Back in 1983, Charles Bronson starred in an awesome serial killer thriller called 10 to Midnight. Now Bronson look-alike Robert Bronzi has the lead in a thriller called 12 to Midnight – but the serial killer he needs to take down happens to be a werewolf! 12 to Midnight is set to receive a limited theatrical release on August 1st, and will also be available to watch on DirecTV and other streaming platforms. With the release date just one week away, a trailer for the film has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.

Mark Savage (Purgatory Road) directed the film from a screenplay he crafted with Joe Knetter, producer Jeff Miller (who came up with the story), and cast member Tom Parnell. It concerns a detective, despondent after the murder of his wife and forced to resign, who is brought back to the force when a new string of murders seem connected to his wife’s and the killer appears to be taunting him.  Only the killer may be superhuman, likely a breed of werewolf.

Bronzi is joined in the cast by Daniel Roebuck, Sadie Katz, and UFC champion Tito Ortiz, as well as Evan Strand, Patrick Voss Davis, Juliet Biscotti, A.C. Bernardi, Sarah Cugini, Searra Sawka, Destiny Leilani Brown, Valerie Bittner, the aforementioned Tom Parnell, and Helene Udy from the original My Bloody Valentine.

This is a co-production between Millman Productions, Cannon Fire Productions, Delirium, Ron Lee Productions, and Salem House Films, made with assistance from the Anthracite Cultural Board. Although some filming took place in California, the bulk of the movie was filmed “in the scenic anthracite coal region of Northeast Pennsylvania, including a day in the legendary near-ghost town of Centralia, the inspiration for Silent Hill.” Miller produced 12 to Midnight with Robert Savakinus. Parnell serves as an executive producer alongside Ronnie D. Lee and Robert Michael Ryan. Savage is co-executive producer, with Beth Clausnitzer as the associate producer. Michael Su is the cinematographer, and Oliver Poser supervised the special makeup and creature FX.

A press release lets us know that Millman Productions is handling U.S./Canadian theatrical bookings, with ITN Distribution handling non-theatrical distribution in the U.S. and Canada and all rights in South America.

Cobra Kai, Netflix, Top 10

Cobra Kai is going out with a bang as the first half of The Karate Kid sequel’s final season climbs the Netflix TV charts to claim the top spot. The first five episodes of the anticipated sixth season debuted on the streamer on July 18, immediately claiming the crown with tons of viewers returning for more martial arts drama. The opening gambit for Cobra Kai Season 6 hit hard and fast with 14.8 million views in its first four days on the Netflix Top 10 for July 15-21, and another five episodes will launch on November 15. A final presentation of the series will be unleashed sometime in 2025, with whispers of other Cobra Kai projects in development.

Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 buried an ax in the second spot with 6.4 million views, while the Simone Biles Rising documentary flawlessly landed in the third position with 4.7 million views. With the Paris Olympics beginning next week, people will surely add to the doc’s numbers as they pre-game for the big event. Homicide: Los Angeles arrives on the chart in fourth place with 4.3 million views, while Supacell: Season 1 is still going strong in fifth with 4.2 million views.

Find Me Falling, starring Harry Connick Jr., nabbed the top spot with 14.4M views on the film side of the spectrum. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F continues to do the Neutron Dance in fourth place with 8.3 million views, while A Family Affair, starring Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron, landed in fifth with 5.5 million views. Hillbilly Elegy sits in the eighth slot with 4.8 million after news that writer JD Vance is former President Trump’s pick for VP in the 2024 election cycle.

In Cobra Kai Season 6, Daniel and Johnny continue to sort out their differences as they struggle to balance their martial arts styles. As students look on in disbelief, old rivalries resurface as a war for understanding and raging hormones spiral out of control. With John Kreese out of prison and training a lethal crop of fighters, the Valley falls under attack as the results of the Sekai Taikai – the world karate championships – decide far more than who takes home the trophy.

