Cillian Murphy, Peaky Blinders movie

The BBC crime drama series Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons and a total of 36 episodes, beginning in 2013 and wrapping up in 2022. In that time, the show told a story that started in 1919 and wrapped up in the mid-1930s. Earlier this year, it was announced that the BBC is teaming up with the Netflix streaming service to bring us a Peaky Blinders movie that will pick up a few years after the end of the series and see Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) reprising the iconic role of Tommy Shelby, leader of the eponymous Birmingham gangster family. Now Deadline reports that Murphy is being joined in the cast by Rebecca Ferguson of the Dune and Mission: Impossible franchises… but details on the character Ferguson will be playing are being kept under wraps.

Tom Harper (Heart of Stone) will direct the Peaky Blinders movie for Netflix, marking his return to the franchise. He previously directed the last three episodes of the first season. Series creator Steven Knight has written the screenplay, and production is expected to kick off in in Digbeth, England later this year. Knight is co-producing alongside Murphy, Caryn Mandabach, and Guy Heeley. Executive producers include Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason.

We don’t have plot details at this time, but Knight has confirmed that the story is set during World War II. He has also said, “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.” The movie is said to be a “fitting conclusion” to the TV series, but there “will be other TV shows… that will continue to tell the story of this part of society and this family.

Murphy previously provided the following statement: “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.

Harper said, “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.

Jeff Goldblum’s Zeus is sick to death of being underappreciated in the face of a fast-moving, ever-changing world filled with ungrateful humans obsessed with their miserable lives. Nowadays, people pray less, and when’s the last time anyone thanked the Father of the Gods for all they have? As Zeus sees it, humans only call to a higher power when they feel threatened. If that’s the case, why bother to bestow blessings upon them when you could have them praying in fear instead? Humans need an awe-inspiring old-fashioned disaster to remind them who’s in charge. Who better to give it to them than Zeus? This line of thinking is unreasonable. It’s madness. It’s KAOS. Let Goldblum show you how to make humans worship again in Netflix‘s KAOS teaser trailer.

KAOS is a dark comedy series from creator Charlie Covell and writer Georgia Christou. Georgi Banks-Davis directs five episodes of KOAS, while Runyararo Mapfumo shoots the remaining three. Today’s KAOS teaser trailer finds Jeff Goldblum playing Zeus, Cliff Curtis playing Poseidon, Janet McTeer playing Hera, and Kurt Egyiawan playing Adrian. KAOS strikes like a bolt of lightning on Netflix on August 29.

KAOS, Jeff Goldblum, Netflix, teaser trailer

Here’s the official synopsis for KOAS courtest of Netflix:

Zeus has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming – and starts to see signs of it everywhere.

Zeus’ once reliable brother, Hades, God of the Underworld, is secretly losing his grip on his dark dominion. There is a backlog of dead waiting to be processed and they are growing restless. Hera (Janet McTeer), Queen of the Gods, exercises dominion on Earth — and over Zeus — in her own unique way. But her power and freedom become threatened by Zeus’ growing paranoia, and she is forced to act, while Zeus’ rebellious son, Dionysus, (Nabhaan Rizwan), is out of control and on course for a cosmic collision with his father.

On Earth people are aching for change, however Poseidon (Cliff Curtis), God of Sea, Storms and Earthquakes (and Horses) is more concerned with the size of his super-yacht and where the next party is at. The wellbeing of mere mortals is of little interest to him. Unfortunately for the Gods some of those mortals are beginning to realise this…

These mortals – Riddy (Aurora Perrineau), Orpheus (Killian Scott), Caneus (Misia Butler) and Ari (Leila Farzad) – come from different walks of life and are all cosmically connected in the battle against Zeus. Each one has a very different role to play, any one of them may be destined to bring down the Gods.

