Jurassic World

Back in January, Universal Pictures made a surprising announcement: not only did they have a new Jurassic World movie in development, but the screenplay – by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, returning to the franchise for the first time since The Lost World: Jurassic Park – had already been written, and the movie was on the fast track to production. Soon after, we learned that it’s aiming for a July 2, 2025 theatrical release. Assembled in a mad scramble, the movie is now filming with Godzilla director Gareth Edwards at the helm… and while a title has never been officially announced (we’ve heard that people involved with the production were referring to it as Jurassic World 4 and/or Jurassic City), the title might have just been given away by trademark filings. A few days ago, Amblin Entertainment filed to trademark the title Jurassic World: Rebirth for several products.

We’ll have to wait and see if Jurassic World: Rebirth does end up being the title of this movie, but Amblin definitely wanted to secure that title for something.

Variety has previously reported that Koepp’s script is a completely fresh take, launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the Island

This new Jurassic World movie won’t be featuring any returning lead characters from the previous Jurassic Park / Jurassic World movies, so describing it as a “Rebirth” could be accurate. The characters played by Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern are out, as are the ones played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. The new characters are set to be played by the likes of Mahershala Ali (Green Book), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Rupert Friend (Anatomy of a Scandal), and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer) – all of whom had their roles directly offered to them. Luna Blaise (Manifest), on the other hand, had to (according to Deadline) “beat out a number of actors” to land her role. David Iacono of The Summer I Turned Pretty is also in the cast… along with a bunch of hungry dinosaurs.

Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) was also offered a role, but he turned it down because he felt his presence in the movie wouldn’t help it. He did say that the script is great, though.

Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are producing the film for Kennedy/Marshall. Steven Spielberg is executive producing through Amblin Entertainment. Universal’s executive vp of production development Sara Scott and creative executive Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project for the studio.

What do you think of the title Jurassic World: Rebirth? Do you want to see that come up on the screen when you watch this movie, or do you think they should come up with a different title? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Nobody 2, Sharon Stone, Bob Odenkirk

Nobody 2, the sequel to 2021’s fun and fierce action film, starring Bob Odenkirk as a mild-mannered retired assassin who returns to his former life after a botched home invasion, is getting a significant update with confirmation that Sharon Stone is joining the cast for a villainous role. For Hutch Mansell’s (Bob Odenkirk) sake, I hope Stone isn’t within arms reach of an ice pick.

Sharon Stone’s inclusion is the latest bit of fantastic news for this highly-anticipated sequel after learning that Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us, The Big 4, Headshot) helms the film based on a screenplay written by Derek Kolstad, Aaron Rabin, Odenkirk and, Umair Aleem. Nobody surprised the box office by grossing $57.5 million after spending $16 million on production. Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, and Aleksey Serebryakov also star in Nobody, though it’s undetermined if Nielsen or Lloyd will return for the sequel. However, considering how Nobody ended, I’d like to see Nielsen’s Becca Mansell back in the mix.

Known for her knock-out roles in Basic Instinct, Casino, Sliver, and The Quick and the Dead, Sharon Stone is an exciting addition to Nobody 2. Still appearing in films like Beauty and What About Love, Stone plays compelling characters in TV series like Ratched and The Flight Attendant. She also stars in an episode of Netflix’s improv-like murder mystery show, Murderville, opposite Will Arnett. In Murderville, one-off guests join Detective Terry Seattle (Arnett) to investigate a murder while improvising comedy. Murderville is an acquired taste, but I enjoyed it.

In addition to acting on screens big and small, Stone is a noted humanitarian with several awards, including a United Nations Global Citizen Award, Nobel Peace Summit Award, a Harvard Humanitarian Award, a Human Rights Campaign Humanitarian Award, and an Einstein Spirit of Achievement Award.

Stone must have something devilishly clever in mind for her character in Nobody 2. I’m excited to see her chemistry with Bob Odenkirk and discover how she fits into the picture. Is her character out for revenge? Has Hutch pissed off the wrong people (again)? We’ll find out when more details about Nobody 2 surface.

MaXXXine

MaXXXine, the sequel to director Ti West‘s films Pearl and X, is now in theatres – but if you’re looking forward to watching the movie in the comfort of your own home, it looks like you might be able to do that very soon. The website When to Stream, which has a good reputation when it comes to scoops like this, reports that MaXXXine will be receiving a digital release on August 13th. This date has not yet been officially confirmed by distributor A24.

MaXXXine was written and directed by West. Mia Goth reprises the role of X survivor Maxine Minx, a burlesque performer and adult film actress with the goal of being a star. The film has the following synopsis: In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.

Goth is joined in the cast by singer Halsey, Kevin Bacon (Tremors), Elizabeth Debicki (Tenet), singer Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Bobby Cannavale (Netflix’s The Watcher), Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad. Our interviews with West and cast members can be viewed at THIS LINK.

MaXXXine is being produced by A24, Ti West, Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss. Mia Goth serves as executive producer.

Reactions to the movie seem to be split, as can be seen in the reviews we have here on JoBlo: Chris Bumbray gave the film a 6/10 and felt it paled in comparison to its predecessors, while Tyler Nichols (who was not a fan of X or Pearl) gave it a 9/10. It has done well at the box office, though, especially compared to how the first two movies did.

