The new Sonic Lego sets were one of the many announcements made during this year’s Sonic Central stream. Sega showed off a lot in that presentation, so these sets went under the radar compared to things like the DC Comics collaboration and new looks at games like Sonic X Shadow Generations. But did y’all see these new…
Back in August of 2021, Skyline franchise writer Liam O’Donnell announced that he had just finished writing the script for the fourth entry in the alien invasion Skyline series. At that time, he said he had “no idea how likely this is to get made,” but the project – which was once being called Skyline Radial but has ended up with the title Skyline: Warpath – has since made its way into production. Back in January, the movie secured a US distribution deal with XYZ Films, and now Variety reports that it’s set to receive UK and Irish distribution through Signature Entertainment.
Written and directed by O’Donnell, Skyline: Warpath is coming our way from Palisades Park Pictures. Set within the Skyline universe and two years after the events of Beyond Skyline, the film follows Sua as he leads The Resistance against the invading aliens. When he discovers the powerful alien Radial Gauntlet, he must deal with both the corrupt Eric and the army of alien invaders.
Scott Adkins (John Wick: Chapter 4) and Iko Uwais (The Raid) star alongside Yayan Ruhian (Boy Kills World) and Charlotte Vega (Wrong Turn).
Matthew E. Chausse and Evangelo Kioussis produced the film, with Peter Choi, Arvin Sutedja, Danny R. Carmona, and Victor Presinal serving as executive producers. Ashland Hill Media Finance provided financing, and production took place in Indonesia earlier this year.
The Signature Entertainment distribution deal was negotiated between Signature’s acquisitions manager Begüm Kayacan Parodi and Palisades’ co-founder and CEO Tamara Birkemoe. Parodi provided the following statement: “We’re always looking for quality commercial sci-fi at Signature, and after our success with Beyond Skyline, we’re thrilled to partner with Liam O’Donnell once more to bring the latest instalment in the expansive Skyline franchise to the UK and Ireland next year. We’re sure audiences will love seeing Iko Uwais face off not just against The Harvesters, but a worthy adversary in the form of the U.K.’s own martial arts master, Scott Adkins.“
Palisades’ Kyle Bellinger, vice president of distribution & marketing, added: “We are thrilled to have Signature on board to bring Skyline: Warpath to fans and moviegoers. Liam and the team have created another high-octane entry to this popular franchise, complete with all the hard-hitting sci-fi action from martial arts icons, Iko Uwais and Scott Adkins.“

When writer/director Natalie Erika James’ feature debut, the psychological horror drama Relic, was about to have its premiere, we heard that James was hoping to make a folk horror movie called Drum Wave, which would be about a pianist who goes to a remote island in Japan where she is forced to confront motherhood issues as the town holds its annual fertility festival. Drum Wave hasn’t made it into production yet, but James did direct the Rosemary’s Baby prequel Apartment 7A in the meantime – and during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she revealed that she’ll soon be heading into production on a psychological horror film called Saccharine!
During the interview, which was first posted four days ago, James said she would begin shooting her next movie in six weeks. When asked for more information on the upcoming project, she replied, “I’m doing another psychological horror, and this one’s called Saccharine. It’s about a woman who eats human ash to lose weight, and she becomes haunted by the ghost of the person she’s eating. So it has a bit of an absurd bent to it, but I’m very excited and we’re shooting here in Melbourne.” This sounds quite interesting and unique to me; I’ve never heard of another story about a person being haunted by someone whose ashes they consumed.
Inspired by James’ own experience when her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Relic told the following story: When octogenarian Edna inexplicably vanishes, her daughter Kay and granddaughter Sam rush to their family’s decaying country home and find clues of her increasing dementia scattered around the house in her absence. After Edna returns just as mysteriously as she disappeared, Kay’s concern that her mother seems unwilling or unable to say where she’s been clashes with Sam’s unabashed enthusiasm to have her grandma back. However, as Edna’s behavior turns increasingly volatile, both begin to sense that an insidious presence in the house might be taking control of her.
Her Rosemary’s Baby prequel Apartment 7A has the following synopsis: When Terry Gionoffrio, a struggling, young dancer, suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected, older couple takes her into their home at a luxurious apartment building, the Bramford. Set in 1965 New York City, the film tells the story prior to the legendary horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, exploring what happened in the apartment before Rosemary moved in.

