Captain America: Brave New World, Giancarlo Esposito

Giancarlo Esposito officially joined the cast of Captain America: Brave New World in May, hinting that his character is an original creation and “better than you can imagine.” Since the release of the first teaser trailer for the Marvel movie, fans have tried to guess who Esposito might be playing, but during a recent convention appearance, the actor said that no one has correctly guessed his role.

The character I’m playing is a badass,” Esposito said. “That always excites me. For me to develop that character in line with the character’s inception is a fascinating art for me. I had an incredible time shooting it. I’m not telling you who I’m playing…people are trying to guess, and no one has guessed correctly yet.

Marvel scoopers have claimed that Esposito is playing George Washington Bridge, a former mercenary and high-ranking agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now, it’s entirely possible that Esposito hasn’t seen these rumblings, or perhaps he’s correct and really is playing a different character. Time will tell.

Captain America: Brave New World has had a fair number of reshoots, with rumours of significant changes to the script. However, the recent trailer looked pretty solid, with a Winter Soldier-vibe that should please fans. Here’s hoping it can stick the landing. In addition to Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, the movie also features Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres / Falcon, Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns / Leader, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, and Liv Tyler as Betty Ross.

The official synopsis for Captain America: Brave New World reads: “After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.Captain America: Brave New World will hit theaters on February 14th, 2025.

If Giancarlo Esposito really isn’t George Washington Bridge in the Captain America sequel, do you have a guess who he could be playing?

Godzilla Minus Color, Netflix

Netflix has announced that Godzilla Minus Color, the black-and-white version of Godzilla Minus One, will be available to stream on August 1st. This announcement comes just a week after it was revealed that the film would receive a long-awaited 4K release in the US.

Godzilla Minus One was released on Netflix last month, and with Godzilla Minus Color now set to follow suit, it’s a good time for fans of the big guy. The monochromatic version of the movie wasn’t simply a matter of flipping a switch. Director Takashi Yamazaki has previously explained just how much work went into the new cut.

Rather than just making it monochrome, it is a cut by cut. I had them make adjustments while making full use of various mattes, as if they were creating a new movie,” Yamazaki said. “What I was aiming for was a style that looked like it was taken by masters of monochrome photography. We were able to unearth the texture of the skin and the details of the scenery that were hidden in the photographed data. Then, a frightening Godzilla, just like the one in the documentary, appeared. By eliminating color, a new sense of reality emerges. Please live and resist further fear at the theater.

Godzilla Minus One has received widespread acclaim since its release last year, with some even saying it could be the best kaiju movie ever made. The film also won Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards, making it the first Godzilla movie ever to be nominated and then win an Oscar. Steven Spielberg is also a big fan of the movie, which thrilled Yamazaki. “Steven Spielberg said, ‘Oh, you’re the director of Godzilla. I saw it three times.’ I couldn’t believe it, because Spielberg is like a god to me, just for what he’s done for the film industry,” Yamazaki said. “But it sounded very real. [Spielberg went on to say,] ‘I saw it once in my home, and then I had to go see it again in IMAX, then Dolby Atmos.’ You can’t make that up.

Godzilla Minus Color is included in the upcoming 4K release of Godzilla Minus One, which also spans four discs of content, including making-of documentaries, trailers, and much more. At $65, it’s a little pricey for a single movie, but I’m sure there are plenty of Godzilla fans out there who are more than eager to add the movie to their collections. The 4K release is expected to ship this September.

Mission: Impossible 8, Stephen Oyoung

Mission: Impossible 8 has a new addition to the cast, as Deadline reports that Stephen Oyoung (Twisters) has signed on. Of course, there’s no word on who Oyoung will be playing in the movie, but he joins quite the jam-packed ensemble.

In addition to Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible 8 features several returning cast members, including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Vanessa Kirby, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, and Frederick Schmidt. New additions include Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian, and Tramell Tillman.

Oyoung will next be seen in Twisters, but he’s probably best known for playing Martin Li / Mister Negative in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. He has also appeared in movies such as Sicario, Terminator: Dark Fate, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and more. Oyoung has also served as a fight coordinator on a number of projects, including 47 Ronin, The Equalizer, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

We still don’t know a whole lot about Mission: Impossible 8, but it will follow the story set up in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, in which Ethan and his team were tasked with stopping the Entity, a rogue AI capable of controlling global defence intelligence and financial networks. The film was originally titled Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, but after the first movie was perceived to be a box-office disappointment, Paramount rethought its approach. When production on the new movie was forced to shut down due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the studio pushed the release date and announced that it would receive a new title.

Although the expectation was that these two movies would be a “culmination” of the franchise and serve as a “send-off” for Tom Cruise’s character, the actor has recently said that he hopes to take inspiration from Harrison Ford and keep making Mission: Impossible movies until he’s 80. “Harrison Ford is a legend; I hope to be still going; I’ve got 20 years to catch up with him,” Cruise said. “I hope to keep making Mission: Impossible films until I’m his age.” Of course, this all depends on how successful Mission: Impossible 8 is when it hits theaters on May 23, 2025.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man

A new live-action vision of Hellboy will be coming to our screens soon, a franchise reboot called Hellboy: The Crooked Man that has been directed by Crank‘s Brian Taylor from a screenplay by Chris Golden and Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola. A couple weeks ago, we got a look at a teaser trailer for the film – and now distributor Ketchup Entertainment has shared a new image of this film’s version of Hellboy, played this time around by Jack Kesy, who played Black Tom Cassidy in Deadpool 2. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man will see Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man. In the comic, The Crooked Man was an eighteenth-century miser and war profiteer named Jeremiah Witkins who was hanged for his crimes yet returned from Hell as the region’s resident Devil.

Kesy is joined in the cast by Jefferson White of Yellowstone as Tom Ferrell and Adeline Rudolph of the Netflix Resident Evil series as Bobbie Jo Song. According Hellboy.Fandom, Tom Ferrell is a character from the comic books who “was born around 1923 in the Appalachian mountains near the Hurricane (an area locals try to avoid) to a mother we know little of and his father, Charles E. Ferrel, who had a habit of drinking in the back woods. His early misadventures with witchcraft led to a self-imposed exodus.” Tales from the Collection adds that the story will introduce parapsychologist Bobbie Jo Song, who is tasked with delivering a spider to the BPRD but must seek Hellboy’s help when things go awry. Together, they travel to Appalachia to take on the Crooked Man, who has been sent back to Earth to collect souls for the devil.

Millennium Media producer Les Weldon told us this is “a true, dark, DARK, in the style of the comic book take on it. There’s no gloss that any of the other films had. There’s a methodical pace and a real creepiness to it.
