Camila Morrone Adam DiMarco

Back in July, Netflix announced that they had given the greenlight to a horror series called Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, which is being executive produced by the Duffer Brothers, the creators of Stranger Things. Now, Deadline reports that Camila Morrone of Daisy Jones & The Six and Adam DiMarco of The White Lotus have officially signed on to star in the series, with Weronika Tofilska (Baby Reindeer) on board to direct four episodes.

Created by Haley Z. Boston, who previously worked for Netflix as a writer on Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and Brand New Cherry Flavor (and for Prime Video as a writer on Hunters), Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials. That’s not a spoiler – just read the title… It will be interesting to find out just what sort of horrific events are going to end up disrupting this wedding. Morrone and DiMarco will be playing the bride and groom.

The Duffer brothers (Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer) serve as executive producers alongside Hilary Leavitt through their Upside Down Pictures, which has an overall deal with Netflix. Andrea Sperling is another executive producer. Boston will also serve as an executive producer, and is the showrunner. As Deadline notes, it’s quite an impressive accomplishment for Boston to be “showrunner of her own passion-project series at the age of 29.”

The Duffers provided the following statement: “We were knocked flat when we first read Haley’s script. She is a major new talent with a singular voice — her writing is twisted, terrifying, funny, and just… very Haley. We feel so lucky to be producing her first show, and we can’t wait to share her vision with the rest of the world.

Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s VP, Scripted Series (US & Canada) added: “We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with dream partners Matt, Ross and Hilary to bring this unexpected and spine-tingling story to life through Haley’s uniquely riveting vision.

Patrick Wilson Vera Farmiga

The Conjuring film franchise is set to come to an end with the fourth installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, which Warner Bros. has scheduled for a theatrical release on September 5, 2025 release. A couple months ago, producer James Wan took to social media to share a picture of the chairs meant for franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga on the set of the film, writing, “Always good to see and hang out with old friends. Gonna miss everyone. End of an era.“ Production on the sequel has since wrapped, with Farmiga also posting on Instagram about the end of the time she and Wilson have spent playing the paranormal investigators / married couple Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Sharing a picture of their characters’ wedding picture, Farmiga wrote, “Roundabout 5000 days ago, this guy and I signed a WB contract and said ‘I do’ to embodying Ed and Lorraine Warren. Today, he wraps. I have another 12 hours of laughter and insanity with him and then abruptly, he will walk off set, peel off sweat soaked demonologist garb, shave off his side burns, flash that dazzling smile and bid our fake marriage adieu. Yeah… I got them feels today. It was a match made in heaven, PWilz. A hell of an era. Here’s to 12 years.

Farmiga continued working on The Conjuring: The Last Rites for about a week after Wilson left the set, posting a selfie the day before she wrapped:

We don’t have any plot info on The Conjuring: Last Rites at this time, all we know that the story takes place in the United States in the 1980s. Michael Chaves, who previously directed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do ItThe Nun II, and the Conjuring Universe-adjacent The Curse of La Llorona, is at the helm of The Conjuring: Last Rites, working from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who also wrote The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

Franchise producers James Wan and Peter Safran are producing the film, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott serving as executive producers alongside Hans Ritter.

Wilson and Farmiga have been joined in the cast by Ben Hardy (Love at First Sight) and Mia Tomlinson (The Lost Pirate Kingdom). Details on the characters they’re playing have not been revealed.

A couple of months ago, industry scooper Daniel Richtman got his hands on these character descriptions from a casting call:

jeremy renner, mayor of kingstown

Jeremy Renner successfully rallied back from devastating injuries to appear in season 3 of his popular Paramount+ show, Mayor of Kingstown. Our own Alex Maidy found the third season to be rather average in his review where he says, “As great as Jeremy Renner is capable of being, he is not given the material to elevate Mike McLuskey beyond a two-dimensional creation. While the actors are all good, they are limited by a weak story and not enough to warrant investing in. Mayor of Kingstown continues to be a bleak and depressing mirror version of Yellowstone without the soapy entertainment value that we all tune in for. Instead, this is a series that you could miss an entire batch of episodes and still tune in without missing a beat.”

However, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Mike McLusky will once again “take office” after Paramount+ renews the show for a fourth season. The series comes from co-creators Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon. And it is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions for Paramount+. Mayor of Kingstown has been ranked as the number one series on the platform during its season three run. Per THR, Kingstown follows the powerful family in a fictional Michigan town: Kingstown, Michigan, a city whose main industry is nine penitentiaries. Renner stars as Mike McLusky, the town’s unofficial ‘mayor” and fixer.’”

Co-creator Dillon, who also stars in the show as Detective Ian Ferguson, would glow about his star to THR after his triumphant return while hoping for a fourth season, “What that guy has done behind the camera and in front of the camera is nothing short of spectacular in every regard. A big driving force [of doing this show] is to see the satisfaction with Jeremy Renner. He made a giant come back and to see him be artistically satisfied. The scripts are great, the characters great. And that’s what we want to do. We don’t want to leave any stone unturned.”

Dillon also explained the meaning of the end of season 3 where a drug war erupts and causes the accidental death of a character, “It actually follows any pattern of authentic criminality, because what that [ending] does, what it always does, is leaves a vacuum. And it will be filled, it’s human nature.”
