The First Descendant has been continuously updated since its July 2, 2024 launch, adding hotfixes alongside new characters to tempt players into purchasing Caliber to unlock. One of these latest additions is Ultimate Valby. Some players might find the name rather familiar, since Valby was a launch character, but this…
While fans of the Showtime series Yellowjackets (read our review of season 2 HERE) patiently wait to see the bonus episode that’s going to air sometime between the second and third seasons, the third season of the show has already been filming in Canada for months now, aiming for a 2025 premiere. As cameras continue to roll, Variety has learned that Community‘s Joel McHale has joined the cast, taking on a guest star role. Details on the character McHale will be playing have not been revealed.
Yellowjackets is described as “equal parts survival epic, horror story, and coming-of-age drama.” The story centers on a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. The series will chronicle their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.
Created, written, executive produced by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, the series stars Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Ella Purnell, Sammi Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, Steven Krueger, Amy Okuda, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Courtney Eaton, and Liv Hewson. New cast additions in Yellowjackets season 2 included Elijah Wood (the Lord of the Rings trilogy), Lauren Ambrose (Servant), Simone Kessell (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Nicole Maines (Supergirl), François Arnaud (The Borgias), Nia Sondaya (Truth Be Told), and guest star Jason Ritter (Freddy vs. Jason). Lyle and Nickerson serve as showrunners with Jonathan Lisco.
I’m all caught up on Yellowjackets, and while I thought season 2 was a step down from its predecessor, I’m eagerly looking forward to season 3. It will be interesting to see what Joel McHale brings to the show. Ricci recently said, “This season is going to be even more shocking and surprising than the previous seasons. It’s definitely going to be brutal. But they also put a lot of comedy into it. So I think it’s just going to be… extremely Yellowjackets-y.“

Back in April, we heard that Greg McLean, the director of the horror films Wolf Creek, Wolf Creek 2, Rogue, The Darkness, and The Belko Experiment (as well as the survival thriller Jungle), had signed on to direct the action horror movie Graveyard Smash from a screenplay by Old Henry and Would You Rather writer Gus Krieger… and while that project is expected to start filming this year, McLean is already looking ahead to his next project, as Deadline reports that he will be writing and directing a supernatural thriller called The First Exorcist, with production to take place in Victoria, Australia sometime in 2025.
A collaboration between McLean’s Emu Creek Pictures and Mark Fennessy’s Helium, The First Exorcist is not, despite what the title may have made you assume, a prequel to The Exorcist. This is not a The First Omen situation. This is a separate and original project that is said to be a “spellbinding fusion of religious and supernatural events set in Biblical times,” following a mother as she goes on “a harrowing quest to save her daughter from demonic possession.” Here’s the synopsis: As their lives descend into a nightmare, the mother learns of a mysterious healer with the power to expel demons, and embarks on a dangerous race against time – encountering hostile Roman authorities on her perilous mission to find the healer and save her daughter’s life.
Deadline notes, “The plan is to use cutting edge virtual production tech in Victoria to bring epic ancient cities and locations to life.“
Fennessy provided the following statement: “Greg’s script delivers an intensity and emotional depth that, combined with jaw-dropping scares, a fascinating historical setting and powerful supernatural themes, will create a milestone film experience. His refined storytelling and dynamic visual style will elevate The First Exorcist, and we are thrilled to bring his spine-chilling vision to life.“
I don’t generally like exorcism movies, but I have been following McLean’s career since the start, so I will definitely be watching The First Exorcist. And while this isn’t part of the Exorcist franchise, that series hasn’t gone dormant – Mike Flanagan is set to write and direct a new Exorcist movie that’s aiming for a 2026 release.

Did you know that Quentin Tarantino loves the first three Toy Story movies, and even considers the third entry in the franchise to be one of the best movies he’s ever seen? Well, now you know. And he also has some thoughts on Toy Story 4, too.

Katya Martín, who is best known for her role in the short-lived ABC series Promised Land, and Catharine Daddario, who was recently seen in IF – and yes, if the last name made you wonder, she is the sister of Alexandra Daddario from Mayfair Witches, True Detective, and Texas Chainsaw 3D – have signed on to star in the horror comedy Muffled, Deadline reports. Filming is expected to begin in the Greater New Orleans area sometime in early September.
Muffled marks the feature debut of writer/director Stephen McNamee, who has a decade of short films to his name. The story McNamee has crafted for this one follows Nora (Martín) and Harper (Daddario) as they return to their hometown to investigate the disappearance of a childhood friend. While interviewing old acquaintances, they discover that their questions are unwelcome, and soon their search takes a dark turn.
Stephen McNamee and Burns McNamee are producing the film under their banner I’m Okay Productions, along with Adam Kinyon of Best Dressed Films.
In addition to Promised Land, where she took on the role of Juana Sánchez for 10 episodes, Martín’s credits include The Death That Awaits, Hungry, The Godfather of Harlem, Big Sky, Roadkill, The Wisdom Tooth, Trailer Park Princess, The Affair, The Invisible Worm, Ten, My First Miracle, My Crazy Love, Deadly Sins, and Momsters: When Moms Go Bad. Daddario played Bea’s Mom in IF and has also been seen in Oak, The Tomorrow Job, Dance Dads, Dying for a Crown, Alia’s Birth, The Retreat, Monstrous (a Bigfoot movie, not the Christina Ricci movie), The Good Fight, Donna Stronger Than Pretty, The Whole Truth with Sunny Hostin, and Lake Artifact.
Muffled sounds interesting to me, and I look forward to finding out exactly how Nora and Harper’s search for answers about their friend’s disappearance will get them in trouble. I’m also interested in seeing what the movie’s comedic element is going to be like, because the synopsis makes the story sound quite serious.

The Ghost with the Most tries to choke down wings with ghost pepper on them as he sits in the hot seat for a parody on the popular online interview show Hot Ones. Hot Ones is a mini-talk show that took off in popularity with its fun format of host Sean Evans getting celebrities to sit down and answer ten well-thought questions as they try to challenge their stomachs by eating chicken wings with sauce that get increasingly and unforgivingly hotter as the interview moves along.
While Hot Ones has had a recent sketch-like episode with Donald Duck appearing as a guest, as he celebrates 90 years of his character, this new short parody from Warner Bros. is not an official episode. However, it is very closely copied to mimic the whole look of one (although, the host and guest eat ribs here as opposed to wings) and is titled Not Ones. Instead of Sean Evans hosting, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star Michael Keaton attempts to interview Beetlejuice (here it’s spelled with the in-movie spelling ‘Betelgeuse’) and he’s finding out firsthand how difficult it is to deal with the paranormal being.
Keaton attempts to ask questions that inquire who Beetlejuice’s inspirations are, to which he amusingly replies, “Napoleon was a pal. [Justin] Bieber, of course, for obvious reasons…Caligula was a wild man, gotta say that.” At one point, Keaton asks how the ribs taste and Beetlejuice answers, “It’s eerily reminiscent of a guy I ate in Seattle.” Eventually, even the actor who portrays him can no longer stomach the character, and he just gives up on the interview altogether.
Recently, Keaton’s co-star Jenna Ortega said in an interview how starstruck she was with him during the production. “I have been such a fan of Michael Keaton for such a long time that I think actually seeing him in person, I went inside myself because I weirdly got shy,” she says as she then added that when she first saw Keaton portray Beetlejuice, that it “was the first time I think I saw someone completely disappear, no bit of themselves involved, so that was pretty special.” She also expressed her excitement to play the daughter of Winona Rider’s character, “Winona was so welcoming. I feel really, really lucky to have been able to create such a bond with her on set.”
