Andor, season 2

When it was first revealed that Lucasfilm was working on a Rogue One prequel series centering on Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), fans weren’t overly excited by the project. However, that tune quickly changed when Andor premiered on Disney+ and became (in my opinion) the best live-action Star Wars TV series. Andor season 2 will premiere next year, and while it has some tough shoes to fill, Adria Arjona believes it will be even better than the first.

Oh man, when I read season one, I pinched myself, and when I started reading season two, I was like, ‘[Tony Gilroy] can’t outdo [season one],’” Arjona told THR. “So I started reading episode one, and I was again like, ‘It’s not going to be as good.’ But it’s f**king better. It’s so much better. It is. What he has crafted and created is mind-blowing, and I can’t believe I got to be a part of it. I have Tony Gilroy on speed dial. I don’t think that man gets bothered by anybody else but me. I’m like, ‘Hey, Tony, do you think I should do this? Hey, Tony, how are you?’ And he’s like, ‘You’re calling again?’ (Laughs.) I just have so much respect for him. He’s so talented, and he really outdid himself for season two.

These types of comments from cast members typically feel like pointless hype, but in the case of Andor season 2, I’m inclined to believe it. Arjona plays Bix Caleen in Andor, a mechanic and close friend of Cassian’s.

Speaking of Cassian, Diego Luna teased the upcoming season while speaking with Entertainment Weekly, expressing his excitement at getting to work with his buddy K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) again. “It was delicious to get to work with Alan again and be on the same set with him,” he said. “It just helps fulfill the full circle. You’re going to see why K-2 is so important in Rogue One, and how does he get to be such an important character for the Rebellion.” The second season will take place over the span of four years and directly lead into Rogue One, and Luna said that it may change how people view the film. “I think people watching Rogue One, after watching season 2, are going to see a different film,” Luna said. “Everything will be signified differently knowing what had to happen for K-2 to be there. It’s going to make you witness the journey of Rogue One in a different way, I think. And not just with K-2, but with many other characters. I think it’ll be really cool.

Andor season 2 doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2025.

Session 9

Brad Anderson’s Session 9 has been one of my favorite psychological horror films ever since I caught a theatrical screening of it at a 24 hour horror marathon in 2001, so it’s cool to hear that horror and dark fantasy author Christian Francis – who has previously written novelizations of the films WishmasterTitan Find/Creature, and Vamp – is giving Anderson‘s cult classic the novelization treatment, with Echo Horror Publications planning to send the book out into the world on October 4th – just in time for Halloween season reading!

Starring David Caruso, Peter Mullan, Paul Guilfoyle, Josh Lucas, Stephen Gevedon, and Brendan Sexton III, Session 9 features one of the most epic F-bombs in cinema history and tells the following story: Grand, imposing… abandoned and deteriorating, the Danvers State Mental Hospital, closed down for 15 years is about to receive 5 new visitors. Donning protective gear, the men of the Hazmat Elimination Co. venture into the eerily vast and vacant asylum that is filled with an evil and mysterious past. Rampant patient abuse, medieval medical procedure and rumors of demonic possession are some of the many dark secrets the hospital holds – but then so do each of the men.

A press release informs us that, with Session 9: The Official Novelization, Francis is aiming to “deliver a wealth of fresh nightmares to a new generation” while delving “deeper into the eerie madness that made Session 9 such a horror gem. Set against the backdrop of the real-life abandoned mental institution, the Danvers State Hospital, the film’s atmospheric dread is reimagined on the page in Francis’ adept hands. This novel expands on the film’s screenplay, offering fans new insights into the characters’ psyches and unveiling more twisted, dark secrets from within the sinister asylum.

Francis provided the following statement: “Bringing Session 9 into a literary form has been a huge honor for me. Brad’s movie is a personal favorite since I sat in the cinema watching it back in ‘01, and I relished being able to expand on its themes and explore the horrors within. My novelization is not only a tribute to the Brad’s amazing creation, but also an invitation to revisit the fear that it first inspired in audiences.

Session 9: The Official Novelization will be available through all major bookstores and online platforms as an eBook, trade paperback, and hardcover, with an audiobook release expected to come along at the end of the year. There will also be a special Mass Market Paperback edition for retro novelization collectors! More information can be found at session9book.com.

