Move over, Vivian Ward! A new sex worker is making the Hollywood scene, and she looks tough as nails. Sean Baker’s first Anora trailer hits the dance floor today, and if you’ve got any children in your vicinity, you should cover their ears. Today’s red-band trailer is full of skin, expletives, and an out-of-control courtship for a young couple, making a Russian oligarch quite angry. Baker’s Anora won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and today, we get a front-row seat for the comedic drama that’s already got people talking.

In NEON‘s Anora trailer, Mickey Madison (Better Things) heads to Las Vegas to tie the knot with her new husband Ivan (Mark Eidelshtein). What begins as a seemingly innocent courtship with parties, private jets, and shopping sprees as a perk for shacking up with a young man of means quickly spirals into a life-threatening breakup as fixers reveal Ivan is the son of a Russian oligarch, who is displeased with his offspring’s reckless marriage to Anora, a sex worker.

Yuriy Borisov, Karren Karagulian, and Vache Tovmasyan also star. FilmNation Entertainment produced, along with Samantha Quan, Alex Coco, and Baker. The film received a 10-minute standing ovation in its world premiere at Cannes.

Sean Baker’s Anora opens in limited theaters on October 18. Neon’s Anora trailer isn’t the only reason the studio is making headlines. Neon recently had its biggest opening ever with Longlegs at $22M+. The Osgood Perkins horror thriller is one of 2024’s scariest films, with Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, and Nicolas Cage delivering unforgettable performances. Longlegs focuses on the pursuit of a serial killer (Cage), with Monroe playing an FBI agent who uncovers a series of occult clues that she must solve to end his terrifying killing spree.

Today’s Anora trailer depicts a jaw-dropping rush of steamy nights, deadly backlash, and confusion amidst what feels like a dream come true. Shotgun romances are often dangerous, especially if the person you’re marrying is less than truthful about who they are and where they come from. Mickey Madison’s Ani is about to discover how quickly life can unravel when marrying into a family thriving on crime.

Armie Hammer has continued to try to set the record straight about the various explosive allegations made about him several years ago. Some of those claims, which included – believe it or not – allegations of cannibal fantasies, led to a complete career meltdown for the former star. He hasn’t been seen on-screen since 2022’s Death on the Nile (which was filmed before the allegations) and was recently the subject of a documentary series called House of Hammer.

However, Hammer has begun to strike back against some of the allegations of sexual abuse levied at him. Last month, he appeared on a podcast called “Painful Lessons,” and now he’s taken his story to a more high-profile outlet, Bill Maher’s YouTube series, Club Random. In the long-form interview, Hammer claimed that the accusations weren’t true and that he never violated anyone’s consent, claiming to have been cleared by multiple authorities. However, he acknowledges that he clearly hasn’t been cleared in the public eye, as he remains “cancelled.”

At one point, Maher directly asks Hammer if he is broke, and Hammer says, “Yeah,” admitting that he doesn’t get any money from his wealthy family. However, he also says that being in a position where, for the first time in his life, he doesn’t have any money has given him a different outlook. “I’ve never been happier than I’ve ever been in my entire life,” he says. He also told Maher that he’s sober and is pretty honest about the “hubris” he experienced earlier in his career, saying that if his life had gone on as it was, without the “cancellation,” he would probably be dead.

Hammer also said that he was quite happy during his short time selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands. When Maher told him he thought it took “balls” to do that, Hammer corrected him, saying it took “bills” to do it, as he has two kids. When Maher expressed disbelief at the point that Hammer could be totally broke, Hammer said that the family money situation is “complicated” and that his father, who had control over much of it, had passed. He also said that any money he would get from the family would come with “strings” and said he prefers to work. In addition to selling timeshares, Hammer said he also applied to be a drama teacher, landscaper, and building manager and that the Cayman Islands refused to give him work permits (his kids and ex-wife live there). He did admit that there’s a world where he could just live off borrowed family money, but he doesn’t want to do that as it’s not who he is.

As it is, Hammer’s career comeback prospects seem dim, but nevertheless, the actor mentioned in his “Painful Lessons’ interview that he’s working on a script. Whatever the case, Hammer is committed to getting his story out there and discussing his recovery from addiction.

Alien: Romulus

Director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, is set to reach theatres on August 16th… and cast member Isabela Merced (Madame Web) believes this movie is going to be scarring some viewers for life. That’s what she told Total Film, and the magazine has also unveiled a few new images from the film. Those can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Merced said, “I really do believe that there are specific sequences in this film that will scar some kids that sneak into the movie for life.” Her co-star David Jonsson (Industry) also hyped the film’s scares and gore, saying, “You can definitely say goodbye to a 12A (rating). The halfway house with Fede is just not his style. If you’re going to try and scare people, then you scare them.” Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) added, “(Fede is always) waiting to do something strange and twisted. And you know he’s got it when you’re right on the edge of going, ‘Should we do this?’ That’s when you know, ‘OK, Fede is in his sweet spot.’

When this project was announced near the start of 2022, it was said that Álvarez pitched the idea to Ridley Scott years ago and it stuck with Scott. So in late 2021, he called Álvarez and asked if he still wanted to make an Alien movie. Clearly, the answer was yes. 20th Century Studios division president Steve Asbell told The Hollywood Reporter that they picked up the project “purely off the strength of Fede’s pitch. It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.“

It has also been said that the story Álvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues crafted for Alien: Romulus is not connected to the other films in the Alien franchise – but it’s not ignoring any of the other entries, either. Álvarez has been clear about the fact that his story takes place within the established franchise continuity. In fact, it slots right in between the events of Alien and Aliens. It has the following official logline: The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (The Batman), and Aileen Wu (Away from Home) are also in the cast. Merced has previously said there’s a scene in the film that’s so disgusting that a lot of viewers will have to look away. “Graphic and gruesome” is what we expected from this movie as soon as it was announced that it was being made by the director of Evil Dead 2013 and Don’t Breathe. It has received an R rating for bloody violent content and language.

This new Alien movie is coming to us from Momentum and 20th Century Studios, with Ridley Scott producing through his Scott Free banner.
