Cleaner, Quiver Distribution, Daisy Ridley, Clive Owen

Just because someone cleans windows for a living doesn’t mean they can’t kick your ass when it counts. Daisy Ridley is ready to set her squeegee aside in favor of whichever weapon gets the job done in Cleaner, an action-packed thriller from director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Goldeneye, Edge of Darkness). Quiver Distribution announced today that it has acquired North American rights to the Anton and Qwerty Films production Cleaner, set in, around, and on the side of one of the UK’s tallest buildings. Quiver will release the film in theaters on February 21, 2025.

Star Wars icon Daisy Ridley stars in Cleaner, based on a story she developed, alongside Clive Owen (Children of Men, Inside Man), who recently led the FX mini-series A Murder at the End of the World. The film takes Ridley and Owen into the dark heart of danger while innocent lives hang in the balance.

Here’s the official synopsis for Cleaner:

“Cleaner is set in present-day London. A group of radical activists, led by Clive Owen, take over an energy company’s annual gala, seizing 300 hostages in order to expose the corruption of the hosts. Their just cause is hijacked by an extremist within their ranks, who is ready to murder everyone in the building to send his anarchic message to the world. It falls to an ex-soldier turned window cleaner, played by Daisy Ridley, suspended 50 stories up on the outside of the building, to save those trapped inside.”

Cleaner is a nail-biting thriller, unique and original in both its characters and its setting,” said Martin Campbell. “Much of the film takes place on the side of One Canada Square – hundreds of feet up in the air – and I want the audience to be up there with Joey in a stomach churning, vertiginous experience.”

Daisy Ridley and Clive Owen sound like a winning combination for ass-kickery, intense stand-offs, and unpredictable outcomes to a life-threatening scenario. With Martin Campbell’s eye for action and sharp writing in play, Cleaner could become one of 2025’s most talked about action movies.

It’s about damn time! One of my favorite Netflix titles from 2022, The Recruit, is finally returning for a second season, and today’s first look at new episodes of the action-packed espionage thriller is proof! The Recruit Season 2 finds the show’s star and executive producer, Noah Centineo, returning, and if you thought he was in over his head last time, you haven’t seen anything yet!

Speaking with Tudum.com, The Recruit creator, showrunner, and executive producer Alexi Hawley teased the events of Season 2, saying, “Owen rolls into this season basically screwed. Owen knows that if he does not walk away with a win this season, his career is going to be over. He might go to prison. Depending on what people are into, they can show up this season for the big, flashy, splashy action stuff, but they can also be on a journey with this guy who’s just trying to fix something that he broke.”

Echoing Hawley’s concerns for Owen’s fate, Noah Centineo told Tudum, “Owen’s headspace is complete chaos. He has just witnessed Max — the former CIA asset whom he almost died multiple times trying to protect — get shot by her daughter Nichka. Owen is wondering how in the hell he is going to survive the next few seconds of his life.”

The first season of The Recruit ended with a hell of a cliffhanger, and I’ve been waiting to find out what happens to Owen ever since. He’s more skilled than he looks, but to say he was in over his head is an understatement.

Here’s the official logline for The Recruit Season 2 courtesy of Netflix:

“Season Two of The Recruit finds CIA Lawyer, Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo), pulled into a life-threatening espionage situation in South Korea, only to realize that the bigger threat just might be coming from inside the Agency.”

Season regulars Noah Centineo, Teo Yoo, Aarti Mann, Colton Dunn, Fivel Stewart, Kristian Bruun, Kaylah Zander, Maddie Hasson, Angel Parker, and Vondie Curtis-Hall return for The Recruit Season 2. Joining them are additional key cast members Young-Ah Kim, Felix Solis, James Purefoy, Do Hyun Shin, Sanghee Lee, Omar Maskati, Brooke Smith, Devika Bhise, Alana Hawley Purvis, Daniel Quincy Annoh, Jesse Collin and Nathan Fillion.

Director Guillermo del Toro’s noir thriller / Best Picture nominee Nightmare Alley (watch it HERE) was released into the world in December of 2021, and a black and white version of the film, called Nightmare Alley: Vision in Darkness and Light, was released soon after. Both the color and b&w versions of the film had a running time of 150 minutes – but now, del Toro has revealed that he’s working on an extended cut of the black and white version!

Del Toro posted on Bluesky, “I am remastering the B&W Nightmare Alley w an extended cut. Stay tuned.” We definitely will stay tuned to find out more information.

Del Toro had this to say about the black and white version of Nightmare Alley when it was first released: “Although we shot Nightmare Alley in color, we lit it as if it were black and white. You can see exactly the same level of design, and we wanted to give viewers this special vantage as a take of the classic noir genre that the film is part of.” Cinematographer Dan Laustsen added: “When we designed and shot, we were always thinking color and black and white. The classic lighting I have used is an homage to all the incredible masters of cinematography who have inspired me.

Based on a novel by William Lindsay Gresham (which was previously turned into a movie in 1947), Nightmare Alley is set in “a world of carnival hustlers and con men, telling the story of a mentalist who teams with a psychologist in order to swindle the rich.” Here’s the official synopsis: When charismatic but down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle endears himself to clairvoyant Zeena and her has-been mentalist husband Pete at a traveling carnival, he crafts a golden ticket to success, using this newly acquired knowledge to grift the wealthy elite of 1940s New York society. With the virtuous Molly loyally by his side, Stanton plots to con a dangerous tycoon with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist who might be his most formidable opponent yet.

The film stars Bradley Cooper as Stanton Carlisle, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Toni Collette as Zeena, David Strathairn as Pete, Rooney Mara as Molly, and Richard Jenkins as the “dangerous tycoon”. Also in the cast are Willem Dafoe, Mary Steenburgen, Ron Perlman, Holt McCallany, Clifton Collins Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, Jim Beaver, and David Hewlett.

Copies of Gresham’s novel Nightmare Alley can be purchased at THIS LINK. Del Toro wrote the adaptation with Kim Morgan. Our own JimmyO gave del Toro’s film a 9/10 review you can read HERE.
