How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?” When a beautiful stranger (Carrie Ann Moss) leads computer hacker Neo (Keanu Reeves) to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth–the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence. Neo joins legendary and dangerous rebel warrior Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne) in the battle to destroy the illusion of enslaving humanity.

The Simpsons, Disney+

D’oh! Or is it dough…? Whatever it is that makes The Simpsons run continues to keep the town of Springfield bustling, as the long-running animated series will make use of its Disney+ showcase in a huge way, with special events that will celebrate holidays with a twist.

As per Disney, season 35 of The Simpsons will hit Disney+ on October 2nd, having concluded in May. But the real get here is that a selection of Christmas episodes — as well as a special Halloween short — will be headed to the streaming service in the coming months as well. As for the Christmas additions, we’ll get “The Past and the Furious,” “Yellow Planet” and “O C’mon All Ye Faithful”, designated as a two-parter. This double episode is set to be unwrapped on December 17th, which will perfectly coincide with the very first episode of The Simpsons, “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”, which found Bart getting a tattoo, Homer playing mall Santa and, most importantly, the family taking in Santa’s Little Helper.

Since 2021, Disney+ has offered a wealth of exclusive Simpsons content, sometimes tying into other House of Mouse properties like Star Wars and Marvel. Prior to this takeover, the 2012 short The Longest Daycare earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film.

As for the future of The Simpsons, certainly, we’ll be getting even more exclusive Disney+ content. But in the meantime, the eye is really on that 1,000-episode mark, which is possible to hit in season 46 if the show sticks to a 22-episode/season pace. So maybe we don’t need another movie and the quality of the beloved series is well past its prime, but seeing something that we all grew up with hitting 1,000 episodes would be far from being the Worst. Thing. Ever.

Simpsons purists have had a tough relationship with its Disney partnership. Whether it was the aspect ratio debacle that the studio blatantly ignored for far too long or omitting “Stark Raving Dad” entirely due to the Michael Jackson link (still a dumb, censorship-serving move) or forcing lame IP crossovers, there have been plenty for fans to gripe about.

What do you think of Disney+’s upcoming exclusive Simpsons content? Is it cromulent enough for you?

Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Mike Mignola

A new live-action vision of Hellboy will be coming to our screens soon, a franchise reboot called Hellboy: The Crooked Man that has been directed by Crank‘s Brian Taylor from a screenplay by Chris Golden and Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola. We saw a new trailer for the film during the San Diego Comic-Con, and while we’re still waiting to hear of a release date, Taylor took a moment to tell the folks at GamesRadar+ that he approached this film the same way he would approach a Stephen King adaptation.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man will see Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man. In the comic, The Crooked Man was an eighteenth-century miser and war profiteer named Jeremiah Witkins who was hanged for his crimes yet returned from Hell as the region’s resident Devil. The film has been rated R for some violent content, language and nudity.

Hellboy is played this time around by Jack Kesy, who played Black Tom Cassidy in Deadpool 2. Kesy is joined in the cast by Jefferson White of Yellowstone as Tom Ferrell and Adeline Rudolph of the Netflix Resident Evil series as Bobbie Jo Song. According Hellboy.Fandom, Tom Ferrell is a character from the comic books who “was born around 1923 in the Appalachian mountains near the Hurricane (an area locals try to avoid) to a mother we know little of and his father, Charles E. Ferrel, who had a habit of drinking in the back woods. His early misadventures with witchcraft led to a self-imposed exodus.” Tales from the Collection adds that the story will introduce parapsychologist Bobbie Jo Song, who is tasked with delivering a spider to the BPRD but must seek Hellboy’s help when things go awry. Together, they travel to Appalachia to take on the Crooked Man, who has been sent back to Earth to collect souls for the devil.

Millennium Media producer Les Weldon told us this is “a true, dark, DARK, in the style of the comic book take on it. There’s no gloss that any of the other films had. There’s a methodical pace and a real creepiness to it.