With all these musical biopics being released, many are questioning how many of these life stories can be told in a more refreshing way without falling into the traps that Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story parodied. Well, Robbie Williams and the creatives behind Better Man have attempted a slightly different approach. The film inspired by Williams’ life has him being portrayed by a CGI chimpanzee. Our own Chris Bumbray loved the movie at TIFF, saying in his review, “The craziest thing about Better Man isn’t the fact that Robbie Williams is presented as a CGI chimpanzee but rather that this risky conceit works quite well. […] While I went into Better Man with a raised eyebrow, wary of the chimpanzee aspect, to my delight, it worked wonderfully. As far as big-screen biopics go, this is a pretty deliriously entertaining one, and I had a blast watching it. It’s definitely one to keep an eye out for.”
Paramount has now released the trailer for Better Man coupled with a featurette. The official synopsis reads, “Better Man is based on the true story of the meteoric rise, dramatic fall, and remarkable resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams, one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Under the visionary direction of Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman), the film is uniquely told from Robbie’s perspective, capturing his signature wit and indomitable spirit. It follows Robbie’s journey from childhood, to being the youngest member of chart-topping boyband Take That, through to his unparalleled achievements as a record-breaking solo artist – all the while confronting the challenges that stratospheric fame and success can bring.”
The film stars Robbie Williams, Jonno Davies, Steve Pemberton, Damon Herriman, Raechelle Banno, Alison Steadman, Kate Mulvaney, Frazer Hadfield, Tom Budge and Anthony Hayes.
Michael Gracey directs from a screenplay he wrote with Simon Gleeson and Oliver Cole. The movie is produced by Paul Currie, Michael Gracey, Coco Xiaolu Ma, Jules Daly and Craig McMahon. And the executive producers on board include Zhe Chen, Robbie Williams, Markus Barmettler, Philip Lee, Li-Wei Chu, Michael Loney, Thorsten Schumacher,Lars Sylvest, Mark Williams, Gregory Jankilevitsch, Klaudia Smieja, David Ravel, Domenic Benvenuto, Gianni Benvenuto, Zoran Stojkovic, Faris Dedic, David Conley, Daniel Fluri, Adrian Grabe, Andres Kernen and Dean Hood.
The film will swing into select theaters on December 25 and then go nationwide on January 17, 2025.
Terrifier cast member Michael Leavy has directed a new horror film called Stream – and not only has he brought Terrifier and Terrifier 2 director Damien Leone on board to handle the special effects, but he also packed the cast with genre icons. Here’s a sample of the Stream cast list: Tony Todd (the original Candyman himself), Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator), Danielle Harris (Halloween 4), Bill Moseley (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), Dee Wallace (The Howling), Mark Holton (Leprechaun), Daniel Roebuck (Final Destination), Dave Sheridan (The Devil’s Rejects), Terry Alexander (Day of the Dead), David Howard Thornton (Terrifier), Tim Reid (Stephen King’s It), Charles Edwin Powell (Exorcist III), Bob Adrian (The Conjuring 2), Sydney Malakeh (Cheer Camp Killer), Wesley Holloway (Terrifier 2), Jadon Cal (Megaboa), and Linden Porco (Leprechaun Returns). Iconic Events Releasing gave the film a theatrical release in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico at the end of August (you can read our review at THIS LINK), and now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have confirmed that Stream will be receiving a digital release before Halloween! The movie will be available to watch on Fandango at Home, iTunes, and Apple TV as of October 15th.
Leavy directed the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jason Leavy, Steven Della Salla, and Robert Privitera. Here’s the synopsis: When Roy and Elaine Keenan realize their family is drifting apart, they decide that something needs to be done. Roy forces his work to take a back seat and they seize the opportunity to recreate a vacation from their past. A peaceful stay in a quaint hotel is just what they need, however that is not what is in store for them. With four deranged murderers patrolling the seemingly mundane halls, the odds are definitely not in the Keenan family’s favor. Roy must fight for his life and those of his family as their simple weekend getaway truly turns into a vacation to die for. The Keenan family consists of characters played by Charles Edwin Powell, Danielle Harris, Sydney Malakeh, and Wesley Holloway.
Iconic Events Releasing will also be giving Terrifier 3 a theatrical release. The date for that one is October 11th. Leavy provided the following statement: “We are excited to give our loyal fans the ultimate experience! After they see Terrifier 3 in theaters, they now have the chance to fill that gore bug and get more from our team and Damien Leone in seeing Stream from the comfort of their own home – before going to see Terrifier 3 again, of course.“

Last year, we heard that Spyder Dobrofsky – who worked on the scripts for such flicks as The Housewives of the North Pole and One Christmas Wish, as well as Mom’s Day Away, and made his feature directorial debut with the mystery thriller Spiral – was making a holiday horror movie called Down Below and had assembled a solid cast for the project: the legendary Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) stars alongside Bai Ling (The Crow), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), and Doug Jones, who is best known for his creature (or heavily made up) performances in films like The Shape of Water, Hellboy, and Hocus Pocus. Now, Down Below has been sent out into the world, as it was given a digital release this week and is available to rent or purchase on Amazon’s Prime Video at THIS LINK.