Netflix’s KAOS teaser trailer finds the gods in a contemporary setting instead of an imagined metropolis from thousands of years ago. Still, their vanity remains, and hell hath no fury like a god made to feel unimportant in the grand scheme of existence. With power on their side, the gods delight in demonstrating their wrath for non-believers, and not everyone will make it out of the exhibition alive.

Earlier this year, Full Moon founder Charles Band announced that his company was launching a new production label called Pulp Noir, which will focus on “edgier, weirder, darker horror and dark fantasy films.” They also set up a Patreon account where fans can subscribe and show their support for the company while getting a behind-the-scenes look at the making of these films. The first movie in the Pulp Noir line, a female serial killer story called Quadrant, wrapped production a while back – and now Full Moon has announced that the movie will be getting Blu-ray, DVD, limited edition VHS, and streaming release (on Amazon Prime, Full Moon Features, and Tubi, among others) on August 23rd!

Directed by BandQuadrant was written by C. Courtney Joyner and is described as being an unholy blend of steampunk terror and sci-fi slasher, with a female serial killer using the titular VR device to stalk her prey and channel the legacy of Jack the Ripper, and another heroic woman entering the ether-verse to bring her down!

Promotional art features a more in-depth synopsis: Developed by scientists Harry and Meg, the Quadrant helmet allows your mind to transport you into a world where all your phobias and nightmares are real, while also granting you the strength to defeat them, liberating you from their control forever. But the Quadrant experiment is about to go terribly wrong. When Erin, a young girl who’s obsessed with Jack the Ripper, uses the device to actually become the Ripper, she unleashes a reign of terror, first in her mind in an AI version of old London created by the Quadrant, and then in reality, where she now stalks the contemporary city streets, seeking out victims for her blade. The only way to stop this savage new Ripper is for an even more vicious killer to enter the artificial Quadrant-verse and bring her down. What ensues is a brutal, bloody battle, murderer against murderer, both in this world and the surreal, dangerous, synthetic world of Quadrant!

Quadrant stars Shannon Helene Barnes, Emma Reinagel, and Christian Carrigan.

In a press release, Full Moon notes that “Quadrant is definitely a quote on our glorious (and GORE-ious) ’80s Empire Pictures incarnation, and so it makes PERFECT sense to also make a VHS version available…for all you hardcore media collectors out there (and we KNOW you’re out there!).

The film rights to the Marvel Comics characters Deadpool and Wolverine used to be set up at 20th Century Fox – but now that Marvel owner Disney has also purchased 20th Century Fox (now known as 20th Century Studios), those characters are set to make their triumphant Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in this weekend’s release of Deadpool & Wolverine (you can read our review of the film HERE). To mark the occasion JoBlo’s own Eric Walkuski was able to sit down for interviews with producer Kevin Feige, who is the President of Marvel Studios, and executive producer Wendy Jacobson – and you can watch those interviews in the video embedded above!

Ryan Reynolds is back in the role of Deadpool / Wade in Deadpool & Wolverine, which is being directed by Reynolds’ Free Guy and The Adam Project collaborator Shawn Levy from a screenplay by franchise writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Reynolds is joined in the cast by Hugh Jackman, who worked with Levy on Real Steel and came out of Wolverine retirement to play the character again six years after Logan. Brianna Hildebrand is back as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, with Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, and Karan Soni as Dopinder. Jennifer Garner is expected to appear as Elektra Natchios, a character she played twenty years ago in Daredevil (and its spin-off Elektra). Emma Corrin plays the villainous Cassandra Nova. Other cast members have been revealed, but those are spoilers. Plus there’s Dogpool!

The film has the following official synopsis: Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date – Deadpool & Wolverine. A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to – Fuck. Synopses are so fucking stupid.

There’s also this one: Wolverine is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the loudmouth, Deadpool. They team up to defeat a common enemy.

Will you be catching Deadpool & Wolverine on the big screen this weekend? Check out our interviews with the producers, then let us know by leaving a comment below.
