Joe Bob Briggs

Earlier this year, Shudder renewed The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs for a supersized sixth season that was designed to make sure Joe Bob Briggs would be an even more consistent presence on the streaming service throughout the year. Normally, a season of The Last Drive-In would see Joe Bob hosting double features every Friday for ten weeks straight. This season has taken a different approach, having Joe Bob host a single movie every other Friday. Following a special Roger Corman double feature on March 15th, season 6 officially got started on March 29th – and Shudder has just announced that the season is going to wrap up with a special event: a six film marathon called The Last Drive-In: Nightmareathon!

A press release informs us that The Last Drive-In: Nightmareathon will premiere on Friday, August 30th at 9pm ET on the Shudder TV and AMC+ TV feeds. The marathon will then be available on demand on both platforms the following Sunday, September 1st.

The special has the following description: Joe Bob Briggs, Darcy the Mail Girl, and a few surprise guests are up all night to party like jungle animals for The Last Drive-In: Nightmareathon, a dusk-to-dawn marathon event celebrating 6 years and 6 seasons with 6 killer movies… just like the devil intended.

On The Last Drive-In, the world’s foremost drive-in movie critic hosts eclectic horror movies, talking about their merits, histories and significance to genre cinema.

Here’s how season 6 has gone so far: Joe Bob showed Rottentail on March 29th, The Toxic Avenger (with special guest Lloyd Kaufman) on April 12th, The Autopsy of Jane Doe (with special guests Eric Garcia, Ian Goldberg, and Richard Naing) on April 26th, Death Spa on May 10th, Graduation Day on May 24th, Donnie Darko (with special guest Bob Berney) on June 7th, Suitable Flesh (with special guest Joe Lynch) on June 21st, Dr. Giggles on July 5th, and Carnival of Souls on July 19th. There will be shows on August 2nd and 16th, leading to the marathon event on the 30th. Since the The Last Drive-In era of Joe Bob’s career got started with a thirteen movie marathon back in 2018, a six movie marathon does indeed some like the perfect way to wrap up season 6.

The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs is produced by Matt Manjourides and Justin Martell and directed by Austin Jennings. Joe Bob is joined on every episode by Diana Prince as Darcy the Mail Girl.

Olympics Paris, Tom Cruise, stunt, closing ceremony

What’s the Paris Olympics without a stunt performed by one of America’s balliest celebrities to close the show? According to reports, the Man Without Fear, Tom Cruise, plans to perform a death-defying stunt when the Olympic flag gets delivered to Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Olympics.

Details about Cruise’s participation in the ceremony remain a mystery. However, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, who will receive the flag from Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, says, “Expect a major Hollywood production.”

Sources close to the shadowy stunt say Tom Cruise’s stunt involves the Mission: Impossible actor rappelling down from the top of Stade de France and landing on the stadium field, Olympic flag in hand. The lead-up to the stunt reportedly includes footage of Tom’s airplane ride to the location, then skydiving onto the Hollywood sign. Photos of Tom climbing down the Hollywood sign are circulating online, though footage of his jump remains unseen.

According to sources, Cruise approached the International Olympic Committee about performing a sequence of stunts before the handoff.

The 2024 Olympics are taking the public eye and social media outlets by storm as audiences marvel at the incredible feats of athleticism and sportsmanship. The summer Olympics are a great distraction from other dumpster fires making headlines, giving everyone a sense of pride and camaraderie as talented and deserving individuals compete for the gold.

In one of the summer’s most astounding displays of athleticism, gymnast Simone Biles became the third woman in history to win multiple golds in the all-around! On a more disturbing note, Olympic athletes swam in the Seine after bacteria levels dropped in the Paris river. However, while they’ve swum in worse, many athletes complained the water was unfit for swimming.

“I have no doubts about the quality of the Seine, we’ve swum in worse water,” Cassandre Beaugrand of France, who won the women’s triathlon, told Reuters.

“I’m definitely going to be visiting the bathroom later, I swallowed gallons and gallons of water, so that’s gonna be a fun post-race party,” South Africa’s Jamie Riddle said after the men’s swim. Footage of the swimmers retching after exiting the water is circulating online. Who thought this was a good idea?

Waiting for Godot, Broadway, Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter

Station! After embarking on an excellent adventure for the 2020 comedy Bill & Ted Face the Music, Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix) and Alex Winter (Lost Boys, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey) are reuniting for a Broadway production of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot in fall 2025, with Jamie Lloyd directing.

Waiting for Godot revolves around two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, who engage in various conversations while awaiting the arrival of Godot, who never appears. The two-act play finds Vladimir and Estragon comparing hardships and meeting strangers crossing their paths. As the two men wait for Godot’s fabled arrival, existentialism takes hold, bringing their existence and anticipation of meeting Godot into question. Confusion, suicidal thoughts, and indecision plague the duo as they weigh options.

