Black Myth: Wukong isn’t a Souls-like but it is full of boss fights. Some of them are really tough and will beat you to a pulp, so it’s extra cool that there’s at least one secret encounter where you get to watch the bosses beat the crap out of each other instead.

he Purge franchise creator James DeMonaco directed the first three movies in that series, then when he decided to pass the helm over to another director for the fourth film, a prequel called The First Purge, the person chosen for the job was Gerard McMurray, who made his feature directorial debut with the 2017 Netflix drama Burning Sands. Earlier this month, we learned that McMurray is currently in production on his first movie since The First Purge was released six years ago: the horror film Goons, which has The Exorcism‘s Chloe Bailey and Power‘sMichael Rainey Jr. in the lead roles. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the names of five more cast members. They are: Serayah McNeill (Empire), SteVonté Hart (Bel-Air), rapper YG, J. Alphonse Nicholson (P-Valley), and Tyler Lepley (Harlem). Details on the characters they’ll be playing have not been revealed.
Filming on Goons is taking place in New Orleans and nearby areas, and the story is said to be set amid the eerie backdrop of the state’s cane fields and plantations. McMurray wrote the script with Hodge K. Johnson, but details on the plot are being kept under wraps.
Tommy Oliver is producing the film through the New Fear Unlocked Productions genre label of his company Confluential Films, which is dedicated to making “bold, elevated, culturally specific horror films from creators of color.” Confluential Films is also fully funding the project.
Oliver provided the following statement: “I can’t wait for audiences to see what Gerard and I are cooking up with the kick-ass squad we’ve assembled. I also couldn’t be more excited to kick off New Fear Unlocked with this film from such a talented director.“
McMurray added: “I’m beyond excited to direct a film in the horror genre. Goons is a love letter to my hometown of New Orleans, and a deeply personal story for me. Producing this film along with Confluential/New Fear Unlocked shows the power of Black storytellers with a collaborative spirit.“ Commenting on the new additions to the cast, the director said, “YG, J. Alphonse, Serayah, SteVonté, and Tyler all bring their own unique flavor to this amazing recipe we are cooking up on Goons here in my hometown of New Orleans. I can’t wait for the world to see what we are putting together with this young, gifted cast.“

It’s time for a new episode of the Real Slashers video series, and with this one we’re heading back to the last year of the glorious decade known as the 1980s… a year in which three of the major franchises each received a sequel that wasn’t very well received. In 19889, Friday the 13th got Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Halloween got Halloween 5, and the Elm Street franchise got A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (watch it HERE). You can hear all about The Dream Child, one of the least popular Freddy Krueger movies, it in the video embedded above.
Directed by Stephen Hopkins from a screenplay by Leslie Bohem and a story crafted by John Skipp and Craig Spector, The Dream Child has the following synopsis: The fifth installment of the popular franchise focuses on Alice, a survivor of the fourth, who believes Freddy Krueger has been eliminated for good. She optimistically hopes to start a life with fellow survivor Dan. The nightmares begin soon enough, though, and Alice learns she is pregnant. When her friends start dying, Alice suspects that Freddy is using the fetus within her as a weapon. Can she fight the demon while protecting her unborn child?
The film stars Lisa Wilcox, Kelly Jo Minter, Erika Anderson, Danny Hassel, Beatrice Boepple, Whitby Hertford, Joe Seely, and Nicholas Mele, with Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger and Michael Bailey Smith as Super Freddy.
Here’s what Real Slashers is all about: Ahhh the ’80s. A simpler time where the blood ran red, the boobies swung freely, and the weed was copiously smoked. A time where rampant killers were simply excuses for excessive sex and over the top murder. Yes, we’re looking at an era where the slasher movie ran wild over cinemas everywhere. Today, we’re looking at “Real Slashers.”
The show is Written, Narrated, and Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

Horror film enthusiast and director Guillermo Del Toro is currently at work, bringing his new incarnation of Frankenstein to life. And while he is in production, the director shares with fans that he’s also staying at an old 1800s hotel, which seemingly gave him the creeps as he felt he couldn’t stay there anymore. Del Toro posted to his fans, “UPDATE-. I can only say:. Nothingbhas happened yet, but the atmosphere in the room is opressive and I am not gonna spend much more time there. It may be suggestion, but at this point I kept it but am sleeping in another room- I need 6 hours of sleep to have a good shooting day- Im stopping there early and late in the day- but something is in that room with me… If anything happens or Nothing does expect one or two more updates.”
Whatever may have been in the room with him, that’s not the only thing haunting the Pacific Rim director. Vulture recently sat down with Del Toro and the original Hellboy filmmaker spoke candidly about how the negative reception of his 2015 film, Crimson Peak, still affects him. Del Toro was asked how he felt about how it’d been received now that time has passed and he replies, “The thing that will always, pun intended, haunt that movie is that it was sold as a horror movie. But I remember distinctly, when we had the meetings [about promotion], they were all targeted toward getting the horror audience for the opening weekend. And I knew we were doomed! I was saying, ‘You should promote the romance, and you should promote the mystery. The last thing you want to do is promote it as horror.’ We were opening in October, and October is the month of Halloween, so I understand why it happened.”
He continues to say that he’s finding peace with it more and more as the film slowly collects its audience, “But, you know, it’s a movie that connects with the people who love it at an almost molecular level. Little by little, some movies gather their audience through the years. Some others are very successful right when they come out, then you don’t hear from them again. We can have every variation. I’m finding that I’m happier when I’m in a relationship with people who truly find a movie and own it.”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel to director Tim Burton’s 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it HERE), is set to reach theatres on September 6th – and when we catch up with the title character, as played by Michael Keaton, we can expect him to be exactly the same character he was when we first met him 36 years ago. Speaking to Collider, Burton promised that Beetlejuice is still politically incorrect and has not undergone any sort of character evolution over the decades.
Burton said, “Michael [Keaton] and I both love the fact that he was politically incorrect then, and he’s politically incorrect now. [Laughs] I’m just laughing because somebody asked him the other day, ‘Michael, how does Beetlejuice’s character evolve?’ And we just started laughing because he doesn’t evolve — that’s the whole point!“
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was in development hell for decades before it finally got made. In 1990, Jonathan Gems was hired to write a sequel that was going to be titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Burton considered having Daniel Waters rewrite that script, Pamela Norris did rewrite it, and Warner Bros. offered Kevin Smith the chance to do another rewrite. He turned it down. Seth Grahame-Smith was hired to write and produce a new version of a sequel in 2011. Mike Vukadinovich was brought on to rewrite his script in 2017.
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, co-creators and co-showrunners of Wednesday, have written the screenplay for Beetlejuice 2 that was actually filmed. Brad Pitt’s Plan B is producing the sequel, which filmed in London before moving to Vermont and Massachusetts.
Here’s the official synopsis: Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
As mentioned, Michael Keaton is back as Beetlejuice and is joined in the cast by Winona Ryder, reprising the role of Lydia Deetz (now the host of a TV series called Ghost House with Lydia Deetz); Catherine O’Hara, back as Lydia’s stepmother Delia; Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter Astrid, Justin Theroux as Lydia’s fiancé Rory, Monica Bellucci as Beetlejuice’s wife, and Willem Dafoe as a law enforcement officer in the afterlife. Arthur Conti is also in there, in an unspecified role.
Are you looking forward to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and are you glad to hear that Beetlejuice is still the same politically incorrect character he always was? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
