Sony is marking the 30th anniversary of PlayStation with a new lineup of limited-edition, PS1-inspired consoles and accessories and they look surprisingly good, especially for those of us who still have fond memories of listening to the disc spin in the original console while grinding through our favorite ‘90s RPG…
A rumor had been going around that Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope was being developed into a remake. And World of Reel is now confirming that the project is indeed happening and the film may be securing David Fincher to direct. Fincher was recently trying to develop a remake of another Alfred Hitchcock classic, Strangers on a Train, which was said to be eyeing Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck to star. However, now it seems as though Fincher is instead opting to remake Rope as, according to Netflix’s Kasey Moore, the film is moving forward. Denzel Washington and/or Charlize Theron may be up for roles in the film.
The plot synopsis for the Alfred Hitchcock original reads, “Just before hosting a dinner party, Philip Morgan (Farley Granger) and Brandon Shaw (John Dall) strangle a mutual friend to death with a piece of rope, purely as a Nietzsche-inspired philosophical exercise. Hiding the body in a chest upon which they then arrange a buffet dinner, the pair welcome their guests, including the victim’s oblivious fiancée (Joan Chandler) and the college professor (James Stewart) whose lectures inadvertently inspired the killing.”
Meanwhile, Netflix is extremely interested in hiring David Fincher to be heavily involved with an English-language spin-off, tentatively titled Squid Game: America. While there hasn’t been confirmation whether Squid Game: America will be a closely tied spin-off, it is expected the project will more likely be part of the original Squid Game world rather than an out-and-out remake. According to rumor podcast TheInSneider, “Netflix is courting DAVID FINCHER to produce and direct an American take on SQUID GAME. No idea whether he’s engaging, but they want him to tackle this project BADLY, per multiple sources.” It is also being said that Dennis Kelly, a British writer and producer, who is best known for stage plays Debris and Utopia and movies like Matilda the Musical and Black Sea, will be set to write the project.
What’s on Netflix had conveyed that Fincher has at least four projects in development at Netflix, which includes Squid Game: America. There is also his Robert Towne-penned Chinatown prequel, a project titled Bitterroot, and “an untitled crime thriller.” The untitled crime thriller is believed to be the yet-to-be-announced Rope remake.

The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers‘ remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it HERE) is set to reach theatres on Wednesday, December 25th – and today, a poster for the film has arrived online. It features the vampire character Count Orlok, but it doesn’t want to give too much away about him just yet, keeping him shrouded in darkness. You can take a look at the poster at the bottom of this article.
An unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the original Nosferatu has the following synopsis: In this highly influential silent horror film, the mysterious Count Orlok (Max Schreck) summons Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. The eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house near Hutter and his wife, Ellen (Greta Schroeder). After Orlok reveals his vampire nature, Hutter struggles to escape the castle, knowing that Ellen is in grave danger. Meanwhile Orlok’s servant, Knock (Alexander Granach), prepares for his master to arrive at his new home.
Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.
The film stars Bill Skarsgard (It) as the title character, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man: No Way Home) as crazy vampire hunter Von Franz, Lily-Rose Depp (The Idol) as Ellen Hutter and Nicholas Hoult (Renfield) as her husband Thomas – a role Skarsgard was going to play at one point. Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train) is in there as Thomas’s friend Friedrich Harding, with Emma Corrin (The Crown) as Friedrich’s wife Anna, Ralph Ineson (The Witch) as Von Franz’s cohort Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, and Simon McBurney (The Conjuring 2) in an unspecified role. Skarsgard has said that playing Nosferatu / Count Orlok was like “conjuring pure evil. It took a while for me to shake off the demon that had been conjured inside of me. … I do not think people are gonna recognize me in it.“

