Month: July 2024

Longlegs, the latest horror project from The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel director Osgood Perkins, is set to reach theatres on July 12th – and with just eleven days to go until that date is upon us, the final trailer for the film has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Nicolas Cage (Dream Scenario) stars in Longlegs alongside Maika Monroe (It Follows), Alicia Witt (Urban Legend) and Blair Underwood (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D). The story Perkins crafted for the film is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers.” Monroe takes on the role of FBI Agent Lee Harker, a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer. As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.

Cage has said (while speaking to John Carpenter) the film is about “a character who’s hearing voices. It’s kind of like a possessed Geppetto, who’s making these dolls”. Production took place in Vancouver, Canada. Cage is producing Longlegs through his company Saturn Films, which recently had success with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Pig. Also producing are Dan Kagan, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Dave Caplan, and Chris Ferguson. Jason Cloth and Fred Berger of Automatik serve as executive producers with John Friedberg of Black Bear.

In addition to directing the films mentioned at the top of this article, Perkins directed an episode of the recent revival of The Twilight Zone. He has also worked on the screenplays for the thriller Removal, the crime thriller Cold Comes the Night, and the horror film The Girl in the Photographs. His next film is the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, which is coming to theatres on February 21st.

Many a movie fan took a break from the family friendly Inside Out 2 looking for a good fright. With a strong first weekend, A Quiet Place: Day One has arrived. Considering it is the first time John Krasniski did not take the director’s chair, the film is in terrific hands thanks to Pig director, Michael Sarnoski. And yes, it’s an impressive and thrilling prequel. The story revolves around Samira (Lupita Nyong’o), as a woman with a cat who is trapped in New York City as the invasion begins. She shares an excellent partner with the amazing kitty, as well as Stranger Things hero, Joseph Quinn. The three are incredible. And yes, I really loved that cat.

Recently, I had the great pleasure of speaking with Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou, and Day One writer/director Michael Sarnoski. For Michael, he opened up about taking on a franchise three movies in. As well, he talked about the freedom to take this story in a new and inventive direction. Next up, it was a joy checking in with both Mr. Wolff and Hounsou, and they were absolutely fantastic. Alex chatted about his history with the filmmaker and frankly, while he takes on a supporting character, he was terrific. For Hounsou, he talked about continuing with the franchise as it opens the series up to new ways to bring back those terrifying creatures.

A Quiet Place: Day One is currently playing at a theatre near you. If you are a fan of what Krasinski started, you’ll want to experience this one as well.

Air Supply, biopic

Put away the sex and drugs because a biopic focusing on the Australian rock duo Air Supply is taking up space in the atmosphere. The project comes from Pirates of the Caribbean and Collateral screenwriter Stuart Beattie. Altit Media Group’s Dean Altit is producing, and Barr Seigel, Jesse Weiner, Johhny Hsu, and Julia Xu are executive producing. Cameras look to roll later this year in Australia and the UK, while the team plans for a summer 2025 release to coincide with the band’s 50th anniversary.

If you’ve never heard of Air Supply before, the soft rock duo – Graham Russell (vocals/guitar) and Russell Hitchcock (vocals) – make the type of music to tongue-punch your partner to. With make-out anthems like “All Out of Love,” “Every Woman in the World,” “The One That You Love,” and “Even the Nights Are Better,” Air Supply was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2013. The band made the scene in 1976 with their self-titled debut album, with many to follow until their latest release, 2010’s Mumbo Jumbo. The band sold over 100 million albums and played over 5,000 live shows, with more band members rotating through the group faster than Spinal Tap welcomes new drummers.

All Out of Love: The Air Supply Story will follow the band’s founding members, Russell and Hitchcock, as they navigate the challenges of pursuing their musical dreams in a competitive industry.

“Growing up in Australia, I’ve been a true blue Air Supply fan for most of my life, so I’m thrilled to tell Graham and Russell’s incredible story and show why their music has connected with people all over the world for the last 50 years,” said Beattie.

“Stuart is a master storyteller, as a huge fan of Air Supply himself, he is sure to captivate the hearts and minds of viewers around the world. We are all extremely happy to have him on our All Out of Love journey,” Altit adds.”

Are you an Air Supply fan? Have you ever played tonsil hockey while serenaded to the sweet sounds of the band’s smooth grooves? Did you have to hop onto YouTube to remind yourself who Air Supply is? While I would prefer an Air biopic, there’s no denying that Air Supply holds a special place in the hearts of many. Beattie appears particularly passionate about this project, and I’m excited that he gets to live out his dream with this project. Good for you, sir. Enjoy yourself.
