Back in 2020, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia made his feature directorial debut (after a couple decades of making short films) with the thriller The Platform, which was released through the Netflix streaming service. You can read my very positive review of that film at THIS LINK, but the gist of it is that I was very impressed and was left eager to see what Gaztelu-Urrutia would make next. He was assembling a film called Rich Flu before the strikes last year, but it turns out that the next movie we’ll see from him is a sequel to his debut, The Platform 2. This one will also be heading out into the world courtesy of Netflix – and the streamer has just revealed that they will be releasing the film on October 4th, helping kick off the Halloween season. Along with the release date comes the unveiling of a trailer for The Platform 2, and you can check that out in the embed above.

Directed by Gaztelu-Urrutia from a screenplay by David Desola and Pedro Rivero, The Platform told the following story: A vertical prison with one cell per level. Two people per cell. Only one food platform and two minutes per day to feed. An endless nightmare trapped in The Hole. Variety provides the reminder, “The tower’s real name is the Vertical Self-Management Center and it works by allocating a handful of prisoners to each floor. When it comes to meals, a platform abundant with food slowly descends, stopping at each floor for a specific amount of time. But inevitably it means those at the top get first pick – while those at the bottom are lucky to get anything to eat at all.

Gaztelu-Urrutia, Desola, and Rivero share writing credit on The Platform 2 with Egoitz Moreno. Here’s the synopsis: Do you think you can enforce justice in the hell of The Platform? And if you try, who’s going to enforce it? As a mysterious leader imposes their rule in the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in the battle against this controversial method to fight the brutal feeding system. But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you be willing to go to save your life?

The sequel stars Milena Smit (The Girl in the Mirror), Hovik Keuchkerian (Red Queen), Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones), and Óscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series).

Gaztelu-Urrutia produced The Platform 2 with Carlos Júarez and Raquel Perea.

A few months ago, Paramount and Miramax announced that they are reviving the Scary Movie horror parody series to bring a Scary Movie 6 to theatres sometime in 2025 – and that announcement has inspired us to go back and revisit the earlier entries in the franchise. Last month, we covered the original Scary Movie, and now time for Scary Movie 2 (watch it HERE) to get the Revisited treatment. You can hear all about it in the video embedded above.

Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans from a screenplay written by the team of Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Alyson Fouse, Greg Grabianski, Dave Polsky, Michael Anthony Snowden, and Craig Wayans,  Scary Movie 2 has the following synopsis: As the supernatural extension of the first film, Scary Movie 2 casts its satirical eye on such iconic classics as The Exorcist, House on Haunted Hill, and Poltergeist, as well as the more recent films Hannibal and What Lies Beneath. In addition to all things supernatural, it lunges even further, taking on pulp icons including Charlie’s Angels and Mission: Impossible 2.

The film stars Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Christopher Masterson, Kathleen Robertson, David Cross, Tim Curry, Tori Spelling, Chris Elliott, James Woods, Andy Richter, Richard Moll, Veronica Cartwright, Natasha Lyonne, and Beetlejuice.

The Scary Movie 2 episode of Revisited was Written, Narrated, and Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

What do you think of Scary Movie 2, and how would you rank it against its predecessor? Is it worse, better, or just as good as the first Scary Movie? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Two previous episodes of Revisited can be seen below. To see more of our shows, head over to the JoBlo Horror Originals channel – and subscribe while you’re at it!

Jay and Silent Bob

While we wait to hear a specific release date for Kevin Smith’s latest film The 4:30 Movie, which Saban Films will be sending out into the world sometime this fall, Smith is already gearing up to go into production on his next project, a third Jay and Silent Bob movie (following Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot). While Reboot was very similar to Strike Back, Smith has said he’s working to keep this new sequel unpredictable… and, judging by the image he has posted of a prop that has been made for the film, he is succeeding. I never would have predicted that Jay and Silent Bob 3 (we’ll just call it that for now) would feature a volume of the Necromonicon called the NecroBobicon, but a Silent Bob-inspired variation on the Book of the Dead from Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise is apparently in there.

Smith unveiled an image of the prop on social media, writing: “Behold the NecronomiKev – The Book of the Dead Film Careers! Kidding (kinda). It’s actually called The NecroBobicon! I commissioned Nick Brown (graduate of the Tom Savini School) to unearth this ancient, evil tome that features in the new Jay and Silent Bob flick Jason Mewes and I start shooting later this year. The NecroBobicon doesn’t swallow your soul – but legend has it that misuse of the book will leave the reader forever silent…

He has previously revealed that the film will deal with an escalating war in the Central Jersey legal weed business.

So for now, we can only try to imagine how the NecroBobicon gets put to use during this weed war… and I’ll try not to get my hopes up that this means Bruce Campbell could show up in the movie. Campbell is expected to have a role in the Mallrats sequel, if Universal ever decides to give it a greenlight, so why not put him in this movie in the meantime?