Keanu Reeves plays Estragon in the play, while Alex Winter plays Vladimir. The production unfolds at an ATG (Ambassador Theatre Group) theater.

“We’re incredibly excited to be on stage together and work with the great Jamie Lloyd in one of our favorite plays,” Reeves and Winter said in a joint statement.

“It is a real honor to be collaborating with the brilliant Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter on Samuel Beckett’s sublime masterpiece — one of the greatest plays of all time,” Lloyd added.

Further details about Reeves and Winter’s Waiting for Godot, including additional casting, creative teams, and more, remain a mystery.

Keanu Reeves shared news about his upcoming BRZRKR adaptation at San Diego Comic-Con, saying Terminator Zero screenwriter Mattson Tomlin will serve as showrunner for the anticipated project. Work on the anime intends to start this fall.

“We all have a very special place in our hearts for the Animatrix,” said Boom! Studios president Stephen Christy during the panel. “So when we were lucky enough to get an opportunity to collaborate with Netflix on the movie, we just don’t just want to present a movie. We would like to do an adult anime. To have Mattson [Tomlin], who is doing the Terminator as he mentioned…I think we’re oging to have a chance to go to some of the worlds that you see in the comics, the specials…and hopefully it’ll pay tribute to the anime that we love as fans.”

Trick 'r Treat

Another Halloween season is almost upon us, and we’re still waiting for director Mike Dougherty to get the long-awaited sequel to his horror anthology film Trick ‘r Treat (watch it HERE) into production. Back in 2022, he said the sequel is in “very active development“ and last year he mentioned that there is a “really great script” in place that he wrote with his Krampus collaborators Zach Shields and Todd Casey… and yet we still haven’t heard anything about the sequel actually getting made. While we wait to find out what’s going to happen with the sequel, Arrow Video has announced that they’re going to give the first movie a limited edition 4K release! Pre-orders for the UK version of the 4K release are available at THIS LINK, and the North American version of the release can be pre-ordered at THIS LINK. Written and directed by Dougherty, Trick ‘r Treat has the following description: Dive into the sinister and darkly humorous world of Trick ‘r Treat, written and directed by Michael Dougherty. This anthology film communes with the spirits of classic horror portmanteaus like Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt, weaving together four chilling tales, all taking place during the same fateful Halloween night. Follow the secretive and disturbing life of a high school principal (Dylan Baker) who leads a double life as a ruthless serial killer; the journey of a young girl (Anna Paquin) looking for love who finds something infinitely more macabre; a group of teenagers playing a prank with disastrous consequences; and an old man (Brian Cox) confronted by Sam, a mischievous trick-or-treater with a terrifying secret. With its interwoven tales of terror and unforgettable characters, Trick ‘r Treat has cemented itself as a Halloween essential, paying loving homage to the golden age of horror comics and 80s creature features with a slick modern style sure to send shivers down the spine of any fright fiend. Get ready for the scariest Halloween of your life – and remember, always check your candy!

jamie lee curtis marvel

We all know that not everyone is a fan of superhero movies but it’s still rare for a celebrity to openly bash them. After all, no matter what you think of them going in, that’s a nice paycheck and global exposure, something few actors can pass up. But when Jamie Lee Curtis was recently quizzed by MTV to name which “phase” the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently in, she had a one word response: “Bad.” So no MCU for JLC.

But now, Jamie Lee Curtis has issued an apology over her remarks about Marvel, even going so far as to reach out to the company’s president. As she posted on social media: “I will do better. I’ve reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud slinging sandbox of competition we call the internet nor will I engage in the toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content.” Of note, replies have been turned off to that post, with the actress either looking to move on or stay as far away from assembling Marvel fans as possible.

Jamie Lee Curtis was already a public enemy to the Marvel fandom after having beat out Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Angela Bassett for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, having nabbed it for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Many considered JLC’s win a lifetime honor as opposed to it being one worthy of the actual Academy Award, thus robbing Bassett for her performance as Queen Ramonda. With her recent jab, no doubt MCU fanatics will insist she just focus on the Freaky Friday sequel instead of worrying about the goings-on in the multi-billion-dollar franchise.

In the meantime, Jamie Lee Curtis has ties to another series entirely, as she is set to appear in Eli Roth’s Borderlands, which is based on the first-person shooting video game series of the same name. JLC plays Dr. Patricia Tannis, while the rest of the cast includes Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Édgar Ramírez, and Ariana Greenblatt.

What do you make of Jamie Lee Curtis’ Marvel bash? Do you think her apology was genuine? Give us your thoughts below!
