A specific release date has not yet been announced for the film, but The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the news that Greenwich Entertainment has picked up the North American distribution rights to the psychological drama/ghost story Went Up the Hill, which stars Dacre Montgomery of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things and Vicky Krieps of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread and M. Night Shyamalan’s Old. Went Up the Hill will receive a theatrical release sometime next summer.
Written and directed by Samuel Van Grinsven, who previously made the 2019 thriller Sequin in a Blue Room, Went Up the Hill sees Montgomery taking on the role of Jack, a man abandoned as a child who travels to remote New Zealand to attend the funeral of his estranged mother Elizabeth. There he meets her widow, Jill (Krieps), whose relationship with his mother was less than peaceful. Over a series of nights, the ghost of Elizabeth returns to possess Jack and Jill in turn, using each of their bodies to speak to the other. Caught in a life-threatening nocturnal dance, Jack and Jill must find a way to relinquish Elizabeth’s hold before she pushes them to the edge.
Went Up the Hill premiered at the Toronto Film Festival a few months ago. The Hollywood Reporter article notes that their reviewer Caryn James said the “elliptical, poetic, technically stunning film is a ghost story that rarely does more than nod at horror tropes. The film pointedly uses that ghost as a means of exploring grief, abandonment and the emotional chaos the dead woman caused even while she was still alive.“
The writer/director provided the following statement: “Following our beautiful launch in Toronto, it’s a thrill that Greenwich will now bring Went Up The Hill to cinemas. I cannot wait for U.S. audiences to see both Vicky and Dacre’s haunting performances in these truly unique roles.“
Went Up the Hill was produced by Vicky Pope, Samantha Jennings, and Kristina Ceyton. The production companies were POP Film and Causeway Films.

It’s never too early in the season for a Christmas miracle! After years of watching influential sitcoms get a spit shine, Malcolm in the Middle is getting a revival as the beloved comedy approaches its 25th anniversary! Before running into the streets without your winter coat to celebrate, be aware that the episode order is limited to four new episodes, all set to air on Disney+. Do you want more good news? The family sitcom’s original cast members, Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek, return to reprise their iconic roles as Malcolm, Hal, and Lois, respectively.
Linwood Boomer, the creator of Malcolm in the Middle, will join Muniz, Cranston, and Kaczmarekfor the revival. Producing director Ken Kwapis will helm all four episodes. Malcolm in the Middle ran for seven seasons from 2000 to 2006 and focused on a gifted young teen, Malcolm, trying to survive life with his dimwitted, dysfunctional family. Boomer expects other original cast members to return for the revival.
What’s the Malcolm in the Middle revival about? According to the show’s official logline, the new episodes find Malcolm, Hal, and Lois leading the limited series. Malcolm and his daughter are pulled into family-related chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) insist on their genius son attending their 40th wedding anniversary. Casting for Malcolm’s daughter and wife is ongoing.
Other original cast members who could appear in the revival are Christopher Kennedy Masterson and Justin Berfield, who played Hal and Lois’ eldest sons Francis and Reese, respectively. Meanwhile, it’s doubtful Erik Per Sullivan, who played Malcom’s younger brother, Dewey, could return. He quit acting in 2010 and has yet to try to join the cast for any reunions. Instead, he’s pursuing graduate work in Victorian literature, as you do.
Muniz and Cranston have remained enthusiastic about launching a Malcolm in the Middle revival for several years. While Muniz has trouble remembering a portion of his time working on the show, Cranston says playing Hal is one of his favorite career memories, and he’s eager to reunite with his TV family for more laughs and family drama.

Almost forty years ago, writer/director Dan O’Bannon delivered one of the most highly entertaining zombie movies of all time with The Return of the Living Dead (watch it HERE)… and in the process, spawned a franchise. There was the goofy comedy of The Return of the Living Dead Part II, the “Romeo and Juliet with zombies” love story Return of the Living Dead ///, and a couple sequels nobody paid much attention to, Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis and Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave. The franchise has been dormant for nineteen years – but last year, it was announced that Muck and Kill Her Goats director Steve Wolsh, who also happens to be the CEO of the company Living Dead Media, was developing a reboot of The Return of the Living Dead. Yesterday, it was announced that a teaser trailer for the reboot would be dropping online today… and now that teaser, which promises the new Return of the Living Dead will reach theatres in time for Christmas 2025, can be seen in the embed above!
Information found on the Living Dead Media website reveals: Our reboot of Return of the Living Dead will expand the existing world created by the original 5 films, while staying true to the R-rated, sci-fi, horror, dark comedy roots adored by fans of the cult classic around the world for the last 35 years. We are excited to resurrect this storied franchise for current fans and new generations of zombie fans. Here’s the set up: Taking place 18 months after the events at the UNEEDA Warehouse in Louisville, KY, a new Trioxin 2-4-5 leak puts a small Pennsylvania town on the brink of a zombie outbreak during Christmas, 1985. If surviving a zombie outbreak isn’t hard enough, the characters and the Army will have to also contend with blizzard conditions. This Christmas, it’s Tarman who will be coming to town. Since it picks up after the events of the original film, you could call this a sequel rather than a reboot.
The new Return of the Living Dead will be released by WithAnO Productions, only in theatres. The filmmakers promise a bloody, stunning new chapter, made with no CGI and all practical FX. Special effects artist Tony Gardner, best known these days for his work on the Chucky franchise, is working on the reboot – a return to the franchise, as he created the half-corpse zombie for the original film. Gardner created the new version of the iconic zombie Tarman, featured in the teaser trailer. Storyboard artist Pete Von Sholly, who worked on Return of the Living Dead Part II and III, created the storyboards for the teaser.