Ralph Macchio and William Zabka star as their Karate Kid characters Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, respectively, and they’re joined in the cast by Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, Peyton List, Vanessa Rubio, and Griffin Santopietro. Martin Kove reprises the role of John Kreese from the film, with Thomas Ian Griffith as The Karate Kid Part III villain Terry Silver and Yuji Okumoto as Chozen Toguchi from The Karate Kid Part II. As of seasons 5 and 6, Alicia Hannah-Kim plays the villainous sensei Kim Da-Eun, with C.S. Lee (Dexter) playing her grandfather, Master Kim Sun-Young, who taught the type of karate used by the students at the Cobra Kai dojo, in Season 6.

Are you watching Cobra Kai Season 6? I’m on the fifth episode right now, and boy, oh, boy, the drama! Choosing who participates in the Sekai Taikai is a complex process, and the monsters of jealousy and past rivalries are reemerging from the shadows. Buckle up, friends. It’s going to get heated.

Twister

Take one look at 1996’s Twister and you can tell it couldn’t have been an easy shoot. But nevermind the wind generated by Boeings or the debris being hurled violently at the cast or the stars being blinded by on-set lamps – everybody had Jan de Bont to deal with.

As one story from the set of Twister goes, Jan de Bont pushed a camera crew assistant, who subsequently fell into a ditch. After de Bont refused to apologize or show any remorse, cinematographer Don Burgess took his crew and went home, forcing a domino effect that led to multiple other teams walking off. Enter producer Steven Spielberg, who actually hand-picked de Bont because of 1994’s Speed. But Spielberg didn’t bother going to the set; instead, he made his mark right there at the airport.

After Jan de Bont was made to turn up at the airport, Spielberg allegedly tore him a hole even a tornado couldn’t have left behind. According to Twister stunt coordinator Mic Rodgers, “The ramp came down on the Learjet and Spielberg walked down it and he never touched the ground. He just stood there yelling at Jan. He never even got off the plane. He was just f*cking yelling, pointing his finger at him, screaming at him. I don’t know what he said to him, but he barked at him for, like, 15 minutes and got back in the plane. The plane left without him even stepping off.” (Spielberg was also apparently responsible for the decision to ditch a kiss at the end of this year’s Twisters.)

Production on Twister resumed shortly after, with Jack N. Green stepping in as cinematographer. Even though Green suffered his own injuries when a hydraulic house collapsed on him, that situation didn’t result in any damage to the partnership, as Green reteamed with de Bont on Speed 2: Cruise Control the next year.

With Twisters landing with both critics and audiences (touching down with an $80+ million opening), it’s definitely time for you to revisit the 1996 movie…just know that it had an F5 director.

What are your memories of watching Twister? How do you think this year’s follow-up turned out?

What We Do in the Shadows

The sixth season of the FX series What We Do in the Shadows will also be the show’s last, and today Variety has learned when FX plans to start airing the last episodes of the show: What We Do in the Shadows season 6 is scheduled to premiere on October 21st at 10 p.m. ET/PT… and fans will have the chance to watch the first three episodes that night! The remaining eight episodes of the 11-episode season will be released on a weekly basis, and will be available to stream the next day on Hulu. They’ll be available to stream internationally on Disney+ at a later date.

A spin-off from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s horror-comedy mockumentary film of the same title, What We Do in the Shadows centers on three vampires who live together: Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Nandor (Kayvan Novak) — the former two are husband and wife. Also living with them is a fourth vampire named Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), who’s an “energy vampire.” Instead of blood, he sucks the energy out of his victims by boring them to death with mundane anecdotes and bad jokes. The office is his feeding ground, but his powers also work on his vampire roomies.

Here’s the official synopsis for season 6: After a very brief stint as a full-blown vampire, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) is re-evaluating his life. Who is he if not a familiar who will do anything to please his Master in hopes of one day being turned into a vampire? Meanwhile, the vampires are reevaluating, too. When their former roommate reappears after a 50-year nap, they realize how little they’ve done in half a century — not one goal accomplished, not one dream pursued, not one part of the New World conquered (except for their street and part of Ashley Street).

What We Do in the Shadows is executive produced by Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, Paul Simms, Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, and Garrett Basch.