In addition to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, the Jay and Silent Bob characters have previously appeared in Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Clerks II, and Clerks III. We’ve also seen animated versions of the characters in Clerks: The Animated Series and Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie. Plus they showed up in Scream 3 and there were some Degrassi shenanigans as well.

Are you looking forward to Jay and Silent Bob 3? Take a look at the NecroBobicon, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Mubi has just released the stylistically flashy yet unsettling trailer for Coralie Fargeat’s new body horror film, The Substance. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, earning rave first reactions and an 11-minute standing ovation, while also catching media attention with its scenes of Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley displaying full frontal nudity.  it has earned its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings boardThe Substance has been rated R for strong bloody violent content, gore, graphic nudity and language.

The press release for the new film reads,
Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself?
You. Only better in every way.
You’ve got to try this product: The Substance.
It changed my life.

Demi Moore gives a career-best performance as Elisabeth Sparkle, a former A-lister past her prime and suddenly fired from her fitness TV show by repellent studio head Harvey (Dennis Quaid).

She is then drawn to the opportunity presented by a mysterious new drug: THE SUBSTANCE. All it takes is one injection and she is reborn – temporarily – as the gorgeous, twentysomething Sue (Margaret Qualley).

The only rule? Time needs to be split: exactly one week in one body, then one week in the other. No exceptions. A perfect balance. What could go wrong?

Deliriously entertaining and ruthlessly satirical, Coralie Fargeat’s Cannes sensation turns toxic beauty culture inside out with a be-careful-what-you-wish-for fable for the ages. Explosive, provocative and twisted, THE SUBSTANCE marks the arrival of a thrillingly visionary filmmaker.”

The film’s star Demi Moore would recently cite this project as one that re-engage with her career after having doubts, “What I love is this was a rich, complex, demanding role that gave me an opportunity to really push myself outside of my comfort zone, and in the end to feel like I explored and grew not only as an actor, but as a person.” So, what does Demi Moore hope comes of The Substance as far as where her career is headed? “If there’s any hope, it’s really just to kind of re-engage in a way. I feel like I took a real step back for a long time and really questioned even whether or not this is what I should be doing. This was a part of waking myself up.”

The Monkey Stephen King

Back in March, we heard that production had wrapped on the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, which is coming our way from the team of producer / genre regular James Wan and director Osgood Perkins, whose credits include The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the HouseGretel & Hansel, and the upcoming Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs , which will be reaching theatres on July 12th (you can read our review HERE), courtesy of Neon – and they’ll also be be giving The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. So we’ll be getting two Osgood Perkins movies from Neon just seven months apart – and while doing the press rounds for Longlegs, Perkins has revealed that he has made The Monkey “deliberately comedic.”

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Perkins was asked to confirm that The Monkey is “the funniest movie he’s ever made?” (Which wouldn’t be a tough hurdle to clear, since his movies up to this point have been far from being comedies.) Perkins confirmed it is. “By far. It’s deliberately comedic. It’s feeling more like an old John Landis movie or a Joe Dante movie or a Robert Zemeckis movie. I saw an opportunity to make a wry, absurdist comedy about death. It’s about the very basic fact that we all die — and how f*cking funny and weird and impossible and surreal is that shit? And to come at it from a tragicomedy kind of voice felt like it fit. At the end of the day, if you want to reduce it, it’s the haunted toy or evil toy subgenre, and I couldn’t imagine doing a serious one of those. To me, it rang utterly false to approach it that way, so I just went in the other direction. For me, the movie is a smile from top to bottom, and I’m really looking forward to people seeing it.

Perkins wrote the screenplay for The Monkey, working from a King short story. The film will tell the following story: When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers must reunite to find a way to destroy the monkey for good before it takes the lives of everyone close to them.

Theo James (The White Lotus) plays the twins in later years, while Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth) plays them in their younger days. Also in the cast are Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Tatiana Maslany (SheHulkAttorney at Law), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends), and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek).

James Wan and Michael Clear are producing The Monkey for Atomic Monster, while Jason Cloth and Dave Caplan produce for C2 Motion Picture Group. Executive producers include Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger of Automatik, Peter Luo and Nancy Xu of Stars Collective, John Friedberg of Black Bear, and Chris Ferguson. Atomic Monster and Stars Collective developed the project, and C2 Motion Picture Group provided the financing.

Wan previously provided the following statement: “Stephen King is the godfather of the horror genre. He had a huge influence on me as a child and throughout my career and it’s always been a dream to help bring one of his stories to life. The Monkey is a personal favorite, with its simple, iconic, and incredibly marketable conceit. And I can’t imagine anyone better than a visionary and lifelong genre fan like Osgood to bring this to life.

In addition to directing the films mentioned at the top of this article, Perkins directed an episode of the recent revival of The Twilight Zone. He has also worked on the screenplays for the thriller Removal, the crime thriller Cold Comes the Night, and the horror film The Girl in the Photographs.