Are you glad to hear that MaXXXine might be getting a digital release in August? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Pressure, Brendan Fraser, Dwight D. Eisenhower

The Whale and Doom Patrol actor Brendan Fraser is ready to stand at attention while preparing to play Supreme Allied Commander Dwight Eisenhower in Pressure, an upcoming film from Working Title and Studiocanal. The intense war drama revolves around the world-altering events of D-Day and follows the lead-up to the Normandy landings.

Brendan Fraser joins Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers, Spectre, Pride) for Pressure, with Scott playing Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg. Stagg charted and reported weather patterns to Eisenhower. Weather plays a pivotal role in warfare, with conditions determining battlefield conditions, entry point availability, and more.

People in certain political circles celebrate General Eisenhower’s leadership during the conflict. His essential contribution to the war effort helped him secure the 34th U.S. President position, serving from 1953 to 61. Anthony Maras (The Palace, Hotel Mumbai, Spike Up) directs Pressure from a screenplay he co-wrote with Oliver Award winner David Haig.

Here’s the official logline for Pressure:

“In the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element — the British weather. Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest-ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.”

Fraser is extremely busy after his Oscar-winning role in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. He stars as Ronay in Behind the Curtain of Night, a sci-fi romance from director Dailibor Stach about a man coming back to life with the ability to see his past lives. Fraser also stars alongside Takehiro Hira and Mari Yamamoto in Rental Family, about a lonely, down-and-out American actor living in Tokyo who starts working for a Japanese “rental family” company to play various stand-in roles in other people’s lives. Along the way, he discovers unexpected joys within his built-in family.

Madelyn Cline

Twenty-seven years after the release of the the slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it HERE) and twenty-six years after the follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one HERE), Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. might be reprising the roles of Julie James and Ray Bronson in a new sequel, which is set for a July 18, 2025 release date. While we wait for confirmation that Hewitt and Prinze have closed their deals, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Camila Mendes (Riverdale), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Sarah Pidgeon (Tiny Beautiful Things), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), and Jonah Hauer -King (The Little Mermaid) have signed on to star in the film.

Details on the characters have not been revealed.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge – which also starred Camila Mendes) is attached to direct the film from a screenplay by Leah McKendrick (M.F.A.), and McKendrick told Collider a while back that the new sequel will reckon with “some big ideas about hero and villain, right and wrong, how your skeletons come back to haunt you. And in the age of the internet and the age where fame is such a revered concept, the creation of TikTok and social media, who is Julie James in a world where there are no secrets anymore?“ McKendrick also said that when she went in to pitch her take to Sony, the most important things they wanted to hear about were “the accident, the event that kicks it off, and who the killer is.

I Know What You Did Last Summer was directed by Jim Gillespie from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson that was inspired by a Lois Duncan novel. The film has the following synopsis: A year after running over a fisherman and dumping his body in the water, four friends reconvene when Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) receives a frightening letter telling her that their crime was seen. While pursuing who he thinks is responsible for the letter, Barry (Ryan Phillippe) is run over by a man with a meat hook. The bloodletting only increases from there, as the killer with the hook continues to stalk Julie, Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.).

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was directed by Danny Cannon from a screenplay by Trey Callaway. The synopsis: A year after killing vengeful hit-and-run victim Ben Wills (Muse Watson), who gutted her friends with an iron hook, college student Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) is still shaken by the experience. When her roommate, Karla (Brandy), wins a vacation for four to the Bahamas, she plans to bring along her boyfriend, Tyrell (Mekhi Phifer), attractive Will (Matthew Settle) and Julie. At the resort, Julie starts receiving threatening notes and realizes Ben is still alive.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider

There have been many Tomb Raider video games over the decades, giving gamers the chance to play as British archaeologist Lara Croft as she goes on globe-trotting adventures, “searching for lost artefacts and infiltrating dangerous tombs and ruins.” Angelina Jolie played the character in two feature films, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003). Alicia Vikander took over the role in the 2018 reboot Tomb Raider – and she was planning to return for a sequel, but then the project fell apart. Now Tomb Raider is set to receive a live-action TV series adaptation on Amazon’s Prime Video, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, whose credits include Crashing, Fleabag, No Time to Die, and Killing Eve, writing and developing the show. During an interview with The Wrap, Amazon MGM Studios television head Vernon Sanders revealed that the search for the show’s Lara Croft will begin soon.

Asked when the Tomb Raider TV series might go into production, Sanders said, “We are hard at work. We’ve got great material. Phoebe is really good. We’re really excited. My guess is we’ll spend the rest of this year getting things prepped so that we can start production early next year. We’ve got to find our Lara Croft, so that global wide search will start sooner rather than later.

It has been said that this will be an “epic” and “globe-trotting” series. Waller-Bridge told Deadline a while back, “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.” Waller-Bridge has also said that she has the opportunity to “do something dangerous and exciting” with the Tomb Raider series.

Are you looking forward to the Tomb Raider TV series? Is there anyone specific you would like to see play Lara Croft on this show? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