Writer/director Damien Leone had a budget of around $55,000 to work with on his breakout horror film Terrifier, and a budget of “a little over” $250,000 for Terrifier 2, which was a massive hit when it was released in 2022, earning $15.1 million at the box office. Since the second film did so well, Terrifier 3 has a substantially higher budget. A “couple million” is going into this one, and we’re going to get the chance to see how that translates to the screen when the film receives a theatrical release on October 11th. With that date right around the corner, our friends at Bloody Disgusting have unveiled six new posters from the film, all of which were designed by Creepy Duck. You can check them out at the bottom of this article.
Terrifier 3 has the following synopsis: Art the Clown is set to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve. Here’s some more information: After surviving Art the Clown’s Halloween massacre, Sienna and her brother are struggling to rebuild their shattered lives. As the holiday season approaches, they try to embrace the Christmas spirit and leave the horrors of the past behind. But just when they think they’re safe, Art the Clown returns, determined to turn their holiday cheer into a new nightmare. The festive season quickly unravels as Art unleashes his twisted brand of terror, proving that no holiday is safe.
Speaking with USA Today, Leone revealed that the new sequel takes place five years after the events of Terrifier 2.
David Howard Thornton reprises the role of Art the Clown, a character who was first introduced in Leone’s 2013 anthology All Hallows’ Eve (although Thornton didn’t start playing him until Terrifier). Also in the cast are Lauren LaVera, who’s back as Terrifier 2 heroine Sienna; Elliot Fullam returns as Sienna’s brother Jonathan, Samantha Scaffidi is returning as Terrifier and Terrifier 2 character Victoria Heyes, and Daniel Roebuck, who has been cast in the role of Santa Claus. FX legend Tom Savini will also be showing up, in an unspecified role. The same goes for Jon Abrahams, Antonella Rose, Krsy Fox, and legendary character actor Clint Howard. Chris Jericho, who had a cameo in Terrifier 2, is back in Terrifier 3 – but he has let everyone know that his appearance in the film won’t last very long.

The roaring has begun yet again for Lioness, the Paramoint+ thriller from one of the current kings of television, Taylor Sheridan. Today, Paramount+ released the trailer for season 2 of Lioness, which will bit the streaming service on October 27th.
Lioness — which you may have also seen as Special Ops: Lioness – had a wildly successful debut season last year, proving to have Paramount+’s most-watched premiere at that time. With that — and the massive fanbase Sheridan has amassed — no doubt there is hype for season two. Heck, the follow-up season was confirmed before the first even premiered, just to give an idea of how much stake Paramount has in Sheridan.
As per Paramount+: “In season two, as the CIA’s fight against terror moves closer to home, Joe (Zoe Saldaña), Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman), and Byron (Michael Kelly) enlist a new Lioness operative to infiltrate a previously unknown threat. With pressure mounting from all sides, Joe is forced to confront the profound personal sacrifices she has made as the leader of the Lioness program.” The cast also features Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Thad Luckinbill and Hannah Love Lanier.
Like the debut season, season two of Lioness will consist of eight episodes.
Our own Alex Maidy praised Lioness last year in an 8/10 review, concluding it with, “Few series have hooked me after one episode the way Special Ops: Lioness has and I cannot wait to see more.”
Outside of Lioness, Taylor Sheridan of course is keeping extremely busy, as he not only has his ever-expanding Yellowstone saga but also Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King, both of which have proven hits with and solidified his relationship with Paramount+. Season three of Mayor of Kingstown wrapped last month, while season two of Tulsa King debuted just this week and is set to conclude in mid-November. As for Yellowstone, the final episodes are set to air beginning on November 10th.

As Jason Reitman’s film about the chaotic first episode of Saturday Night Live premieres this year, the show itself returns for its 50th season. There may likely be some meta-humor displayed to coincide with the release of the film, Saturday Night, as it celebrates its origins and is getting early positive buzz. In his review, our EIC, Chris Bumbray stated, “For a movie that’s so short, Saturday Night has a lot to unpack in it, as there’s just so much going on at every second. It’s a somewhat stressful movie to watch, but its frenzied energy makes it the perfect big-screen version of the show, and a movie I’m sure most SNL players, both past and present, will praise as being pretty accurate. It’s one of Reitman’s best movies.”
The NBC sketch comedy institution has recently announced its slate of hosts this season, per Variety. As Beetlejuice Beetlejuice becomes an early hit for the spooky season, Michael Keaton has been tapped to host the show for the fourth time. Keaton first hosted back in 1982 and would be back in 1992, presumably to promote Batman Returns. Then, Keaton’s resurgence in the past few years got to bring him back to host in 2015. This year, Keaton’s appearance capitalizes on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, while he also has a new film, Goodrich, which is set for release on October 18. Keaton’s musical guest will be Billie Eilish as she promotes her 2024 album Hit Me Hard and Soft.
Jean Smart is set to open the season on September 28 with musical guest Jelly Roll. Other hosts this year will include Ariana Grande, who will have Stevie Nicks as her musical guest. Comedian Nate Bargatze will be hosting the show amid his fall comedy tour, the “Be Funny Tour,” with Coldplay providing the musical segments. And John Mulaney is also set to return and host this November as his musical guest is Chappell Roan. This will be Mulaney’s sixth time hosting after serving as a writer on the show. He will be promoting his newly opening Broadway play, All In: Comedy About Love, which is due to start on December 11.
