Tim Meadows, Peacemaker, Max, DC, John Cena

Live from New York, it’s another addition to the cast of Peacemaker Season 2! James Gunn is hard at work managing the rebirth of the DCU. Still, he’s taking time out of his busy schedule to announce that Saturday Night Live alum Tim Meadows is joining the cast of Peacemaker. Gunn posted about Meadows joining Peacemaker on Instagram. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine guest star is all smiles in the photo while wearing a tye-dye Nike hoodie. Meadows looks thrilled to join the series, and we’re excited to have someone as funny as Meadows joining the cast.

Meadows plays the A.R.G.U.S. agent Langston Fleury for Peacemaker Season 2, joining the helmeted hero’s cohorts in the fight against evil. In addition to Meadows joining the cast, Deadline says Superbad filmmaker Greg Mottola is directing a few episodes of the new season. Gunn is smack dab in the middle of production on Superman, with filming in Atlanta soon moving to Cleveland.

In February, Gunn comments on returning to Peacemaker by saying, “Creating Peacemaker has been one of the true highlights of my life, both professionally and otherwise, with John Cena and the incredible creative team around me, as well as our partners at HBO Max. To have something we all love so much be loved by the audience in turn has been a wonderful experience. I can’t wait for folks to see where Team Peacemaker goes in Season Two!”

Tim Meadows recently appeared in the Mean Girls musical, starring Reneé Rapp, Angourie Rice, and Auli’i Cravalho. Elsewhere, Tim Meadows stars in the upcoming comedy Our Little Secret, starring Lindsay Lohan, Chris Parnell, and Kristen Chenoweth. The plot of Our Little Secret focuses on two resentful exes who must awkwardly spend Christmas together after learning their new partners are siblings. Meadows also voices Filbin Nutwagon in the upcoming animation Saurus City, starring Emma Roberts, Dennis Quaid, Ron Perlman, Julia Ormond, and Aimee Garcia. Saurus City tells what happens when a grizzled knight is called upon to help a distressed young lady. He discovers the entire Dinosaur Kingdom is in danger and embarks on an epic journey, risking life and limb, to deliver the one thing that will save them all…a baby.

Napoleon Dynamite

Twenty years ago, quirky indie comedy Napoleon Dynamite was untethered, giving the world a socially awkward teen to root for, a seemingly endless string of quotes and even a llama that just wouldn’t eat the ham. And while things worked out for the characters at the end of the movie, they may not have fared so well two decades later.

As Napoleon Dynamite star Jon Heder put it, “I think it’s not looking very good for most of them.” On where Napoleon himself is, Heder added, “Napoleon is probably paying child support to two different moms, with two different kids…maybe Trisha was a fling. Like, ‘Let’s give it a go…no, I was right the first time.’ It didn’t work out with Deb, but he really wants to make it work with Deb so he’s like, ‘I’ve gotta get some political sway to pull some cool favors.’ So he goes to his best friend, who’s in some high places.”

That best friend, of course, is Pedro, who portrayer Efren Ramirez thinks went on to marry crush Summer Wheatley. He, too, has taken his political aspirations to the next level, running for city council (possibly in Preston?). “But not only that — he’d probably have a law firm, Sánchez and Sánchez, along with Summer, and they’re working together as a team. And they’ll say, ‘I’ll build you a case or something,’” playing off a line from Napoleon Dynamite.

And then there’s Uncle Rico, played by Jon Gries. According to Gries, he’s pretty much up to the same shenanigans that would get him into trouble throughout his life. “He started his own YouTube channel, Backyard Teenage Wrestling. He’s [had] some subpoenas, ’cause kids have broken arms and broken ankles from jumping off of roofs onto tables and things. But he has a good plan. Anyway, he might go to Sánchez and Sánchez, to get him out of trouble.”

All of this sounds like the perfect set-up for a Napoleon Dynamite 2, which was actually in discussion not that long ago. Prior to that, we got an animated series in 2012. It was, unlike the legacy of the movie, short-lived. While we may never really get a Napoleon Dynamite sequel, that’s probably for the better, because whether you love it or hate it (“Gosh!”), some movies just belong in their time.

Thanksgiving

Over the last few years, Stop the Killer Games has brought us board games that were inspired by classic slasher movies like My Bloody Valentine, Halloween II, and Silent Night, Deadly Night. Now they have a new slasher movie-inspired board coming our way this November – and the inspiration for this one is more modern than the movies that previously got the board game treatment. In fact, this one was just released last year! It’s Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving (read our review HERE, check out our interview with Roth at THIS LINK) and Thanksgiving: John Carver’s Carving Board Game is available for pre-order through the Stop the Killer website.