There’s a new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it HERE) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one HERE) coming our way from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) – and Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played heroine Julie James in the first two films, has just confirmed that she will be returning for this sequel! We’ve known that Hewitt was in negotiations to return for a long time, but today she took to social media to announce that the deal has been made and Julie James is back.
Robinson is directing the film from a screenplay by Leah McKendrick (M.F.A.), which has received some rewrites from Robinson and journalist Sam Lansky. McKendrick told Collider a while back that the new sequel will reckon with “some big ideas about hero and villain, right and wrong, how your skeletons come back to haunt you. And in the age of the internet and the age where fame is such a revered concept, the creation of TikTok and social media, who is Julie James in a world where there are no secrets anymore?“ McKendrick also said that when she went in to pitch her take to Sony, the most important things they wanted to hear about were “the accident, the event that kicks it off, and who the killer is.“
The new I Know What You Did Last Summer stars Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Sarah Pidgeon (Tiny Beautiful Things), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid), Billy Campbell (The Rocketeer), Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story), Austin Nichols (The Day After Tomorrow), and model / musician Gabbriette, who will be making her feature film acting debut. Robinson’s Do Revenge star Camila Mendes (Riverdale) was attached at one time, but had to drop out due to scheduling issues. It appears that she has been replaced by Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies). I Know What You Did Last Summer and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer cast member Freddie Prinze Jr. recently signed on to reprise the role of Ray Bronson.
Are you glad to hear that Jennifer Love Hewitt is officially on board to reprise the role of Julie James in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel? Let us know by leaving a comment below. The film is set to reach theatres on July 18, 2025.
After several delays, J.C. Chandor’s Kraven the Hunter has finally hit theaters. So far, the reviews (including our own) have been dismal, and on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has only mustered a 14% fresh rating (give your opinion on the film right here). As such, the box office results for the film have been muted (as expected), with Variety reporting the film only grossed $2 million in its Thursday night previews. A gross like that suggests the movie is only on track for a $13 million (we predicted $15 million) opening unless audiences rally over the weekend.
In fact, the box office outlook for Kraven the Hunter has gotten so bad that many think it will have a hard time topping Madame Web’s $15.3 million gross. However, that film benefitted from opening over President’s Day weekend, while Kraven doesn’t have a holiday to fall back on. While it’s possible the movie might carve out decent grosses over the Christmas holiday, the long-term box office outlook for the film is poor. It’s all but certain to be beaten by both Moana 2 and Wicked for this weekend’s box office throne.
However, the silver lining for Kraven the Hunter is that it’s expected to easily outgross the weekend’s other new opener, the animated Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which isn’t expected to make much over $7 million (although our critic loved it). It might wind up being beaten by the red-hot re-release of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, which made so much money last weekend it’s expanding to more venues.
Are you planning on seeing anything this weekend? Let us know in the comments!
This holiday season, a new chapter of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings franchise comes to theaters for an epic animated feature that tells the history of Helm’s Deep. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, directed by legendary anime filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama (Eden of the East, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. When a scorned warrior named Wulf vows revenge for his fallen father, he ignites a war for the ages. The War of the Rohirrim tells of how an unforgiving war transformed an ancient stronghold of the Hornsburg into Helm’s Deep.
To learn more about Hèra’s journey and how Helm’s Deep got its name, we sat down with the film’s director, Kenji Kamiyama, the architect of The Lord of the Rings cinematic universe, Phillipa Boyens, and voice actors Gaia Wise and Laurence Ubond Williams. During our time together, we explore the film’s origin story, narrative influences, and Kenji Kamiyama’s proudest moment. We also look at Phillipa Boyens’ “murder board,” where she plots the cinematic installments of Tolkien’s time-honored universe. Gaia Wise and Laurence Ubong Williams join the conversation to discuss becoming a part of the legendary franchise, playing bold, new characters, and their chances of getting matching Lord of the Rings tattoos.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim opens in theaters today, December 13, 2024. It will bring audiences back to Middle-earth for more hellish battles, scorned enemies, and spilled blood. Kenji Kamiyama’s film aims to please fans while also telling an important story in the franchise’s history, giving us new characters to cherish, iconic territories to explore, and reasons to love venturing into the unknown all over again.
