The emotional teaser trailer for the upcoming Netflix film Maria has been released. The trailer proudly displays the movie as an official selection in this year’s festival circuit, which includes the Venice Film Festival, the Telluride Film Festival, the New York International Film Festival and the BFI London Film Festival. The film stars Angelina Jolie as the titular character — Maria Callas. She is joined by Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Valeria Golino, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Haluk Bilginer in the cast.
The official synopsis reads, “Academy Award®-winner Angelina Jolie is Maria Callas, one of the most iconic performers of the 20th century in acclaimed director Pablo Larrain’s operatic MARIA. The film follows the American-Greek soprano as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye. MARIA reimagines the legendary soprano in her final days as the diva reckons with her identity and life.”
Pablo Larraín, director of Jackie and Spencer, helms the film from a script by writer Steven Knight. Larraín also produces the movie alongside Juan De Dios Larraín, Jonas Dornbach and Lorenzo Mieli.
Larraín tells Netflix Tudum about his excitement in taking on this project, “I’m excited to partner again with the Netflix team who care so passionately about movies. This film is my most personal work yet. It is a creative imagining and psychological portrait of Maria Callas who, after dedicating her life to performing for audiences around the world, decides finally to find her own voice, her own identity, and sing for herself. I’m deeply honored to tell this story and share it with audiences worldwide like Maria did with her life.”

Season 2 of the HBO series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us has been filming since February, aiming for a 2025 premiere – and while we’re still months away from 2025 and production is still underway, a trailer for the new batch of episodes has made its way online. The Last of Us season 2 trailer can be seen in the embed above!
The story of the The Last of Us video game is set years after a fungal plague wiped out much of humanity, transforming most into vicious zombie-like monsters, the story follows Joel, who’s living in a militarized quarantine zone. He has a close relationship with Tess, who operates in the black market of this community. Together, they’ve become known by the local criminal underworld for their ruthlessness. On a mission to reclaim their stolen guns, they run into the leader of the Fireflies, a resistance group, who tasks them with smuggling a young girl named Ellie out of the zone. This mission soon becomes much more than they were prepared for.
For the HBO series, Pedro Pascal plays Joel, who is “tormented by past trauma and failure. He must trek across a pandemic-ravaged America, all the while protecting a girl who represents the last hope of humanity”. He is joined in the cast by Bella Ramsey as Ellie, “an orphan who has never known anything but a ravaged planet and who struggles to balance her instinct for anger and defiance with her need for connection and belonging… as well as the newfound reality that she may be the key to saving the world”; Anna Torv as Tess, “a smuggler and hardened survivor in a post-pandemic world”; Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, “a former soldier who hasn’t lost his sense of idealism and hope for a better world”; Merle Dandridge as Marlene, “the head of the Fireflies, a resistance movement struggling for freedom against an oppressive military regime”; Nico Parker as Joel’s daughter Sarah; Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, “a rebel in a quarantine zone”; Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett as Bill and Frank, “two post-pandemic survivalists living alone in their own isolated town”; and Storm Reid as Ellie’s best friend Riley.
New season 2 cast members include Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction) as Isaac, “the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group, known in the video game as the Washington Liberation Front, who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy,” Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus) as Dina, a romantic love interest for the Ellie character; Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart and No One Will Save You) as Abby Anderson, a major character from the video game who is described as being “a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved”; Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick) as soldier named Manny, Ariela Barer (How To Blow Up a Pipeline) as young doctor Mel, Tati Gabrielle (You) as military medic Nora, Spencer Lord (Riverdale) as Owen, “a gentle soul trapped in a warrior’s body,” and Young Mazino of Beef as Jesse, “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at terrible cost.” (Jesse also happens to be Dina’s ex.) Schitt’s Creek Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara is also in there, in an unspecified role. Merced said Dever is “one of the most talented actors I’ve ever worked with.”

Director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus (read our review HERE), reached theatres last month, and now we have learned that movie is set to receive a digital release next month! Alien: Romulus will be available to watch in the comfort of your own home, on the likes of Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, as of October 15th. An image of the 4K steelbook can be seen at the bottom of this article.
It has been said that the story Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues crafted for Alien: Romulus is not directly connected to the other films in the Alien franchise (which isn’t exactly true), but it’s not ignoring any of the other entries, either. Alvarez has been clear about the fact that his story takes place within the established franchise continuity. In fact, it slots right in between the events of Alien and Aliens. It has the following official logline: The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
The cast includes Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), Isabela Merced (Madame Web), David Jonsson (Industry), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (The Batman), and Aileen Wu (Away from Home).
The film’s home video release will include the following bonus features (which may vary by product and retailer): Return to Horror: Crafting Alien: Romulus featurette, which has five chapters: The Director’s Vision – Discover how one of today’s greatest horror directors, Fede Alvarez, collaborated with master filmmaker Ridley Scott to craft a new, heart-pounding chapter in the Alien franchise. Creating the Story – Learn what inspired the story of Alien: Romulus and see the many easter eggs from previous Alien installments that you may have missed. Casting the Faces – Meet the stars of Alien: Romulus as they take us inside the hearts and minds of their characters. Explore the parallels between Rain and the iconic franchise heroine, Ripley, and learn how filmmakers brought back a face from the past. Constructing the World – Explore the massive, practical sets of Alien: Romulus that hearken back to the futuristic style established in the ’80s and get up close and personal with a hoard of practically built facehuggers, chestbursters, and xenomorphs. Inside the Xenomorph Showdown – Experience the film’s climactic zero-gravity sequence from every angle as filmmakers break down what it took to make the moment spectacular. From sets and performances, to wirework, stunts, and VFX, see how it all came together. / Alien: A Conversation – A special conversation with Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez for the Alien 45th Anniversary theatrical re-release. / Alternate / Extended Scenes – Check out scenes that didn’t make the final cut.

While Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens are considered to be two of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made, Alien 3 (watch it HERE) continues to divide audiences to this day, more than 30 years after it was first released. There are fans who hate it, there are fans who love it, and the film’s director doesn’t even like to talk about it. With the new episode of their new show Lance and Arrow at the Movies, Arrow in the Head founder John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek have decided to revisit Alien 3 and sit down for a debate: is this movie a gem or a cinematic disaster? You can hear what they had to say about it by watching the video embedded above.

Directed by David Fincher (making his feature debut) from a script credited to Walter Hill, David Giler, and Larry Ferguson – with Vincent Ward earning a story credit – Alien 3 has the following synopsis: Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the only survivor when she crash lands on Fiorina 161, a bleak wasteland inhabited by former inmates of the planet’s maximum security prison. Once again, Ripley must face skepticism and the alien as it hunts down the prisoners and guards. Without weapons or modern technology of any kind, Ripley leads the men into battle against the terrifying creature.
Sigourney Weaver was joined in the cast by Charles S. Dutton, Charles Dance, Brian Glover, Ralph Brown, Paul McGann, Danny Webb, Lance Henriksen, Pete Postlethwaite, Holt McCallany, Peter Guinness, Christopher Fairbank, Phil Davis, Vincenzo Nicoli, Leon Herbert, Niall Buggy, Hi Ching, Carl Chase, Clive Mantle, DeObia Oparei, and Paul Brennen, with Tom Woodruff Jr. performing inside the xenomorph costume.