Quadrant The Joe Bob Briggs Screening

Earlier this year, Full Moon founder Charles Band announced that his company was launching a new production label called Pulp Noir, which will focus on “edgier, weirder, darker horror and dark fantasy films.” They also set up a Patreon account where fans can subscribe and show their support for the company while getting a behind-the-scenes look at the making of these films. The first movie in the Pulp Noir line, a female serial killer story called Quadrant, wrapped production a while back and Full Moon has announced that the movie will be getting Blu-ray, DVD, limited edition VHS, and streaming release (on Amazon Prime, Full Moon Features, and Tubi, among others) on August 23rd! But before we reach that date, Full Moon will be releasing a special called Quadrant: The Joe Bob Briggs Screening on August 22nd!

The announcement lets us know, “Full Moon Features will be EXCLUSIVELY premiering a very special QUADRANT special feature on Thursday, August 22nd. In QUADRANT: THE JOE BOB BRIGGS SCREENING, iconic horror host Joe Bob Briggs shows up at Charlie and Robin Sydney’s Hollywood home with Darcy and some VERY lucky guests to screen QUADRANT in Charlie’s home theatre for the very first time! And then, Charlie and Joe Bob sit down together for an intimate chat on the making of this, Charlie’s 400th film! You won’t want to miss it! It’s the perfect warm up for our multi-platform QUADRANT premiere the following day!

Directed by BandQuadrant was written by C. Courtney Joyner and is described as being an unholy blend of steampunk terror and sci-fi slasher, with a female serial killer using the titular VR device to stalk her prey and channel the legacy of Jack the Ripper, and another heroic woman entering the ether-verse to bring her down!

Promotional art features a more in-depth synopsis: Developed by scientists Harry and Meg, the Quadrant helmet allows your mind to transport you into a world where all your phobias and nightmares are real, while also granting you the strength to defeat them, liberating you from their control forever. But the Quadrant experiment is about to go terribly wrong. When Erin, a young girl who’s obsessed with Jack the Ripper, uses the device to actually become the Ripper, she unleashes a reign of terror, first in her mind in an AI version of old London created by the Quadrant, and then in reality, where she now stalks the contemporary city streets, seeking out victims for her blade. The only way to stop this savage new Ripper is for an even more vicious killer to enter the artificial Quadrant-verse and bring her down. What ensues is a brutal, bloody battle, murderer against murderer, both in this world and the surreal, dangerous, synthetic world of Quadrant!

Quadrant stars Shannon Helene Barnes, Emma Reinagel, and Christian Carrigan.

I am a big fan of both Full Moon and Joe Bob Briggs (the host of Shudder’s The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs), so I will definitely be watching Quadrant: The Joe Bob Briggs Screening. Will you? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Michael Keaton’s renaissance after movies like Birdman and Spotlight has given the actor the opportunity to revisit his most beloved roles. He would don the cape and cowl once again as Batman for the infamous The Flash and the unreleased Batgirl. This fall, he’ll be returning as the unhinged ghost with the most as Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which reunites him with Tim Burton. And while this isn’t exactly Mr. Mom 2, Keaton once again takes on parenting duties single-handedly in the new trailer for Goodrich from Ketchup Entertainment.

Goodrich stars Keaton along with Mila Kunis, Carmen Ejogo, Michael Urie, Kevin Pollak, Viven Lyra Blair, Nico Haraga, Danny Deferrari with Lauren Benanti and his former Multiplicity co-star, Andie MacDowell.

The official synopsis reads,
“Andy Goodrich’s (Michael Keaton) life is upended when his wife and mother of their nine-year-old twins enters a 90-day rehab program, leaving him on his own with their young kids. Thrust into the world of modern parenthood, Goodrich leans on his daughter from his first marriage, Grace (Mila Kunis), as he ultimately evolves into the father Grace never had.”

Hallie Meyers-Shyer of the film Home Again has taken on the writing and directing duties. It is now being reported that C2 Motion Picture Group’s Jason Cloth and David Caplan financed and produced the film. They will be joined in association with Stay Gold Features with Daniela Taplin Lundberg joining the producing duties along with Kevin Mann. Amy Pascal, from Sony, is set to executive produce alongside Keaton himself. The film is executive produced by Michael Keaton, Amy Pascal and Mila Kunis.

Meyers-Shyer says of the film, “Goodrich is an homage to the films of the 70’s and 80’s that brilliantly melded comedy with drama, films directed by greats like Mike Nichols and James L. Brooks. I wrote this film for the incomparable Michael Keaton, and I can’t wait for audiences to see Michael back in the genre where we all fell in love with him.”
