by their secrets … and to murder. Here’s the book description: No one even knew they were together. Now one of them is dead. 56 DAYS AGO: Ciara and Oliver meet in a supermarket queue in Dublin and start dating the same week COVID-19 reaches Irish shores. 35 DAYS AGO: When lockdown threatens to keep them apart, Oliver suggests they move in together. Ciara sees a unique opportunity for a relationship to flourish without the scrutiny of family and friends. Oliver sees a chance to hide who — and what — he really is. TODAY: Detectives arrive at Oliver’s apartment to discover a decomposing body inside. Can they determine what really happened, or has lockdown created an opportunity for someone to commit the perfect crime?
The Obsession adaptation is not set during the pandemic lockdown, but it will center on Oliver and Ciara, who meet randomly in a supermarket and quickly fall into a relationship. Fifty-six days later, homicide investigators arrive at Oliver’s apartment to find an unidentified body — brutally murdered and intentionally decomposed. Did he kill her? Did she kill him? Intercutting between an intense single day in the present investigation and the twisted trajectory of the young lovers’ affair in the past, the series is both a unique crime story and a riveting, erotic, psychological thriller.
We assume that Jogia and Cameron are playing Oliver and Ciara. Souza’s character is Lee Reardon, “a dedicated, experienced Boston homicide detective who, despite many flaws in the system, is a deep believer in justice. But she’s harboring a dark secret that challenges everything she stands for and threatens to destroy the most important relationship in her life.” Missick will be playing Karl. “Disorganized and in the midst of a horny midlife crisis, Karl Connelly’s life appears to be a chaotic mess. But despite his reckless habits and short-fused temper, he is a gifted detective and unflinchingly honest and loyal to the people he cares about.”

With shows like Six Feet Under, Good Grief, Fun at the Funeral Parlor, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina putting the “fun” back in funeral homes, it’s high time a show came along to remind audiences how grim and mysterious these houses of death can be. That’s why I’d like to bring Chop Shop to your attention. Deadline says a new series starring Christina Ricci (Wednesday, Yellowjackets, Black Snake Moan) and Hamish Linklater (Legion, Midnight Mass, Tell Me Your Secrets) is gaining buzz as it prepares to court a network.
Inspired by the Kathy Braidhill novel, Chop Shop retells the true crime story about the Lamb Funeral Home in 1980s Los Angeles. The following description comes courtesy of Deadline‘s exclusive article: When David Sconce — the Machiavellian scion of a Bible college football coach and a church organist — takes the reins of the family business, the seemingly All-American clan begins a jaw-dropping descent from saints to sinners. Desperate to keep their funeral home afloat, Sconce engineers a sinister new business strategy, replete with human body harvesting and mass cremation. The script will paint a harrowing portrait of hubris against the neon greed of the era, where insatiable ambition turns a former football star into a SoCal sociopath.
Hamish Linklater plays David Sconce in the series, while Christina Ricci portrays a journalist inspired by Braidhill. Andy Bellin is writing the script, and Ricci, Laura Rister, and Untitled Entertainment are producing it. The search for directors and showrunners is in progress. While we wait for Chop Shop to open shop, Bellin’s upcoming project, The Baccarat Machine, starring Awkwafina, is in pre-production. The Baccarat Machine focuses on a young Chinese woman who becomes modern history’s most successful female gambler after partnering up with a legendary poker player.
Are you interested in learning more about Chop Shop? Which network or streamer will eagerly get their hands on this one? Do you find funeral homes unnerving? I wouldn’t say I like the smell of most flowers, so funeral homes tend to overwhelm my olfactory modality. Let us know if you’re looking forward to Chop Shop in the comments below.
