There won’t be any horrific clowns leaping out of furniture to scare unsuspecting guests in Ellen DeGeneres‘s future after the former daytime talk show host and comedian revealed she’s “done” after her upcoming Netflix special. During a standup routine at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, the once-celebrated DeGeneres updated the crowd about her life after exiting the spotlight.

“Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me,” she said. “I got chickens. Oh yeah, and I got kicked out of show business for being mean.”

Well, that’s a bit reductive. DeGeneres lost her position high atop Celebrity Mountain after staff members of The Ellen DeGeneres Show said she ran a toxic work environment. When staffers came forward about the subpar treatment, DeGeneres issued the following statement:

“On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ would be a place of happiness – no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect,” DeGeneres said. “Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case. And for that, I am sorry. Anyone who knows me knows it’s the opposite of what I believe and what I hoped for our show.”

Most waved DeGeneres’s apology away, leaving her career in a state of flux and uncertainty. During her recent standup routine, DeGeneres “admitted to being harsh and said she was a very immature boss,” according to SFGate.com. “I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me,’” DeGeneres reportedly said. “Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity.”

Sometimes, canceled celebrities hibernate briefly before returning to the scene to salvage what’s left of their career. Conversely, DeGeneres is not interested in returning to people’s good graces and would instead burn up rather than fade away. When asked if she’d pursue a different Hollywood path, DeGeneres said, “This is the last time you’re going to see me,” she said. “After my Netflix special, I’m done.”

Do you think Ellen DeGeneres deserves another chance at success? Are you disappointed she’s quitting the business for good after her Netflix special? Let us know in the comments section below.

Troy Kotsur Coda

At the start of last year, former DC Films boss Walter Hamada signed a first-look deal with Paramount Pictures, the idea being that he would become, as Deadline put it, “the architect of Paramount’s mainstream horror genre pod, with the mission to release several low- to mid-budget films per year across theatrical and streaming.” Now Deadline has an update on Hamada’s horror-minded efforts at Paramount, as they’re reporting that the studio has given the greenlight to the Hamada-produced horror film Primate, which has Oscar-winner Troy Kotsur attached to star.

Kotsur won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film CODA, becoming the first deaf male actor and only the second deaf actor overall to win an Oscar. (The other being his CODA co-star Marlee Matlin, who took home the gold for her role in Children of a Lesser God.) Kotsur’s other credits include Wild Prairie Rose, No Ordinary Hero, Universal Signs, The Number 23, and episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Mandalorian, Criminal Minds, Scrubs, and CSI: NY, among others.

At the helm of Primate is genre regular Johannes Roberts, who has previously directed Hellbreeder, Darkhunters, Forest of the Damned, F, Roadkill, Storage 24, The Other Side of the Door, 47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. He also contributed a segment to the horror anthology V/H/S/99.

Roberts has written the screenplay with his frequent collaborator Ernest Riera… but plot details are currently being kept under wraps. So, for now, we can only image what a Johannes Roberts horror movie that’s called Primate and has Troy Kotsur in the lead might be about. Is Roberts moving on from shark thrills to monkey thrills? We’ll have to wait and find out.

It was recently announced that a third movie in the 47 Meters Down franchise, 47 Meters Down: The Wreck, is coming our way. Roberts and Riera wrote the screenplay, but Roberts has passed directing duties on that one over to My Bloody Valentine 3D director Patrick Lussier.

Horizon: An American Saga, Kevin Costner, theatrical

Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 2 will no longer be released in theaters on August 16. After a dismal opening for Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 earlier this month, the sequel’s fate remains in limbo. This unfortunate news delivers a harsh blow to the adult-focused film market, particularly for audience demos in the 50+ range. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 continues to screen in theaters, though a July 16 digital release date for the film is already on the horizon.

There are no plans to port Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 2 to Max, and theatrical plans for the film’s release remain uncertain. Whispers around the Hollywood water cooler say Chapter 2 could get a day-and-date release in theaters and on digital, but nothing is concrete. Unsubstantiated reports say the movie is getting pulled outright, but that claim has no validity. It sounds like madness, but theaters could have been a poor choice of venue for Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1. While the film’s epic scope plays well on the silver screen, much of Costner’s Yellowstone audience is comfortable watching the actor do his thing on television. Going to the movies is hella expensive nowadays, and folks might not want to pay high-end prices to see a multi-part Western in cinemas.

Clint Howard

Writer/director Damien Leone had a budget of around $55,000 to work with on his breakout horror film Terrifier, and a budget of “a little over” $250,000 for Terrifier 2, which was a massive hit when it was released last year, earning $15.1 million at the box office. Since the second film did so well, Terrifier 3 has a substantially higher budget. A “couple million” is going into this one, and we’re going to get the chance to see how that translates to the screen when the film receives a theatrical release on October 11th. Filming wrapped a while back, but our friends at Bloody Disgusting have just announced the names of several cast members: Jon Abrahams of Scary Movie, Antonella Rose of Fear the Walking Dead, Krsy Fox of Bury the Bride, and legendary character actor Clint Howard – whose many credits include The Wraith, 3 from Hell, Ice Cream Man, The Waterboy, Ticks, Carnosaur; Silent Night, Deadly Night 4; Star Trek, and around 250 other titles.

Fox’s involvement was first revealed in a report about filmmaker Spider One’s new horror movie Big Baby a couple of weeks ago.

Terrifier 3 has the following synopsis: Art the Clown is set to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve

David Howard Thornton reprises the role of Art the Clown, a character who was first introduced in Leone’s 2013 anthology All Hallows’ Eve (although Thornton didn’t start playing him until Terrifier). Also in the cast are Lauren LaVera, who’s back as Terrifier 2 heroine Sienna; Elliot Fullam returns as Sienna’s brother Jonathan, Samantha Scaffidi is returning as Terrifier and Terrifier 2 character Victoria Heyes, and Daniel Roebuck, who has been cast in the role of Santa Claus. FX legend Tom Savini will also be showing up, in an unspecified role. Chris Jericho, who had a cameo in Terrifier 2, is back in Terrifier 3 – but he has let everyone know that his appearance in the film won’t last very long.

Leone has said that this new sequel will be going back to the tone of the first movie, as he’s aiming to make the third film the scariest, goriest, and most depraved of the bunch. He’ll be pulling back on the mystical/fantasy element that was so prevalent in the second film, and is also aiming to make sure this one will be less than two hours long, since the second one surpassed the two hour mark. If you’re worried that Terrifier 3 might wrap the franchise up as a trilogy, have no fear. Leone knows that horror franchises always continue, and anything’s possible once the supernatural gets involved. So even if he brings a sequel to a satisfying conclusion for himself as the creator of the franchise, the door can always be opened to more sequels.

Are you looking forward to Terrifier 3? Are you glad to hear that Clint Howard, Jon Abrahams, Antonella Rose, and Krsy Fox are in the cast? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
