The circle of life must make room for a new species as an adorable blue, goblin-like alien pays tribute to Disney’s The Lion King for the new Lilo & Stitch teaser trailer. While we’re still months away from Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, the mouse-eared studio is happy to bait fans with brief glimpses at the upcoming adaptation’s main character. Today’s Lilo & Stitch teaser finds Stitch being held high in the air at the beach, a nod to the iconic scene from The Lion King when Rafiki presents a baby Simba to animals of the Pride Lands. Looking closely, you can see Stitch’s orange swimmies, a device that keeps inexperienced swimmers from drowning. I suspect Stitch is adept at the doggie paddle, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo in reimagining the studio’s 2002 animated classic. Other players include Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, Sydney Agudong, and Chris Sanders as the voice of Stitch. The plot focuses on a young, parentless girl who adopts a “dog” from the local pound, utterly unaware that it’s supposedly a dangerous scientific experiment that’s taken refuge on Earth and is now hiding from its creator and those who see it as a menace.

Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On) directs Lilo & Stitch from a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, based on a previous draft by Mike Van Wess. Disney announced the studio’s live-action Lilo & Stitch in February 2018, but footage of Stitch bursting through the film’s logo debuted at 2024’s D23 conference. Lilo & Stitch joins the studio’s long list of live-action remakes after adaptations like Beauty and the BeastThe Lion KingAladdinDumboMulan, and The Little Mermaid. Disney won’t stop there, of course. Live-action versions of BambiPeter Pan, Tangled, and Moana are also in the works, with Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui for Moana.

The timing for Disney’s new Lilo & Stitch teaser trailer could not be more timely as the Barry Jenkins-directed Lion King prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, arrives in theaters on December 20, 2024. Pacific Drive

Created by Cassandra Dracott from Ironwood Studios, the retropunk-style driving and survival game Pacific Drive was released back in February and has since been nominated for Best Debut Indie Game at the 2024 Game Awards and won Best Gameplay at the 2024 BIG Festival, where it was also nominated for Best Game. Now, Variety reports that Atomic Monster, the production company headed up by genre regular James Wan (Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring, etc.) has acquired the rights to develop the game into a TV series.

Set to an experimental electronic music soundtrack, the Pacific Drive video game challenges players to escape a surreal and abandoned exclusion zone with their car as their only companion in the dark and chilling world. Navigate a surreal reimagining of the Pacific Northwest, and face supernatural dangers as you venture into the Olympic Exclusion Zone. Structured as a “roguelite”, each excursion into the wilderness brings unique and strange challenges as you restore and upgrade your car from an abandoned garage that acts as your home base. Gather precious resources and investigate what’s been left behind in the Zone; unravel a long-forgotten mystery while learning exactly what it takes to survive in this unpredictable, hostile environment. The game is available to play on PC and PlayStation 5.

Players have to deal with strange anomalies and irradiated areas while driving around. The Wikipedia page notes that one anomaly is called a “Remnant” and inhabits inanimate objects, forming a psychic link with the host, gradually causing the host to become obsessed with the object to the point of insanity. The game boasts an original score by Wilbert Roget II and features more than 15 licensed songs.

Wan will be executive producing the TV series adaptation with Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Rob Hackett, as well as Jeff Ludwig of The Menagerie Productions. Variety notes that the potential series is not yet attached to any specific network or streaming platform.

Pacific Drive

The post James Wan turning video game Pacific Drive into a TV series appeared first on JoBlo.

Video game adaptations have had quite a resurgence in recent years. From Fallout to The Last Of Us, it’s incredible how much times seem to have changed (you know, if you ignore Borderlands). And with that shift comes a change in how they’re presented. No longer is the medium confined to only feature-length or season-arching stories. The anthology format allows for the stories to be told in various ways, simply providing a glimpse at these worlds. A tease for something bigger. And that’s precisely what Prime’s Secret Level accomplishes, providing a look at popular videogames like Megaman, Pacman, Warhammer, and even various Playstation greats.