Designed by Roth and Jon Cohn, Thanksgiving: John Carver’s Carving Board Game has the following description: In this game based on Eli Roth’s hit film, players start by attending an in-store Black Friday sale that gets way out of hand, with people dying in horrific ways in every aisle! But things go from bad to worse because a killer wearing a John Carver mask is also on the loose murdering the townsfolk in droves! Unlike the movie, you are rewarded for dying… A LOT! The player who dies the most is revealed to be John Carver, triggering a final battle between the rest of the players and Carver! Who will win? And more importantly, will they be thankful for their victory?

The game was produced by Anthony Masi and Nate Ragon, with promotion and development by Fright Rags, and illustration by Zachary Jackson Brown.

Roth told our friends at Bloody Disgusting, “When we started production on Thanksgiving, Jeff Rendell gave me the board game Silent Night, Deadly Night. I had it in my office during shooting, I thought it was so hilarious and perverse, we actually said, ‘What if we made a board game out of Thanksgiving?’ By complete coincidence, the team at Stop the Killer reached out to me after the film was released, and I said not only do I want to do it, I had specifically been thinking about all the things we could do if we were ever to make one. I worked with the incredible team of game masters, writers, designers, and horror uber-fans to come up with something that was not only fun, but was playable multiple times with different ridiculous results. I dreamed of making a game that you could play after you watched the movie, or if you wanted to live in the world of the game and go deeper into the strange characters and twisted killings, you can go inside the film through the game. I wanted real participation not just in trying to win, but in audience creativity. If you’re good at coming up with great kills, you just might be able to survive John Carver’s Carving Board. I was deeply involved in every aspect of the game, and wanted something that could ruin any family Thanksgiving gathering.

Cohn added, “Eli laid out three very clear mandates for the game: create the most offensive holiday game ever, make it easy enough for Grandma to learn, and make sure Grandma absolutely hates it. I’ve made a number of licensed games in my career, but this was the first time I had a chance to co-design a project alongside the actual creator. Eli has been an incredible collaborator on this game, he’s been dedicated every step of the way to push the experience into something tailor-made for anyone who is a fan of Thanksgiving. In every meeting, Eli has been incredibly supportive of the game’s direction, and is always ready with an idea to elevate the game to the next level. He even went as far as writing an entire deck of trivia cards specifically for players visiting McCarty’s Party (the only safe place in Plymouth)! During each round, one player assumes the role of John Carver, then acts as Judge, Jury, and Executioner as the rest of the players take their turns. Those players will be prompted to provide the most outrageous, gory, and gross answers possible, leaving it up to the current Carver player to choose who dies at any given moment. One of the hardest aspects of making games based on horror films is figuring out how to deal with the fact that there’s a murderer going around killing all of the characters you’re supposed to be playing as. Thanks to Eli’s mandate, I came up with an idea that’s sort of the opposite experience of most horror games. In Thanksgiving, you actually WANT to die… a lot!

I haven’t had the chance to play the Stop the Killer games yet, but they sound like a blast, and this Thanksgiving board game definitely sounds like something I would like to add to my collection.

Gus (Christian Convery) and Jepperd’s (Nonso Anozie) epic journey through a broken world overrun by sickness and crumbling salvation is at an end. With a new world order on the horizon, humankind could be on the brink of its last gasp as a new species ascends to dominion over land and sky. Netflix‘s Sweet Tooth is one of the streamer’s most eye-opening series as the story confronts the abuse of Mother Nature, the segregation of a marginalized hybrid community, and the promise of a new rise to power as humans cope with losing a Darwinian battle worldwide. Thankfully, gifted creators and actors from Sweet Tooth, including showrunner Jim Mickle, executive producers Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell, and actors Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, and Rosalind Chao, are here to usher us through the apocalypse.

Speaking with Jim, we get the exclusive scoop on the status of a Cold in July follow-up, which indie comic book property he’d adapt next, and what resonates with him about Sweet Tooth’s inspiring odyssey. For Christian and Nonso, we learn what props the duo kept after wrapping the series, how working on the show changed their faith in humanity, and what snacks they’d bring to the apocalypse. Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell discuss their motivation for getting Gus’s mission to the small screen, what goes into prepping a series as massive as Sweet Tooth, and the funniest “oops” of the show’s long-running production. Finally, we speak with the iconic Rosalind Chao about her villainous turn as Helen Zhang, a vile Cruella de Vil-like character, out to wipe Hybrids off the face of the Earth. Rosalind brings us behind the camera for her character’s most vicious scene, discusses interacting with the young cast, and more.

After watching the video, check out our spoiler-free review for Sweet Tooth Season 3. You will want to experience this incredible adaptation of Jeff Lemire’s post-apocalyptic fairytale of survival, evolution, and resetting the globe. It’s been a few weeks since I finished the series, and I’m still thinking about it. Please enjoy these fantastic discussions with the creators and cast. Speaking with them and digging deep into this emotional and inspiring story was an honor.
