Nine years ago, we heard that producer Pierre Spengler was teaming with French comic book publisher Humanoids to bring adaptations of some of their properties to the screen. Spengler got the filmmaking trio of Anouk Whissell, Yoann-Karl Whissell, and Francois Simard, a.k.a. RKSS, to sign on to make the adaptation of Jerry Frissen and Guy Davis’s futuristic zombie spoof The Zombies That Ate the World… and back in 2022, the project finally made it into production under the title We Are Zombies! The movie is now set to be released through the Screambox streaming service on August 13th – and with that date just a couple weeks away, a trailer has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.
The story of We Are Zombies is set in a city breeding non-cannibal zombies who are considered “living-impaired.” The offbeat comedic plot follows three slackers looking to earn some easy money who must fight an evil mega-corporation to save their kidnapped grandmother.
The film stars Alexander Nachi (Clash), Megan Peta Hill (Riverdale), and Derek Johns (Moonfall).
We Are Zombies is a collaboration between Christal Film Productions, Full House, a label of Borsalino Productions and Maneki Films, and Humanoids’ European sister company Sparkling, in association with Kinology. Spengler is producing the film for Sparkling. The project is backed by SODEC, Telefilm Canada, Sofitvcine, La Banque Postale Image, Cofimage, refundable tax credit for Québec film and television production, Eurimages, Cofinova, and the Canadian Film and Video Production Tax Credit.
The Zombies That Ate the World has been compared to Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, and the works of Judd Apatow. The comic was also praised by the likes of George A. Romero, Joe Dante, and Tobe Hooper. It has the following description: Los Angeles, 2064. In a world where humans have to live along the living dead, a new job opportunity arises: zombie catcher. Karl Neard, his sister Maggie, and his Belgian friend Freddy Merckx, all embrace this “career” in the hope of making easy money. Unfortunately, the job is not that simple: not only are the “dead” still walking, but they also have a terrible stench and an awful sense of humor. As a matter of fact, zombies just don’t care about anything, as their lives are behind them and they now have an eternity to enjoy what is left of the world. Karl and his team will quickly find this fact out as they end up surrounded by all sorts of ghoulish freaks.
RKSS previously directed the films Turbo Kid and Summer of 84.

The first part of the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai debuted just a few weeks ago, putting the grand finale in motion. However, even when the series does come to a close, Cobra Kai creators Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz have been entertaining the idea of more spinoffs, including a prequel series centered on Mr. Miyagi.
“I would say that we definitely want to do [a Mr. Miyagi series] and have been talking about that,” Schlossberg told THR. “But the focus has been on Cobra Kai. As we’re finishing that up, we’ll see exactly what path we take in terms of spinoffs, but it is definitely something that we’ve been wanting to do. It’s just that we want to wait until we get finished with Cobra Kai first before we get into that.” While it doesn’t sound like a Miyagi prequel is officially in the cards at the moment, it does appear to be something the creative team is considering.
Other Cobra Kai spinoffs have been considered, but the Miyagi prequel seems to be the obvious choice, especially considering that the current season of Cobra Kai has been teasing a dark backstory for the character. “We think about spinoffs with Cobra Kai all the time. Cobra Kai itself is, in a way, a spinoff of The Karate Kid. We took the bully from The Karate Kid, we took that branch and created our own tree out of it, and we feel like we could do that with any of the characters on the show,” Schlossberg said. “We definitely thought about that as we’re tying things up with all the characters. We think about the fun of following them in their futures and in, addition, we think about the past. It is one of the reasons why we did the Miyagi box story this season.“
Schlossberg continued: “It opens up allthese questions about Mr. Miyagi and what his life was like, and that’s been something we’ve been wanting to do for a while. We’ve talked to Robert Mark Kamen, the writer of the original Karate Kid who based this whole movie off his sensei who studied Okinawan karate; we’ve been talking about all this Miyagi backstory with him, which helped us with season six stuff. Now that we’re done, we can actually start getting into this stuff. We’ve just been focused on Cobra Kai and finishing it off. And right now, we’re in the process of editing the last couple episodes. Once that’s done, we’ll hopefully have some exciting things…“
Part 2 of Cobra Kai‘s final season will follow on November 15th, with Part 3 concluding the series next year. Unfortunately, our own Alex Maidy struggled to get excited about the first five episodes but admitted that it’s hard to judge the season without having seen two-thirds of it. “This is the first season where the opening chapters completely underwhelmed me,” Maidy wrote. “With too many red herrings and retreads of previous conflicts, Cobra Kai VI opens with a disappointing start to what should have been a slam-dunk wrap for this popular franchise. Maybe because a feature film is on the way, there is still hope for this story, but it feels more than ever before like Cobra Kai has run out of steam.” You can check out the rest of Maidy’s review right here.

