Friday Night Lights is getting the reboot treatment, and Deadline reports that Peacock has scooped up the project after a competitive bidding war with Netflix.
This new iteration will “be set following a devastating hurricane, when a rag tag high school football team and their damaged, interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship and become a beacon of light for their town.“
The franchise is based on the non-fiction novel Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team and a Dream by H.G. Bissinger. Peter Berg directed a feature film based on the novel in 2004, which starred Billy Bob Thornton, Lucas Black, Derek Luke, Garrett Hedlund, Jay Hernandez, and more. Two years later, Berg developed the acclaimed TV series of the same name. Revolving around a high school football team in the fictional town of Dillion, the series was led by Kyle Chandler as Coach Eric Taylor and Connie Britton as his wife, Tami Taylor. The ensemble cast included many up-and-coming actors who have since gone on to bigger things, including Jesse Plemons, Taylor Kitsch, Michael B. Jordan, Adrianne Palicki, Jurnee Smollett, Zach Gilford, and more.
Peter Berg will serve as an executive producer on the Friday Night Lights reboot, alongside original showrunner Jason Katims and producer Brian Grazer.
If you’re hoping Coach Taylor might pop up in the reboot, I wouldn’t hold your breath. He’s slated to star in HBO’s upcoming Green Lantern series, Lanterns. He will be playing Hal Jordan alongside Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge), who will play John Stewart. The series is said to have a True Detective vibe as it “follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.“
Kelly MacDonald (Boardwalk Empire) will also star as Sheriff Kerry, a “no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town.” Garret Dillahunt has also joined the series in a recurring role. He will play William Macon, a modern cowboy who is described as “a self-righteous, conspiracy-minded man who masks his ruthless ambition behind a charming and calculated facade.” Poorna Jagannathan (The Night Of) will also appear as Zoe.
Sony’s Marvel Comics adaptation Kraven the Hunter is set to reach theatres on December 13th. This movie is, along with Morbius, Madame Web, and the Venom trilogy, part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (which was formerly known as the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters), which consists of Marvel adaptations that doesn’t have the creative team of Marvel Studios behind them, so therefore they’re not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony is able to make these films because they own the movie rights to all characters that were originally introduced in the pages of Spider-Man comics. The financial success of the Venom movies aside (and that trilogy has had diminishing returns), these movies haven’t tended to go over well with movie-goers, something which Kraven director J. C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) has had to address, asking that people give his movie the chance to wash away the bad taste left by Morbius and Madame Web… But now, the first reactions to the film are dropping online, and they’re largely negative. It doesn’t sound like this is a huge step up from the other films in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
Directed by Chandor from a screenplay by Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, Kraven the Hunter is the action-packed, R-rated, standalone story of how one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless gangster father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the title character and is joined in the cast by Ariana DeBose as voodoo priestess Calypso Ezili, Fred Hechinger as Kraven’s estranged brother and master of disguise Dmitri Smerdyakov / Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as Russian mercenary and human-rhino hybrid Aleksei Sytsevich / Rhino, Christopher Abbott as a mercenary and assassin known as the Foreigner, and Russell Crowe as Kraven’s estranged father, the ruthless crime lord Nikolai Kravinoff.
Our review will be dropping here on JoBlo.com at 9am (Eastern) tomorrow morning. In the meantime, here are some of the first reactions, which are mostly negative, with a few positive along the way:

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony is expanding its reach by coming to Hulu in addition to the celebration’s ABC broadcast. Hollywood’s most elaborate party will air live on ABC and stream on Hulu for the first time in the show’s history. Hulu has 52 million subscribers, making the upcoming night of awards and fancy outfits available to an untapped audience through the popular streaming platform.
ABC unveiled new art for the monumental event on Wednesday. The poster features a polished Oscar statue waiting for the big night. The little but surprisingly heavy bald man is reflected in segmented mirror images.
“We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang said after the announcement. “He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies and his live TV expertise. His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best — honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.”
According to GoldDerby, the ten films likely to feature in the event’s Best Picture category include Anora, The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, Dune: Part Two, Sing Sing, A Real Pain, Nickel Boys, and September 5. While I’m interested in the overall show, my heart lies in the Best Animated Feature category. GoldDerby says the five films likely to get nominated at the 97th Academy Awards are Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, Flow, Memoir of a Snail, Inside Out 2, and The Wild Robot. This year’s Best Animated Feature category is wildly unpredictable, with all five films being stand-outs in animation. I’m pulling for The Wild Robot, but Flow is also a film worthy of the crown. My full review of Flow should be out shortly, as I’m in the middle of writing it now.
Will you watch the 2025 Academy Awards ceremony on ABC or Hulu? What film do you think should win Best Picture? Let us know in the comments section below.
By this point, we all know that Robin Williams was one of the most generous guys in Hollywood, with countless stories from his co-stars and celebrity friends about an unending stream of support that Williams leant in times of trouble. But now his son, Zak, is remembering his own personal stories of his father’s good nature that he hopes he can carry on.
Speaking with People, Zak Williams said his father Robin was never shy about helping strangers, recalling, “When I was a little kid and we’d be walking in San Francisco where I grew up, he would stop, talk to someone on the street — a homeless person — say, ‘Hey boss, what can I do for you?’ And we’d see him get meals, food, money…It was deeply important to him to help improve the human condition, and that extends beyond helping people laugh and learn about themselves.”
Robin Williams was in such a position to give back for decades, co-founding Comic Relief (which raised money for the homeless), contributing to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, helping longtime friend Christopher Reeve pay for medical bills after his 1995 accident, and more. This is all part of the generosity that helped make Robin Williams so loveable, even to people that never got a chance to meet him.
As Zak Williams continued on how he and his family will help carry on Robin’s legacy, “He cared deeply about people in need, and I think for me, he opened my eyes to really what kindness was all about…We see it as a natural extension of what he would want, which is helping bring healing and helping develop resilience for folks, especially young people. He loved kids. And as a family, we feel it’s a natural way to honor his legacy.”
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since Robin Williams’ death. But we’ll always watch his movies, TV appearances and stand-up specials. In fact, I was just rewatching Mrs. Doubtfire the other night, howling at both the outrageousness and nuances that Williams brought to the movie.

