Sirens, Kevin Bacon, Glenn Howerton, Netflix

Glenn Howerton (Blackberry, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) is about to know what it’s like to become a source for people’s “six degrees of Kevin Bacon” after he and the Footloose actor joined the cast of Netflix‘s upcoming dark comedy series Sirens. Kevin Bacon (Tremors, Hollow Man, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F) and Glenn Howerton join headliners Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right, Still Alice, Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus, Miss Sloane, The Bold Type), and Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Superman) for the series about sisterly love gone sour when one of them falls for a manipulative billionaire and their lavish lifestyle.

Kevin Bacon plays Michaela’s husband, Peter Kell, in Sirens. Peter comes from “old money,” and is the center of attention whenever he enters a room. People hang on to his every word and whim. I already hate him. Peter loves the outdoors and the occasional spliff. Okay, maybe I don’t hate him as much as I thought. Perhaps I can convince him to invest in the Bank of Steve.

Glenn Howerton plays Ethan Corbin II, a friend of the Kells and a bachelor who lives next door. He’s a star member of a yacht club. However, he’s quickly setting fire to his trust fund, making you wonder if he knows how to play the game.

Spearheaded by Emmy-nominated writer and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler (Maid) and executive produced by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap, Sirens is an adaptation of Metzler’s play Elemeno Pea. Told throughout a single weekend, Sirens has the following logline: “Devon (Fahy) thinks her sister Simone (Alcock) has a really creepy relationship with her new boss, the enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell (Moore). Michaela’s cult-ish life of luxury is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time for an intervention. When Devon tracks her sister down to say WTF, she has no idea what a formidable opponent Michaela will be.”

Fahy’s Devon DeWitt is in a downward spiral and feels trapped in her hometown. She’s funny, charming, and protective, especially when her sister Simone is concerned. Simone (Alcock) is witty, intelligent, and competitive. She loves working for her new boss, Michaela Kell (Moore) and wants nothing more than to get a taste of her employer’s high life. As Michaela and Simone grow closer, Devon tries to drive a wedge between them before Simone loses herself in a life of luxury, shady deals, and soul-sucking philanthropy.

Are you excited about Kevin Bacon and Glenn Howerton joining the Sirens cast? How long will it take Howerton’s Ethan to hit Bacon’s Peter up for a loan? Place your bets!

Mel Gibson

About three years ago, we heard that Lethal Weapon franchise star (and potential Lethal Weapon 5 director) Mel Gibson had signed on to star in a fantasy adventure / family horror film that was going by the title Boys of Summer. That project has since been given a new title, Monster Summer, and Coming Soon reports that it will be reaching theatres just in time for Halloween! The specific release date is October 4th.

Directed by David Henrie (This Is the Year) from a script written by Cornelius Uliano and Bryan Schulz (The Peanuts Movie), Monster Summer follows a local boy, who after his best friend is mysteriously taken, begins to suspect that a supernatural entity may be hunting the children of Martha’s Vineyard. After seeking the help of an aging detective (Gibson), they soon discover they’re on the path of a witch who has recently retired to their island. Here’s an alternative synopsis: When a mysterious force begins to disrupt their big summer fun, Noah and his friends team up with a retired police detective to embark on a monstrous adventure to save their island.

This one brings to mind The Monster Squad for me – and while chances are low that I’ll like it anywhere near as much as I like The Monster Squad, I’m willing to give it a chance.

Gibson is joined in the cast by Kevin James (King of Queens), Mason Thames (The Black Phone), Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas), Nora Zehetner (The Right Stuff), Noah Cottrell (The Spiderwick Chronicles), Abby James Witherspoon (The Secret Headquarters), Lilah Pate (Outer Banks), Julian Lerner (The Wonder Years), and Patrick Renna (The Sandlot).

Monster Summer is the first feature film from Pastime Pictures, a studio that was founded by Dan McDonough and John Blanford after they met on a set where they were working as Production Assistants (which is why “PA’s Time” is contained in their company name). McDonough and Blanford produced the film with Mark Fasano and James Henrie.

Return of the Living Dead III

Several years ago, director Brian Yuzna’s Return of the Living Dead III (watch it HERE) got a great special edition Blu-ray release as part of the Vestron Video Collector’s Series… but now a discovery has been made that has fans of the film hoping for a new release as soon as possible: a VHS tape of the “first cut” of Return of the Living Dead III, featuring almost 8 minutes of additional, never before seen footage, has been unearthed! That tape is now in the hands of filmmaker Dustin Ferguson, who took to social media to share a picture of the tape, and associate Chris MacGibbon.

Ferguson and MacGibbon have spent the last few years working together on a highly anticipated documentary on the Night of the Demons franchise, The Party’s Just Begun: The Legacy of Night of The Demons, and MacGibbon was credited for remixing the audio on the Night of the Demons 4K and Blu-ray released by Scream Factory last year.

Ferguson didn’t share any details on what’s being planned for the first cut of Return of the Living Dead III (which has a running time of 1:44:23), but there seems to be some kind of release in the works and more information will be provided soon.

Directed by Yuzna from a screenplay by John Penney, Return of the Living Dead III has the following synopsis: Julie and Curt are sweethearts. But puppy love turns into tragedy when a motorcycle accident kills Julie and separates the young lovers permanently. Still devoted and very heartbroken, Curt tries desperately to keep Julie alive by exposing her to Trioxin, a potent drug which brings the dead back to life. There’s only one problem: when she’s revived, she has an intense urge to feed on human flesh. Now Curt’s got to find a way to manage the undead while not becoming dinner himself.

The film stars Melinda Clarke, J. Trevor Edmond, Kent McCord, Basil Wallace, Sarah Douglas, James T. Callahan, Mike Moroff, Sal Lopez, Fabio Urena, Pia Reyes, and Dana Lee.

What would you like to see happen with the first cut of Return of the Living Dead III? Let us know by leaving a comment below – and as soon as there’s an update on the situation, we’ll share it here on JoBlo!