I spoke to both producer Tim Miller and creative director Dave Wilson about all things Secret Level. Given the resurgence in video game adaptations, you can imagine that many companies would be a bit trepidatious about letting their IP join an anthology series. After all, there are many full-length adaptations in various stages of pre-production. Miller and Wilson get into how they were able to get permission from the various developers, while not stepping on the toes of any in-development projects. And as hard as it is for a parent to pick their favorite child, I had to find out which episode of the 15 shorts was their favorite. Their answers may surprise you. Check it all out in the video above!

Secret Level plot:

Secret Level is a new adult-animated anthology series featuring original stories set within the worlds of some of the world’s most beloved video games. From the creative minds behind LOVE, DEATH + ROBOTS, each of the 15 episodes is a celebration of games and gamers.

SECRET LEVEL IS STREAMING EXCLUSIVELY ON PRIME VIDEO ON DECEMBER 10TH, 2024.

Violent Night

Two years ago, Universal Pictures teamed with producers David Leitch and Kelly McCormick of 87North Productions and director Tommy Wirkola to bring us the highly entertaining, R-rated holiday thriller Violent Night (read our 8/10 review at THIS LINK)… and now, star David Harbour is celebrating the holidays with the script for Violent Night 2 in hand!

Harbour, who played Santa Claus in Violent Night, shared a picture on social media that showed him hanging out with Santa… and, yes, holding the Violent Night 2 script.

Scripted by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller (Sonic the Hedgehog), Violent Night showed what happens when a team of elite mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage. But the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint. It’s a whole lot of fun, so if you like your action movies with a good dose of humor and some over-the-top violence, it’s highly recommended that you check this one out, if you haven’t already. Especially if you have an appreciation for the Christmas-set action classics Die Hard and Die Hard 2, both of which had a clear influence on this movie. One of the standout sequences gives a nod to Home Alone as well.

Harbour, who described Violent Night as “a hardcore Christmas action movie,” was joined in the cast by John Leguizamo (Land of the Dead), Beverly D’Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation), Alexis Louder (Copshop), Cam Gigandet (Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse), André Eriksen (Norsemen), Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), and newcomer Alex Haskell.

There’s no word on when Violent Night 2 might begin filming, but the fact that Harbour is showing us that the script is in his possession is a positive step forward. There has been a lot of talk about Mrs. Claus needing to be brought into the action for the sequel, with Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace being mentioned as contenders for the role, but we don’t know if that’s going to happen.

carry on

Carry-On debuts on Netflix to be the resident alternative to cheery Christmas movies and rom-coms as Taron Edgerton plays a TSA worker in a high-stakes situation. Our Tyler Nichols thought it was a pretty ok for a Die Hard clone when he said in his review, “Ultimately, Carry On feels like more of a whimper than a bang. For everything that works, there are a multitude of things that don’t. Even so, I still have a soft spot for these kinds of films and Jason Bateman’s performance is absolutely electric. If you don’t let the logic of it all ruin it for you, then this is an interesting thrill ride. But I have a very hard time recommending it as it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table.”

However, this past week, Carry-On has taken viewers for a ride as the thriller debuted with the biggest number of the year at 42 million views with 84 million hours watched globally. Coming in at number 2 is the animated film That Christmas, which garnered 17 million views with over 27 million hours watched. Then, the biblical drama Mary, which stars Anthony Hopkins, would follow in the number 3 spot with 13.2 million views and 24.7 hours watched. Benedict Cumberbatch’s turn as the mean one in Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch placed in fourth with 13.2 million views and accumulated 18.9 million hours watched. Jim Carrey’s live-action incarnation of the Christmas classic also cracked the list, but would only place 9th this week. The fifth-placed movie in the Top 5 is Blake Lively’s drama It Ends With Us, which ended up with 10.9 million views and 23.9 million hours watched.

As self-contained as Carry-On seems, Taron Edgerton sees a potential for a sequel if one is given the greenlight. He said in an interview with JoBlo, “I think the thing about Carry On is…he’s a guy who is not really sure of who he is and he’s thrust into these sort of extraordinary circumstances and he rises to the occasion. But he’s a bit lost, I think, in this movie and you kind of see him just struggling to keep up for most of the film. And at the end of the film, you see a guy who’s a bit more sure of himself. So I think if we were ever lucky enough to get a second bite of the apple, I’d probably want to see him be a little more…fully realized, a little bit more certain of himself.”