Down Below tells the following story: On the 20th anniversary of the gruesome Christmas Eve murders at St. Agnes Church, a demonic preacher from the past returns to haunt that same town’s residents. Among them is Salem, a young man whose once-happy life is being torn from him piece by piece, as he’s framed for an unspeakable crime. The only one who believes his innocence is a broken-hearted call-girl, who has nightmares of her own. Together and apart, they’re forced to face their own demons as well as a real one, who goes by the name of Mr. Monday.
Roberts’ character is “an intelligent police psychologist, who’s having a tough time with his current patient, a cop recently suspended for an act of violence on a civilian.” According to the film’s IMDb page, Hutch Dano (As Certain as Death), David Steen (Django Unchained), Christopher Livingston (Mindhunter), Anna Greene (Play It Cool), Brittany Carel (Keeping Up with the Joneses), Jaclyn Albergoni (Home and Away), Danny Hackin (Natasha), and newcomers William Troy Ford and Didi Alaoui are also in the cast.
Down Below was produced by Dash Dobrofsky, who also produced Spyder’s Spiral and had an acting role in the film. In addition to the projects mentioned in the first paragraph, Spyder Dobrofsky also wrote the 2022 Tubi horror film Teardrop, which was directed by I Spit on Your Grave remake director Steven R. Monroe.

The trailer for Bong Joon-ho’s quirky dark comedy, Mickey 17, dropped a couple of weeks ago and people have already taken to Robert Pattinson‘s unique performance coupled with Bong’s direction. Mickey 17 was originally supposed to be released back in March, but it wound up being taken off the schedule entirely before making the shift to 2025. Some have said that the reason for the delay is that the studio won’t let Bong Joon-ho release his director’s cut but instead want to release a “more accessible” version of the movie.
Now that the film finally has its release date set in place, the MPA Classification and Rating Administration has given Mickey 17 an R-rating “for violent content, language throughout, sexual content and drug material.” With the nature of the film containing multiple deaths of the main character, it’s natural to assume Bong gets to play around Groundhog Day-style with a bevy of scenarios that kill off his “expendable” lead.
The official synopsis for Mickey 17 reads: “From the Academy Award-winning writer/director of Parasite, Bong Joon Ho, comes his next groundbreaking cinematic experience, Mickey 17. The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living.“
In addition to Pattinson as the various Mickeys, the film also stars Steve Yeun, Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, and Naomi Ackie. It is based on the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, with Bong Joon-ho writing the script and directing. This sci-fi thriller is the first film Bong has made since his 2019 film Parasite won Best Picture and he won the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay Academy Awards. It’s based on a novel by Edward Ashton that was called Mickey7, but they changed the number for the title of the adaptation.
Bong wrote, directed, and produced Mickey 17 for his production company Offscreen, along with Kate Street Picture Company’s Dooho Choi and Plan B’s Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, part of the latter’s overall deal with Warner Bros.
Mickey 17 is set to hit theaters on January 31, 2025.
With Joker: Folie à Deux just days away from its release but reviews skewing so-so, the hype has no doubt fizzled. And while promotion has still been heavy and a lot of us are still looking forward to Lady Gaga’s interpretation of Haley Quinn, this sequel will be the last we get of both the Joker and his flame, at least as told by Todd Phillips.
Todd Phillips has confirmed yet again that the Joker sequel will indeed be his last go in that realm. Added to this, he says that even if Harley Quinn is a hit with fans, he won’t be doing a spinoff. “It’s not really where this movie is headed for me. I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films.” This is a complete double-down of previous comments Phillips made, telling Variety, “It was fun to play in this sort of sandbox for two movies, but I think we’ve said what we wanted to say in this world.”
So, what has Phillips said? With the first Joker, themes of mental instability, social isolation, the health care system, and the dangers of a comforting cult ran rampant. While some criticized the film that it equated violence with mental illness and gave some – that is, those who don’t quite understand what’s going on on the screen – a new anti-hero to worship, the film did insanely well at both the box office and the 92nd Academy Awards, taking in more than $1 billion worldwide and earning 11 nominations, winning for Hildur Guðnadótti’s score and Joaquin Phoenix’s lead performance.
As for what the Joker sequel has in store, we’ll have to wait until October 4th to fully know and give our final verdict. While some of the air has been removed from the hype balloon, the musical twist still remains enticing and Lady Gaga has proven to be capable of some truly remarkable performances.