While talking to GamesRadar+, Taylor agreed, “It’s a horror story, it’s a horror film – it’s very simple. I took to this like, ‘This is an adaptation. I’m adapting the story the way I would adapt a Stephen King story, it’s all there in the texts. I’m just gonna execute it with as much love and care as we can.’ I think fans of the original comic book are gonna love this. I know already like there’s people online who’ve seen the teasers and things like that and they’re like, ‘This is the comic.’ That’s what we want.

Are you looking forward to Hellboy: The Crooked Man? Are you glad to hear that Brian Taylor considers this to be a horror film, and that he took the “Stephen King adaptation” sort of approach? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Wolfs, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino

While Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman enjoy the spotlight after the titanic success of Deadpool & Wolverine, another pair of Hollywood BFFs, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, enjoy a charming life. Surrounded by beautiful people, the most gorgeous vistas on the planet, and many of the finest luxuries life offers, it’s tough to endure all that pampering and praise (he wrote with sarcasm). It’s not like they didn’t work for it. You only rise to the top of the Hollywood crop by contributing a few bangers to the industry, and you certainly only get to where these two gentlemen are if you pay a few dues. How did their lives become this way? Is their bromance the stuff of legend? What’s up with Clooney having choice words for Quentin Tarantino? Let’s find out.

Speaking with GQ at the Château Miraval winery, Clooney reveals why he’s limited his on-screen appearances recently, preferring to stay behind the camera or be the money man. He’s got a project with Noah Baumbach on the way and, of course, Wolfs with his buddy Brad Pitt. When asked why he’s returning to acting after becoming so selective, Clooney answered:

“The main reason is that it is a year on the road to direct, and now my kids are of a certain age. We’re not going to uproot our kids out of school and run around. Before that, they could just come with us and we would all go. But that’s different now. So now I’m going to just probably focus on other things, like acting.”

Meanwhile, Brad Pitt says he’s trying to act less, limiting his time in front of cameras to enjoy life’s finer, more important things. When asked to detail his strategy, Pitt said:

“Well, now I’m doing one movie in a year and a half. [Laughter.] No, I’m still kind of on the same trajectory. I feel the same. I’m really just trying to enjoy the people that I love around me and just living. [He gestures out at the vineyard.] I don’t know how to not sound cheesy about it, but just the air is fresh and the grass is green and I’ve just kind of become that guy a little bit.”

Regarding the duo’s upcoming Jon Watts-directed thriller Wolfs, Clooney says he’s happy to do the film while he and Pitt still have some gas left in the tank. The film highlights Clooney and Pitt’s whip-smart chemistry, a solution they’ve been mixing for nearly a quarter-century with the release of Ocean’s Eleven.

Eventually, the conversation steers toward Pitt and Clooney’s work with celebrated directors, including David Fincher and Questin Tarantino. While it’s clear that each director prefers to work with one over the other, Pitt can’t help but wonder what the hang-up is with Tarantino not tapping Clooney for more roles. Clooney has an idea and some choice words for his From Dusk Till Dawn co-star.

“Quentin said some shit about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him,” Clooney says. “He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about you, and somebody else, and then this guy goes, “Well, what about George?” He goes, he’s not a movie star. And then he literally said something like, “Name me a movie since the millennium.” And I was like, “Since the millennium? That’s kind of my whole fucking career.”

Pitt couldn’t help but laugh as Clooney continued to explain his position:

“So now I’m like, all right, dude, fuck off. I don’t mind giving him shit. He gave me shit. But no, look, we’re really lucky we got to work with these great directors. Director and screenplay is what keeps you alive. And I learned that after doing some really bad films. You can’t make a good film out of a bad script. You can’t do it. You can make a bad film out of a good script. You can fuck it up.”

Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) directed and wrote Wolfs, which centers on two lone-wolf fixers assigned to the same job. Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, and Poorna Jagannathan star alongside Clooney and Pitt.

Wolfs was originally slated to have a wide theatrical release before launching on Apple TV+, but it will now receive a limited theatrical release on September 20th before debuting on the streaming service on September 27th. The film is still slated to make its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, which runs from August 28th to September 7th.