Cor blimey! Two of my favorite things in entertainment, Pokémon and Aardman, are joining forces for a mysterious project due in 2027! According to The Pokémon Company’s official press release, the collaboration will see Aardman bringing their unique storytelling style to the Pokémon universe in brand-new adventures. Someone slap me! I’m freaking out!
“This is a dream partnership for Pokémon. Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity. What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat,” said Taito Okiura, VP of Marketing and Media at The Pokémon Company International.
Sharing in Taito’s excitement, Sean Clarke, Managing Director of Aardman, added, “It’s a huge honor to be working with The Pokémon Company International — we feel sincerely privileged to be trusted with bringing their characters and world to life in a brand-new way. Bringing together Pokémon, the world’s biggest entertainment brand, together with our love of craft, character and comedic storytelling feels incredibly exciting. Aardman and TPCi share an emphasis on heritage and attention to detail as well as putting our fans and audiences at the heart of what we do, which we know will steer us right as we together create charming, original and new stories for audiences around the world.”
Does anyone want to guess what this “special project” from The Pokémon Company and Aardman is? Could it be a new stop-motion animated series? A unique-looking video game like Clay Fighter but for Pokémon? My head is spinning. I hope it’s exciting and not too much smoke for a Nintendo Alarmo-level product. Don’t get me wrong, Alarmo is cool, but I will need more with these two powerhouses bringing their best and brightest to the floor.
Aardman’s latest feature, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, will be released on January 3, 2025. The film explores what happens when Gromit becomes concerned that Wallace is becoming overly dependent on his inventions. This notion proves justified when Wallace invents Norbot, a “smart gnome” that seems to develop a mind of its own. Directed by Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham, Vengeance Most Fowl is a delightful, stop-motion animated comedy about the dangers of technology, dastardly penguins, and the power of friendship.

2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of director Mary Harron’s Bret Easton Ellis adaptationAmerican Psycho (watch it HERE), which has come to be known as a cult classic – and as an anniversary gift, we’re getting an American Psycho remake from director Luca Guadagnino, whose credits include Challengers, Call Me By Your Name, Bones and All, Queer, and the Suspiria remake. The first film was carried by the incredible performance delivered by lead actor Christian Bale… and now we know who will be following in Bale’s footsteps. Variety reports that the character of Patrick Bateman in Guadagnino’s film will be played by Austin Butler, who’s best known for his Oscar-nominated performance in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis.
Harron’s American Psycho had the following synopsis: Patrick Bateman is a young, handsome, Harvard educated Wall Street success, seemingly perfect with his stunning fiancé and entourage of high-powered friends. But his circle of friends doesn’t know the other Patrick Bateman, the one who lusts for more than status and material things. With a detective hot on his trail and temptation everywhere, Patrick Bateman can’t fight his terrible urges that take him on the pursuit of women, greed and the ultimate crime – murder! Based on the controversial book by Bret Easton Ellis, American Psycho is a sexy thriller that sets forth a vision that is both terrifying and chilling. Harron wrote the screenplay with Guinevere Turner.
Scott Z. Burns is writing the screenplay for the new film. Burns has previously written The Bourne Ultimatum, The Informant!, Contagion, and Side Effects, among other things.
The Variety article notes that this will not be a direct remake of the 2000 film, but rather a new adaptation of Ellis’ novel. And “while Butler is attached to play the lead role in the movie, Guadagnino might have have interpreted the Patrick Bateman character in a much different way than its previous incarnation.” Variety had heard rumors that Jacob Elordi (Saltburn) was in the running to play Patrick Bateman, but the job has gone to Butler. Like Butler, Elordi has played Elvis Presley (with Elordi playing the rock icon in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla.) Austin Butler has also been seen in Masters of the Air, Dune: Part Two, The Bikeriders, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Dead Don’t Die, Dude, Yoga Hosers, The Intruders, The Shannara Chronicles, Arrow, and The Carrie Diaries.
