Craig Conway Doomsday Neil Marshall

Neil Marshall got his feature directorial career started with one of the coolest werewolf movies ever made, Dog Soldiers, which begins with a scene where a camper played by Craig Conway gets attacked by a monstrous beast. Marshall went on to cast Conway as a different sort of monstrous beast in his next film, The Descent, then as a power-hungry cannibal named Sol in his film Doomsday (pictured above). Now Marshall is serving as an executive producer on Conway’s own feature directorial debut… and judging by the title, Conway might be getting his directing career started in a way similar to Marshall’s own. Because when I see the title Little Red, my first thought is that this could be a werewolf movie.

Deadline has confirmed that Little Red “will reimagine the Little Red Riding Hood story through a contemporary lens.” The involvement of werewolves, however, has not been confirmed. The story follows a fifteen year-old girl who unravels the dark secrets in her family.

House54 is producing Little Red, in association with Newtown Entertainment. Paul Murray is also a producer on the project, as is cinematographer Daniel Patrick Vaughan. Conway will be directing the film from a screenplay by Peter Stylianou, who previously wrote and directed the 2020 crime drama The Lost and the 2013 crime thriller Who Needs Enemies.

In addition to his Conway collaborations, Neil Marshall has directed The LairThe Reckoning, Hellboy (2019), Centurion, a segment of the anthology Tales of Halloween, and episodes of Black Sails, Game of Thrones, Constantine, Hannibal, Timeless, Westworld, and Lost in Space. His latest movie is the action thriller Duchess, which Saban Films will be giving a digital and VOD release on August 9th. In the UK, Duchess will be getting a limited theatrical release on August 9th, and will then be available for digital download on the 12th.

I have enjoyed the movies Neil Marshall directed Craig Conway in, so I’m looking forward to seeing what a Conway-directed horror film that’s executive produced by Marshall will be like.

Wayward Netflix

Netflix has announced that the thriller series Wayward has started filming in the Toronto area – and along with the start of production comes the unveiling of a couple pictures that show cast members on set! Those images can be seen in this article.

Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense), Mae Martin (The Flight Attendant), Sarah Gadon (Dracula Untold), Sydney Topliffe (Davey & Jonesie’s Locker), Alyvia Alyn Lind (Chucky), Brandon Jay McLaren (Tucker and Dale vs Evil), Patrick J. Adams (Suits), Joshua Close (The Unusuals), and Patrick Gallagher (Big Sky) star in Wayward, a thriller set in a bucolic but sinister town that explores the insidious underbelly of the “troubled teen industry” and the eternal struggle between one generation and the next.

Cast member Mae Martin is also the creator of the show and serves as co-showrunner with Ryan Scott. Martin and Scott are executive producing the series with Hannah Mackay, as well as Jennifer Kawaja and Bruno Dubé of Sphere Media and Ben Farrell, who is producing through his company Objective Fiction.

Another executive producer on Wayward is director Euros Lyn, whose previous credits include episodes of Heartstopper and Doctor Who. Lyn will be directing the first, second, seventh, and eighth episode of Wayward. The other episodes are being directed by Renuka Jeyapalan, who has directed the romance film Stay the Night and episodes of Son of a Critch, and John Fawcett, whose credits include episodes of Orphan Black and the horror film Ginger Snaps, which is my favorite werewolf movie.

Martin, who previously co-created and starred in the Netflix comedy series Feel Good, provided the following statement: “We are deep in the bizarre world of Wayward, and I am so excited to show everyone what we’ve been making — what a cast! I hope this show ignites the rebellious teenagers that exist in all of us. And, most importantly, let’s acknowledge that my hair is now several shades darker than previously, indicating that I am now in fact a serious actor.

The teaser trailer for the new Peacock series The Day of the Jackal premiered during NBC’s and Peacock’s coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony. The trailer is now online for audiences to view. The concept is a reimagining of the 1973 film adaptation from Universal Pictures. In The Day of the Jackal, Redmayne plays the Jackal, a professional assassin hired by a French paramilitary dissident to kill French President Charles de Gaulle in 1962. The new series stars Eddie Redmayne, Lashana Lynch and Úrsula Corberó.

The synopsis, per Deadline, reads,
“It follows an unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal (Redmayne), who makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee. But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake. The new version has been reimagined as a contemporary story set amidst the current turbulent geo-political landscape and will delve deeper into the chameleon-like anti-hero.”

Inspired by Frederick Forsyth’s novel of the same name (and Universal’s film adaptation), the new version brings the character and story to a contemporary setting, letting our corrupt geo-political landscape loose in a world of deception, lies, cover-ups, and death. In addition to telling an intriguing tale of careful murder, The Day of the Jackal series will meditate on the concept of an anti-hero.

Ronan Bennett (Top BoyPublic EnemiesGunpowder) will showrun and write the series, with Brian Kirk (Game of ThronesLuther) directing. In addition to his starring role, Redmayne will executive produce alongside Carnival Films’ Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant and Sky Studios’ Sam Hoyle. Marianne Buckland serves as co-exec producer, Frederick Forsyth is consulting producer, and Christopher Hall is producing.

The Day of the Jackal series will shoot its shot on Peacock in the U.S. and Sky in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. NBCUniversal Global Distribution is negotiating international sales of the new series.

The Day of the Jackal will premiere on Peacock and Sky on November 7.