Megan Fox and director S.K. Dale, who previously worked together on the thriller Till Death (about a woman who has to deal with a pair of killers while handcuffed to the corpse of her husband), have teamped up again on the sci-fi thriller Subservience, which was filmed at the Bulgarian Nu Boyana Studio last year. Subservience is now ready to make its way out into the world, with XYZ Films planning to give it a digital and VOD release on September 13th. With that release date swiftly approaching, a trailer for Subservience has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Will Honley (Escape Room: Tournament of Champions) and April Maguire (Lost Girls) wrote the screenplay for Subservience, crafting a story about a struggling father who purchases a domestic SIM to help care for his house and family until she gains awareness and turns deadly. Here’s the full synopsis: Megan Fox stars as Alice, a lifelike artificially intelligent android, who has the ability to take care of any family and home. Looking for help with the housework, a struggling father purchases Alice after his wife becomes sick. Alice suddenly becomes self-aware and wants everything her new family has to offer, starting with the affection of her owner – and she’ll kill to get it.
Fox is playing the SIM, while the struggling father is played by Michele Morrone (365 Days). Also in the cast are Madeline Zima (Californication), Matilda Firth (Hullraisers), Andrew Whipp (Outlander), and newcomer Jude Greenstein.
Subservience is coming to us from Millennium Media. The company’s Jeffrey Greenstein, Jonathan Yunger, Tanner Mobley, Les Weldon, Rob Van Norden, Yariv Lerner, and Jon Berg are producing the film, while Millennium’s Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, and Boaz Davidson serve as executive producers.
When we first heard about Subservience, Greenstein gave the following statement: “Megan and Michele are perfect for this timely and provocative thriller. As Megan’s third film with us, this high concept and topical subject makes for a cautionary tale of AI and the frighteningly real dangers that could rise. With the addition of the talented Michele to add an extra layer of spice as our leading man, we are excited to see leading lady Megan and S.K. team up again with Megan lending her acting talents to an incredibly layered character.“
Dale added: “This film will show a side of Megan that we have never seen before. The cast that we are assembling will elevate this emotionally-charged story and I cannot wait to show you all what we have in store.“

After what feels like lightyears of waiting, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the latest live-action series set in a galaxy far, far away, will premiere on Disney+ on December 3, 2024! In addition to revealing the show’s anticipated release date, People debuted a gallery of first-look photos from the series promising a coming-of-age “family adventure” among the cosmos.
The official synopsis for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew reads: “When four kids make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, they get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home, meeting unlikely allies and enemies will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.”
Star Wars fans are eager for Jude Law to join the universe, with the Closer and The Grand Budapest Hotel actor playing Jod Na Nawood, a human Jedi who helps the kids (Neel, Fern, Wim, and KB) navigate a complicated world during destructive times. Joining Law for the adventure are Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Wim), Kyriana Kratter (KB), Robert Timothy Smith (Neel), and Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Fern).
When asked to describe the upcoming series, Law told People that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is “joyful.” He says audiences will enjoy watching the kids get into mischief while approaching places in the Star Wars Universe they should not be. “It is a fun place to be, the universe of Star Wars,” Law said, smiling. “And there are great references to old films and recent episodes and series. There’s a lot of originality and I hope that will bring the feeling of fun to those who watch it.”
Law says audiences will watch the kids come into their own, learning lessons that shape who they are in a harsh world. Throughout the saga, the story is “very much a piece about working together and overcoming fears and overcoming…perhaps [one’s] opinion of oneself or one’s own weaknesses in order to succeed.”
“I had a wonderful time making this with everyone involved,” Law says about time spent with the child actors. “Those four in particular who worked with me very closely were just great fun and incredibly professional, and I’m immensely proud to be a part of their crew.”
While Star Wars: Skeleton Crew brings plenty of new elements to the universe, Law says fans of the old school should keep their eyes peeled for Easter eggs related to the original films and lore. “If you look carefully, [we] got some Star Wars tech that dates right back, I believe, to the original film,” he reveals. “They do [easter eggs] so well. That’s one of the joys I think of this universe for those who know there are these little details always hidden away or Easter eggs that people can find and link up.”
Series creator Jon Watts is also excited about those references. “I can’t wait,” Watts gushes. “I mean, even in the first episode, there’s a couple really, really great references that certain fans will immediately recognize.” Thankfully, Watts says you don’t need to be an expert in Star Wars lore to enjoy Skeleton Crew, saying they designed the show to be new-viewer-friendly in many ways.
