Elizabeth Banks, Cocaine Bear 2

While San Diego Comic-Con continues to bring one surprise after another, a bear hopes to steal some of the spotlight with news about sticking its snoot into more nose candy for Cocaine Bear 2. According to industry scooper Daniel RPK, a sequel to last year’s dark comedy thriller Cocaine Bear is in the works, with Elizabeth Banks producing and possibly getting back behind the camera as the project’s director.

Speaking with Rolling Stone last year about a possible sequel, Banks told the outlet, “I had an absolutely great time working on the (first movie). I loved how subversive, crazy, silly, and funny it was. I loved surprising people with the cast. I don’t think anybody was expecting Margo Martindale, who’s 70 years old, to shoot that kid. We had a lot fun, and if I got the opportunity to surprise the audience and delight myself again, I would take it. … I’ve been very fortunate to work across a lot of genres and things that appeal to me. Cocaine Bear also came to me during the pandemic. We were all locked away, and I loved the sense of fun inside of it. It was what I wanted to see. And it had this message about mankind’s culpability in nature’s demise. It spoke to me on a lot of levels.”

Cocaine Bear is based on true events that took place in Kentucky in 1985. The story goes a little something like this: In 1985, convicted drug smuggler Andrew Thornton was on a smuggling run from Columbia and had dumped several packages full of cocaine before bailing out of a plane himself. Unfortunately, he hit his head on the tail of the aircraft and wound up in a freefall to the ground, where he was found dead in someone’s driveway. Several months later, a 175-pound black bear was found dead after devouring approximately $15 million worth of cocaine that had been dropped by Thornton. “Its stomach was literally packed to the brim with cocaine,” the medical examiner who’d performed the bear’s necropsy said. “There isn’t a mammal on the planet that could survive that. Cerebral hemorrhaging, respiratory failure, hyperthermia, renal failure, heart failure, stroke. You name it, that bear had it.”

Scripted by Jimmy Warden, the cinematic take on the concept finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of CocaineCocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow… and blood.

The film stars Keri Russell (Antlers), Margo Martindale (The Americans), Ray Liotta (Goodfellas), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Kahyun Kim (American Gods), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project), and newcomer Scott Seiss.

While we wait for the official word about Cocaine Bear 2, revisiting the original sounds like a fine idea. Cocaine Bear took audiences by storm upon release, with Banks delivering a whip-smart comedy, outrageous violence, and an ending that could bring the story in multiple directions. Friday the 13th Nintendo

The Friday the 13th video game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989 isn’t exactly popular, but it did show the world an unforgettable version of slasher Jason Voorhees that had a purple outfit and a blue mask. The Friday the 13th video game that was released in 2017 even paid tribute to the NES version by including a purple and blue Jason… and now Bull Airs has unveiled a whole line of items that were inspired by the Nintendo Jason, including shoes, shirts, and more. Images of these items can be seen at the bottom of this article, and they’re all available for pre-order at THIS LINK. If you want to secure any of these, you should head over to the Bull Airs site quickly, because some of them are already selling out.

The main item are the custom sneakers, which were up for offer with or without hockey mask lace guards. Of course, the version with the lace guards is the item that sold out almost immediately. Luckily, lace guards are available for purchase on their own, so if you really want the lace guards for the shoes, all is not lost. The shoes go for the price of $450, and a pair of lace guards costs $50. Made out of Nike Air Jordan 1s, the shoes come in an acrylic collectors themed box and are available in sizes 4-18. When ordering, you can choose them with or without the blood splatter design. They’ll be shipping sometime in the first quarter of 2025.

Beyond the shoes, there are a button-up shirt, a crew neck, a polo shirt, and a T-shirt, as well as an embroidered hat. Plus, there’s a vinyl sticker and a Sneakerheadz foam ball.

Will you be buying any of the items from Bull Airs’ Friday the 13th Nintendo game-inspired line? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

The Friday the 13th Nintendo game was notoriously difficult, and made players (who took control of counselor characters) face off not only with a purple and blue Jason, but also with zombies, crows, wolves, and the flying severed head of Jason’s mother.

The Prime Video series event Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power has unleashed its trailer for season 2 for all to see. When last we saw this era of Middle-Earth, we were left with the forging of the three elven rings that are capable of helping the woodland race survive until the end of the Third Age. This upcoming season is sure to unveil to audiences what happens when the dwarves get some of their own. In addition, Amazon has gone all-out in their activation of Rings of Power at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Our EIC, Chris Bumbray, is on the scene with some items from the show displayed.

In Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, “Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.”

Two big details were revealed about this season at Comic-Con. One notable thing that fans will have to look forward to is that this season will be all about Sauron, and another big reveal is that an epic three-episode battle will take place. You can check out some of the pics from JoBlo’s visit to the activation below.

Entertainment Weekly has also unveiled some teaser photos from this season in their exclusive first look at the dwarves. Owain Arthur, who returns as Prince Durin IV of the kingdom of Khazad-dûm, has stated, “Due to some very powerful rings, there’s a shift in dynamics among the dwarves. The rings certainly have an effect on the king, and therefore the entire kingdom, really. We see the positives of the rings, but Durin certainly also feels the negative aspects of them.”

Per EW, “Season 2 will introduce us to one of the most famous [dwarves]: Narvi (Kevin Eldon). Cited in J.R.R. Tolkien’s appendices to The Lord of the Rings as the dwarf who built the Doors of Durin (“Speak ‘friend’ and enter”), Narvi is set to play a significant role in the dwarven politics.” Eldon had spoken about his character, “He’s weaving in and out of the action throughout the season. He’s only mentioned in Tolkien’s appendices, and he’s described as a great craftsman. [Showrunners] J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay had little to go on, but I think we have successfully turned this footnote into a flesh-and-blood character. As well as being this fantastic architect, we see in season 2 that he’s an adviser as well. He’s a right-hand man of King Durin.”

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power season 2 will be available on Prime Video starting August 29.

The fourth season of the satirical superhero series The Boys just wrapped up on Prime Video last week. Soon showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke will be gearing up for production of the fifth and final season of the show (the scripts are currently being written) – but first, it’s time to party at San Diego Comic-Con. A The Boys panel, described as a post-season finale celebration, was held at Comic-Con today, with Kripke joined on stage by several members of the cast. Most of the hour was dedicated to talk about The Boys season 4, with a blooper video (embedded above) unveiled along the way – but in the final moments, it was revealed that not only will Jensen Ackles be reprising the role of Soldier Boy as a series regular in season 5, but he and Aya Cash, who plays Stormfront on the show, are set to star in a prequel series called Vought Rising!

Based on the New York Times bestselling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes who are as popular as celebrities abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super-powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven. Here’s the official synopsis for the latest season: In Season Four, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.

Vought Rising is described as being a lurid pulp saga set in New York City in the 1950s.

The main show is executive produced by Kripke, along with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Ori Marmur, Dan Trachtenberg, Ken F. Levin, Jason Netter, Craig Rosenberg, Phil Sgriccia, Rebecca Sonnenshine, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Meredith Glynn, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, and Michaela Starr. Paul Grellong will be showrunner and executive producer on Vought Rising.

According to Kripke and Grellong, “Vought Rising is a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought. We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.

Deadline notes, “Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront have similar origin stories. Soldier Boy is the first American non-aging Supe, created by Frederick Vought during World War II. Stormfront was Frederick Vought’s first successful test subject for Compound V and she married him before they moved to the U.S.
